Good afternoon, What will the budget have provided us with today in terms of education and the other areas that impact on our lives? We have welcomed several new students (and their families) to school this term. There are a few more 5 year olds due to come in before the end of the term too. Our numbers are now over 100 students. Our Kids Triathlon has been postponed until 30 June. All of the organisational factors are the same. Staff have had a full on 11 days back with professional development. All of our First Aid training has been renewed with Sandra at MediTrain, and teachers have also been working through a series of webinars relating to the use of our classroom Smartboards. The Y7 & 8 students are having some First Aid training this term as well. Miss Webb and myself went to the termly Enviroschools Cluster meeting too. This gave us a chance to network with schools in the area. Congratulations to Mrs Donaldson, who graduated yesterday with a Masters of Education. That means that she is now your first point of call for any curly questions :) Correction: Karaka's enviro Inquiry is about water, not growing healthy food. We are all noticing the colder days. Unless it is raining, students will be expected to be outside during their break times, so please ensure that they have adequate clothing, especially on those days when the wind whistles down off that snow covered Ruapehu. Regards, Petra to our school Riley Kelly. School Triathlon Has been postponed until Friday 30 th May down at the Waiouru camp pool. Races start at 10.45am. Full details have been home with all children. Parent help on the day would be appreciated. We also need parent help to cook/sell sausage sizzles. If you can help out in any way please let Kerry know. Winter's coming This is a good time to remind families and let new families know that there are times when we have to close the school due to snow. This is because all of our teachers live out of town so they either cant get here or need to go home before the roads close. If it snows over night and we need to close the school in the morning we will send out a txt, email and put it on our face book page, before 8am so please check these if you are unsure. If we have to close during the day we do the same. Basically if the Ohakune and/or the Taihape roads are closed or going to be closed then school will also be closed. We follow the AA road closure page to help make our decision. If the school has been closed for a snow day and there is still snow around the following day, if you do not receive a txt/email or an update on our face book page then the school will be open. We will only update the following day if we are closed again. On the days the school is open and there is snow around, it is a good idea to make sure children have an extra layer of clothes, extra socks, gloves etc as they often want to go out and play in the snow and they end up wet.
