Este número de nuestro Novus Mundus contiene diversa información pero toda ella gira en torno a un tema por demás importante: liderazgo.

Mucho es lo que se ha escrito y se hablado sobre este tema. Diversas teorías y perspectivas sobre liderazgo han surgido desde el inicio de la humanidad. Cierto es que no hay una sola forma de ver el liderazgo y su desarrollo, pero igualmente cierto es que es un elemento de vital importancia en la convivencia humana y muy en particular en el Movimiento Scout.

Es un hecho bien identificado que el Movimiento Scout colabora en el desarrollo del liderazgo en todo aquel que participa activamente en él. Niñas, niños, adolescentes y jóvenes pueden disfrutar de grandes oportunidades de desarrollar su liderazgo y de aprender de otros a través de las actividades. Hoy en día, debido a la pandemia por el COVID-19 el liderazgo se pone a prueba una vez más. Observamos a diario cómo mujeres y hombres toman el liderazgo de desafiantes situaciones para salir delante de ellas. No son pocos los retos que la humanidad ha enfrentado, y seguirá enfrentando, durante esta pandemia. Solamente los verdaderos líderes darán muestras al mundo de su capacidad de resistir las adversidades.

A todas ellas y ellos está dedicado este número de nuestro boletín regional. A ellas y a ellos agradecemos no dejarse vencer e inspirar a otros para tampoco dejar de hacerlo. Nuestro Movimiento Scout, hoy más que siempre, requiere de líderes en cada uno de sus miembros. Seres humanos que puedan liderar su propia vida, encontrando sentido a ella, para entonces poder guiar a otros.

This latest issue of our Novus Mundus contains a variety of information, but all of it revolves around an extremely important topic: leadership.

Much has been written and talked about on this subject. Various theories and perspectives on leadership have emerged since the beginning of humanity. It is true that there is no single way of seeing leadership and its development, but it also true that it is an element of vital importance in human coexistence and very particularly in Scouting.

It is a well-identified fact that Scouting collaborates in the development of leadership in all those who actively participate in it. Children, adolescents and young people can enjoy great opportunities to develop their leadership and learn from others through activities. Today, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leadership is being tested once again. We observe on a daily basis how women and men take lead in challenging situations to come out in front of them. There are many challenges that humanity has faced, and will continue to face, during this pandemic. Only true leaders will show the world their ability to withstand adversity.

This issue of our regional newsletter is dedicated to all of them. We are grateful to all the young leaders, that chose not to be defeated and to inspire others, to not stop doing activities like them. Our Scout Movement, today more than ever, requires leaders in each of its members. Human beings who can lead their own life, finding meaning in it, to then be able to guide others.

El ILT (Interamerican Leadership Training por sus siglas en inglés) se ha consolidado como una oportunidad para que los jovenes de la región obtengan habilidades de liderazgo y herramientas de crecimiento personal para generar un impacto en la sociedad. Sin embargo, en el 2020 no fue posible desarrollar el ILT debido a la pandemia. A pesar de estos tiempos difíciles, los scouts sonreímos ante las dificultades y encontramos en cada reto una oportunidad, con este espíritu nació el Virtual Scout Leadership Training (VSLT). Este evento virtual permitió que muchos jóvenes de la Región Interamericana se unieran para aprender sobre liderazgo, trabajo en equipo, tipos de violencia, gestión del tiempo entre otras habilidades y conocimientos necesarios para un líder. La convocatoria se hizo de manera abierta y eso nos permitió democratizar los conocimientos entre los jóvenes de la Región.

Personalmente, fue una experiencia increíble que nos permitió innovar en cómo enseñar liderazgo utilizando plataformas virtuales. También fue emocionante unir a más de 200 jóvenes en torno al aprendizaje, la cultura y diversidad de nuestra región. Finalmente, esperamos que esta no sea la última versión del VSLT y que las próximas versiones involucren a muchos más las jóvenes.

The ILT (Interamerican Leadership Training) has established itself as an opportunity for youth within the region to obtain leadership skills and personal growth tools to generate an impact on society. However, in 2020 it was not possible to develop the ILT due to the pandemic. Despite these difficult times, we as Scouts smile at difficulties and find an opportunity in every challenge, with this spirit is that the Virtual Scout Leadership Training (VSLT) was born. This virtual event allowed many young people from the Interamerican Region to come together to learn about leadership, teamwork, types of violence, time management, among other skills and knowledge necessary for a leader. The call was made openly and that allowed us to democratize knowledge among young people in the Region.

