MASSES FOR THE WEEK

THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

My Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that God has one nature, yet at the same time is three distinct persons. The mystery of the Trin-ity is central to our faith, but it is beyond our human capacity to fully grasp. It is only by God’s self-revelation that we can come to know, in some small measure, who God is. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus Christ continu-ally revealed to us God the Father, and reminded us how much the Father loves us. All that Jesus taught and all that he did was in accord with the will of the Father. All were to listen to Jesus on whom God’s fa-vor rested (Mt 3:17). Jesus revealed the Father’s plan for our salvation, and even accepted death on the Cross to fulfill it. It is in knowing Jesus that one can know the father, because the two are one (Jn. 10:30). When it was time for Jesus to return to the Father, he did not leave the disciples alone to continue his work. Just last Sunday we celebrated the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples at Pentecost. Filled with the Holy Spirit, they were able to speak boldly about the good news that Jesus brought to the world and to express their belief in the Resurrection. They were empowered to teach and baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They were able to guide others along the way to salvation, which Jesus had opened for all people. As marvelous as it is to contemplate such a mighty God, who can create the world, command a rock to give water, multiply loaves and fishes, or make tongues of fire appear; the greatest miracle takes place within our own hearts. We have been given a share in the life of the Blessed Trinity through Baptism. We have been claimed by God as his daughters and sons and promised a share in his heavenly Kingdom. The Holy Spirit has entered us and we can never be sepa-rated from God, except by our own choice. The Triune God, the Three in One, is with us right here on earth every day. God’s constant love gives us the hope that, at the end of time, we will be united, totally and per-fectly, with the Trinity in the heavenly Kingdom. Praise be to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.

It’s not too early! Is your child going into the first

grade next year? You can sign them up for Religious Education classes

which begin September 28th. Remember in order to receive First Communion your child must have

two years of instructions. .

If you have a child beginning first grade in public school, it is time to register for Religious Education. Diocesan guidelines require two years of instructions prior to the reception of a

Sacrament. If your child is already in the first grade and missed this year, call the Office of Religious Education to set

up an appointment to discuss the options.

2014 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL

The theme this year is, “When we Give We Share the Light of Faith.”

I want to express my appreciation and gratitude

to everyone who has supported the appeal. Your

sacrifices and prayers have been a wonderful sup-

port and have helped us to reach our goal and go

over. Our goal is $44,615. We have pledged

$46,725 and monies collected to this date amount

to $33,986. This amount is from 157 donors.

GREAT JOB! Please continue to honor your

pledges. If there are some who did not pledge,

please prayerfully consider if you are able to give

at this time. Last years records show that we had

727 donors. It would be a great help to the parish

if we could achieve that goal. Remember all

monies received over goal come back to our

parish 100%.

Thank you again for the many sacrifices you

continue to make to support this appeal. Please

know that you are remembered every day in my

Summer Rectory Hours Starting Monday, June 30th

the rectory office will be opened Monday through

Friday from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Saturday hours will be from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.

Closed: Sundays & Holidays We will resume regular rectory office hours

SUMMER COLLECTIONS If you are going away during the

summer, please consider submitting your summer offering envelopes

before you leave. It is important that those monies go towards the present budget to keep it balanced. As you know we still have payroll, medical

and monthly bills and our fiscal year ends August 31, 2014.

KNIGHTS CORNER

State of the Knights of Columbus Council End of Columbian Year 2013-2014 Dear Brothers and Wonderful St. Francis Family, Our first year in our new home found ourselves lacking new members for our Council. We will do a better job in the coming year to make our parish men aware of the Knights. Who we are; what we do; family support, our four-star insurance program, annuities, scholarships for high school and college, social family events, and the oppor-tunity to be part of our charitable efforts—all of these are at the heart of being a Knight of Columbus. On a high note, we had a spectacular year in support of those in need. Everyone should be proud of the results. The Knights Program of Coats for Kids was a success, as we responded to a great need at Our Lady of Fatima. At the parish of Our Lady of Fatima, Marguerite’s Pantry serves the needs of many. The Knights donated sixty new coats and made a donation of $250 per month. The Council during the season of Lent conducted a food drive for the pantry which resulted in a cash donation of $1,000 and over 500 pounds of food. The Knights of our Council delivered this in time for the pan-try to deliver Easter dinner to many families who would not have had the pleasure of an Easter meal. We are sponsoring a man in formation to the priesthood and are offsetting his expenses with a $500 yearly contribution. Also, we sent a vacation check of $100. We will continue this support until his ordination. We supported our SFA’s need for a new Church boiler by donating $1,000. These are the many ways our Council put “Charity” into action during the Columbian Year of 2013-2014. Regarding community service, we provided security for our Festival for the entire day. Knights were present in the morning, afternoon, and evening hours. Knights of Columbus are present in the life of our Parish. We are ushers, lectors, Eucharistic min-isters, Choir members, counters, trustees, sacristans, and members of the Parish Coun-cil. The summer months are upon us and we hope you will take time to relax, step back from the stress in life, and spend time as a family; the rewards will be wonderful! Please remember: We go on vacation, our Savior never does! See you in September. Think of a Steak and Brew, an old Colon-Higgins Council End of Summer fundraiser. More information will come in early August about this event.
