NL. Een hele zomer vol heerlijke lunchconcerten in het histo-rische hart van Leuven, dat blijft het succesrecept van Zomer van Sint-Pieter. De zestiende editie betovert twee maanden lang met zowel het vertrouwde repertoire als nieuwe ontdek-kingen.

Samen met Opus 3 – tevens inspirator van het Brusselse moe-derfestival Midis-Minimes – zorgt 30CC voor een verfrissend aanbod met absolute toppers uit binnen- en buitenland zoals Lorenzo Gatto, Ning Kam, Lionel Meunier, Les Muffatti, Qua-tuor Danel, Reinoud Van Mechelen en vele anderen.

NL. Skrjabin en Prokofjev zijn twee reuzen van de 20ste-eeuwe Russische muziek. De eerste hielp, aan het begin van die eeuw, het harmonische muziekidioom uit de greep van de tonaliteit te bevrijden. Prokofjev sloeg ook regels in de wind. Het leverde een oeuvre op dat het ritme en een moderne en sobere lyriek vooropstelt.

NL. Bij de première reageerde het publiek sarcastisch en ook het onthaal door de musici zelf was nauwelijks positiever. Tegen die criticasters zei Beethoven: ‘Het is niet voor jullie geschreven, maar voor de toekomstige generaties’. En inderdaad, dit strijkkwartet geldt vandaag als een van de onmiskenbare meesterwerken van het genre.

ENG. At its creation, public reception was sarcastic and that of the musical world no better. To his detractors Beethoven replied: “It is not meant for you, but for future generations”. Indeed, today this quartet is one of the masterpieces of this genre.

NL. We eren twee Belgische componisten. Ze waren leeftijdsgenoten, maar het lot was hen niet even gunstig gezind: wonderkind Lekeu stierf op zijn 24ste, Jongen werd 80 jaar en was academischer. Maar allebei waren ze doordrongen van de Franse esthetiek.

Dertien jaar later zet Schönbergs Kammersymphonie al even radicaal het genre van de symfonie op losse schroeven. Hij vermengt daarin symfonische muziek en kamermuziek.

ENG. Due to its innovative form and style, the Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun (1894) is often considered the beginning of modern music. The Schönberg Chamber Symphony, created 13 years later, upset in an equally radical fashion the symphonic formula by merging symphonic music with chamber music.