Personally, it was an incredible experience that allowed us to innovate in how to teach leadership using virtual platforms. It was also exciting to unite more than 200 young people around the learning, culture and diversity of our region. Finally, we hope that this is not the last version of the VSLT and that the next versions will involve many more young women.

Joven venezolana radicada en Chile hace tres años, cuenta su vida en el país, cómo es recibimiento a los extranjeros y su opinión sobre el Movimiento Guía-Scout.Es técnica en Idiomas Modernos y los últimos días de diciembre de 2020 inauguró en Instagram un espacio denominado “Migrante Scout” que pretende alentar a los jóvenes dirigentes y guiadoras del continente con actividades, juegos y conversaciones que aprendió durante su paso como encargada de una Tropa en Venezuela. “Quiero incluir temas y actividades que generen cambios profundos en la sociedad”, afirma Maryfer Satcher Rengifo, pronta a cumplir 25 años. Su llegada como migrante no fue fácil, se demoró 8 días por tierra, desde Caracas a Santiago: “Sólo tenía 21 años y en todos los países que pasé, me puse la pañoleta. Fue una experiencia inolvidable que no repetiría, pero como scout, durante el camino, sentí el cariño de la gente por el Movimiento, por los buenos recuerdos de exintegrantes o de la gente común que, si bien lo asocia a las galletitas o a los nudos, te cuenta experiencias positivas que han marcado su vida”.

Allí desde muy niña aprendió a amar la n a t u r a l e z a , el trabajo en equipo y disfrutar la vida al aire libre. Por lo mismo, una de las diferencias más marcadas que ha visto en ambos países es que en Venezuela se practica un escultismo más tradicional, a veces un poco más cerrado, sobre todo cuando de uniforme se trata: “Allá es impensado usar jeans en vez de pantalones o usar varios turcos (pasapañoletas, cabeza de turco) en la pañoleta”.Semanas después de su llegada a Chile, reconoce que estaba muy impaciente por volver al Movimiento y entró al grupo “Raúl Silva-Henríquez” de Santiago Centro, con quienes

La inseguridad que se vive en Venezuela es insostenible. Esa fue la razón principal de radicarme en otro país. Vivía en un barrio bastante acomodado y un día vi morir a un vecino. Al mismo tiempo trabajaba en el sector hotelero donde se deben hacer turnos y el regreso a casa por las noches cada vez se hacía más peligroso. En ese minuto empecé a ahorrar y decidí irme.

Recuerda que el próximo sábado 23 de enero partirá un ciclo con amigos de distintos países. Reflexionará sobre la diáspora, técnicas, historia y lo que los seguidores de la cuenta comiencen a proponer. El primero será el colombiano Daniel Tobón, con quien hablarán sobre el rápido cambio de los grupos scouts a lo digital durante la pandemia. ¿Ha resultado? ¿Cómo podemos mejorar?, serán algunas de las interrogantes para el público.

Finalmente, sus desafíos para 2021 son desarrollar su plataforma “Migrante Scout” para scouts y guías de todo el mundo y si la pandemia lo permite ingresar a un grupo en algún sector de la Región Metropolitana. Dice estar consciente que deberá aprender mucho en los cursos de formación. En Venezuela llegó hasta el Intermedio y aquí quiere ser Insignia de Madera que sirva para hacer un

La compasión y la misericordia con virtudes humanas que nos permiten conectar unos con otros. Desde muy pequeña ese ha sido mi reto, conectar con cada uno de mis compañeros, y es que muchas veces me ciega el egoísmo. En el año 2016 tuve la oportunidad de acudir al segundo curso de Dialogo por la Paz, en el centro internacional de diálogo, KAICIID, Austria.

Y esa experiencia me transformó mi vida, el diálogo me permitió sentirme vulnerable y segura al mismo tiempo. Y es un espacio para la transformación personal. Todos los días lucho por ser esa persona de aceptación, de no juzgar, de promover espacios de diálogo y misericordia. Y así he tenido la oportunidad de enseñar a diferentes jóvenes en la Región Interamericana la importancia del diálogo en sus vidas.

En el año 2021, hemos llevado diálogo a través de sesiones virtuales a jóvenes y adultos de Chile y Panamá. Dos organizaciones Scout Nacionales muy diferentes, pero con la necesidad de implementar acciones de diálogo a lo largo de su estructura nacional para poder avanzar en sus Planes Nacionales.

