The work developed by Matteo Cainer Architects has received widespread international recognition and featured among the top 25 up-and-coming practices in the 2010 London Festival of Architecture. Simultaneamente arqui-teto e docente na École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris, Cainer tem estado constantemente envolvido em assinaláveis projetos de curadoria, desde a direção de Kurt w. Forster para a 9.ª Bie-nal de Arquitetura de Veneza à London Architecture Biennale CHANGe em 2006, passando pela criação e direção do ‘Pavillon Speciale’ em 2010, onde arquitetos emergentes e estudantes tiveram a oportunidade de construir um projeto temporário no coração de Paris. em 2013, o arquiteto idealiza um novo evento na capital francesa: ‘Architectural whispers’, uma série de con-versas íntimas entre arquitetos, críticos e designers em torno das tendências atuais da arquitetura. Simulta-neously architect and lecturer at École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris, Cainer has been continuously involved in noteworthy pro-jects in curatorship, ranging from the direction of Kurt W. Forster for the 9th Biennial of Architecture in Venice, to the London Ar-chitecture Biennale CHANGE in 2006, also taking in the creation and supervision of ‘Pavillon Speciale’ in 2010, where emerging ar-chitects and students enjoyed the opportunity to build a tempo-rary project in the heart of Paris. In 2013, the architect mastermin-ded a new event in the French capital: ‘Architectural Whispers’, a series of intimate conversations between architects, critics and designers about current trends in architecture. What book are you thinking about reading next?

‘Once’ by Wim Wenders and also ‘Banksy: You Are an Acceptable Level of Threat’ by Gary Shove.

What’s the most creative time of day for you?

Usually at night when I finally sit down and find the time to sketch after an energising day. Working with background music, I take ideas and synergies that have evolved over the day and I try to integrate them into my work.

What destination haven’t you visited yet and would like to?

Moscow. I have always been fascinated by the evocative past of this city and especially its unique architectural heritage.

What’s your earliest childhood memory?

My early childhood days living in Cairo. At that time, the old city seemed to possess the beauty and the freedom of an ancient Egyptian metropolis.

What’s the most inspiring film you’ve seen?

It is hard to make a choice but certainly two films that I would include at the top of my list are ‘Amadeus’ and ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ by Milos Forman. What’s your favourite hobby?

Painting - it has always been a passion and a hobby that I have nurtured and enjoyed from my youth. What’s your greatest dream? And your greatest fear?

My greatest dream is to be able to search for and achieve the impossible. As far as fear, is the ‘loss of freedom’ to explore and discover new ideas.

Qual o momento mais criativo do dia?

Normalmente à noite, quando finalmente me posso sentar e tenho tempo para fazer esboços após um dia estimulante. Com alguma música de fundo, aproveito ideias e sinergias que evoluíram durante o dia e procuro integrá-las no meu trabalho.

Que destino ainda não visitou e gostaria de visitar?

Moscovo. Sempre me senti fascinado pelo evocativo passado dessa cidade e especialmente pela sua singular herança arquitetónica.

Qual a memória de infância mais antiga?

Lembro-me dos dias do início da minha infância no Cairo. Naquela altura, a cidade velha parecia possuir a beleza e a liberdade de uma antiga metrópole egípcia.

Que filme mais o inspirou até hoje?

É difícil escolher mas, certamente, dois filmes que eu incluiria no topo da minha lista seriam ‘Amadeus’ e ‘Um estranho no Ninho’ de Milos Forman.

Qual o seu hobby favorito?

A pintura – sempre foi uma paixão e um hobby que tenho nutrido e desfrutado desde a minha juventude.

Qual o seu maior sonho? e o maior medo?

o meu maior sonho é ser capaz de procurar e conseguir o impossível. e o meu maior medo seria perder a liberdade de explorar e descobrir ideias novas.