Para Scouts de Chile, se diseñó una capacitación para la estructura nacional. Los 17 participantes aprendiendo los principios de diálogo para implementar el programa en su Organización Scout Nacional. Y para Scouts de Panamá se diseñó una capacitación para jóvenes (caminantes y rovers) así como para adultos voluntarios, para que a través de acciones de diálogo promuevan

Compassion and mercy with human virtues that allow us to connect with each other. From a very young age, that has been my challenge, to connect with each of my classmates, because many times my selfishness eliminates my will of connecting with others. In 2016 I had the opportunity to attend the second Dialogue for Peace training, at the international dialogue center, KAICIID in Austria.

And that experience transformed my life, the dialogue allowed me to feel vulnerable and safe at the same time. And it is a space for personal transformation. Every day I fight to be that person of acceptance, not judging, to promote spaces for dialogue and mercy. And through time I´ve had the opportunity to teach different young people in the Interamerican Region the importance of dialogue in their lives.

In 2021, we transformed the experience digital by dialoguing through virtual sessions, with young people and adults of Chile and Panama. Two very different National Scout organizations, but with the need to implement dialogue actions throughout their national structure in order to advance their National Plans.

For Scouts of Chile, a training was designed for the national structure. The 17 participants learning the principles of dialogue to implement the program in their National Scout Organization. And for Scouts of Panama, a training was designed for young people (venturers and rovers) as well as for adult volunteers, so that through dialogue actions they promote online activities with their Scouts.

Una de las actividades más destacada fue en el grupo de Scouts de Panamá, que compartieron sus historias de paz de una manera muy creativa, cada participante hizo suyo cada uno de los conocimientos. Estaremos a la espera de los resultados en cada una de las Organizaciones Scout Nacionales.

Both online trainings had different approaches under the same theme. With the help of the facilitators of both courses, Laura Delgado, Lucia Machado, Soledad Conte, we know that each of the participants was transformed by this experience. One of the most outstanding activities was in the group of Scouts of Panama, who shared their stories of peace in a very creative way, each participant made each of the knowledge their own. We will be waiting for the results in each of the National Scout Organizations.

Sabemos que Scouts del Mundo, es el único reconocimiento que otorga directamente la Organización Mundial del Movimiento Scout, a los y las jóvenes protagonistas del programa, como parte de las experiencias y aprendizajes del desarrollo de su programa educativo y su progresión personal, el mismo, busca desafiarles, a pensar y a actuar en los problemas mundiales, inspirándoles y retándoles para que desde su “metro cuadrado” puedan Construir un mundo mejor, impactando con un trabajo/servicio desinteresado y voluntario en sus comunidades.

El año 2020 trajo un cambio a nivel mundial a causa de la pandemia por la enfermedad COVID-19, la cual ocasionó la suspensión de las actividades presenciales en Guías y Scouts de Costa Rica, en acatamiento a las autoridades sanitarias, situación que se mantiene hasta la fecha en que se escribe el presente artículo. Ante este panorama y aunque desde que se lanzó el Reconocimiento Scouts del Mundo en 2006, nunca se pensó en su implementación virtual para su Descubrimiento y el proceso en general, el equipo de Mundo Mejor de programas especiales, basado en algunas experiencias exitosas del proceso, en la región interamericana, como Scouts de México y Scouts de El Salvador, se decidió trabajar en el Primer Descubrimiento Virtual Scouts del Mundo Costa Rica, que se desarrolló los días 16 y 17 de enero del 2021 y que contó con la participación de varios protagonistas de programa, en donde a lo largo de dos días adquirieron una serie de habilidades para consolidar la estructura de sus proyectos de voluntariado.

We know that Scouts of the World, is the only recognition granted directly by the World Organization of the Scout Movement, to the young people, as part of the experiences and learning of the development of its Educational Programme and his or her personal progression, it seeks to challenge them, to think and act on ther world´s problems, inspiring and challenging them so that from their “square meter” they can create a better world, impacting with a selfless and voluntary work/service in their communities.

The year 2020 brought a change worldwide because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused the suspension of face-to-face activities in the Girl Guides and Scouts of Costa Rica, in compliance with the health authorities, a situation that remains until the date in which this article is written. Against this scene, and although since the launching of Recognition Scouts of the World Award in 2006, I never thought it could be done a virtual Discovery, and the process in general, the team of the Better World programmes, based on some successful experiences of the process, the Interamerican region, as the Scouts of Mexico and Scouts of El Salvador. We decided to work in the first virtual Discovery for the girl guides and Scouts in Costa Rica, held on 16 and 17 January 2021, and with the participation of several young people, where over two days acquired a number of skills to consolidate the structure of their volunteer projects.

Una de las características fundamentales que tuvo este Descubrimiento Virtual fue el compartir conocimiento, en donde los y las jóvenes participantes recibieron capacitaciones que respondían a sus necesidades actuales y que les ayudaron en la creación de proyectos virtuales, a cargo de un equipo de profesionales, adultos voluntarios, pertenecientes a Guías y Scouts, los temas complementarios desarrollados fueron:

¿Cómo comunicar mi proyecto, por medio de las Redes Sociales?¿Cómo influir en las personas desde la virtualidad?El Storytelling: ¿Cómo comunicar una historia con impacto

Además de la capacitación básica, que se determinan en la guía país del programa, con temas como: Planificación y Gestión de ProyectosObjetivos del Desarrollo SostenibleComunicación AsertivaEvaluación de ProyectosAlianzas Estratégicas.

Ya que sabemos que existe un gran reto cuando se virtualizan eventos, que generalmente estaban concebidos desde la presencialidad, por lo que la propuesta del equipo desde un inicio, fue intercalar actividades educativas con actividades de esparcimiento y pausas activas, lo que permitía despejar a los participantes y retomar su atención / concentración, especialmente en las sesiones más extensas (soy fiel creyente de que un “Just Dance” ayuda a que todo mundo se despierte y siga trabajando!).

Además, utilizamos herramientas virtuales que queremos compartirles, como menti o slido para generar interacción entre los ponentes y los participantes, así como Genially y Padlet para presentar cronogramas e información de interés. Estas herramientas dinamizan el espacio, ofreciendo opciones atractivas que estimulan la participación de los y las jóvenes, así logrando vencer el cansancio y las distracciones.

Since we know there is a big challenge when virtualizing events, which were generally designed from the classroom. Since the very begining the proposal of the team was to interweave educational activities with leisure activities and active pauses, which allowed for clearing of the participants and focus their attention / concentration, especially in the more extensice sessions (I’m a true believer that a “Just Dance” helps everyone to wake up and keep working!).

In addition, we used virtual tools that we want to share, such as menti or slido to generate interaction between speakers and participants, as well as Genially and Padlet to present schedules and information of interest. These tools energize the space, offering attractive options that stimulate the participation of young people, thus managing to overcome fatigue and distractions.

While it is true that the creation of the virtual Discoveries for the Scouts of the World Award in Costa Rica originated thanks to the pandemic of COVID-19, we are confident that we shall continue to provide discoveries in this format, even after

Si bien es cierto que la creación de los Descubrimientos Virtuales Scouts del Mundo en Costa Rica nacieron gracias a la pandemia del COVID-19, estamos seguros que se deberán seguir ofreciendo, inclusive después de la pandemia, ya que constituyen una forma adicional para seguir impactando a más Guías y Scouts de distintas partes del país, especialmente para aquellos que viven lejos y no pueden movilizarse con facilidad a una base para participar en un Descubrimiento presencial, así como para todas aquellas personas que por situaciones de salud no pueden salir de sus casas. Los Descubrimientos Virtuales Scouts del Mundo, son una oportunidad para seguir aportando a que todos estos procesos sean más inclusivos, por lo que sin lugar a duda desde Costa Rica les invitamos a las demás organizaciones a que puedan replicarlo.

El Campus Virtual Scout para la Región Interamericana es un espacio virtual desarrollado para la formación, construcción colectiva y el trabajo en redes de los adultos que hacen parte del Movimiento Scout Mundial en cualquier rol y Organización Scout Nacional (OSN) a la que pertenezcan.

Es un espacio abierto que ofrece fácil acceso a la información para el desarrollo y mejoramiento de las competencias y el fortalecimiento y crecimiento de las OSN. Virtual Scout Campus for Interamerican Region is a virtual space developed for the training, collective construction and networking of adults who are part of the World Scout Movement in any role and National Scout Organization (NSOs) to which they belong. It is an open space that offers easy access to information for the development and improvement of the competencies and the strengthening and growth of the NSOs.
