Dear Friends, Once again the Archdiocese of Newark is offering training for bereavement counselors. I know many parishioners over the years who have participated, loved it and began groups in their parish once the training was completed. I'd like to do the same here. They are providing the training for a $175.00 as you see per participant. The parish may be able to assist with that if there's a need on your part.

As time goes on I think it will be very important for the parish to have trained bereavement counselors and group facilitators in light of the many deaths in our community due to Covid 19. While the training is only in English I'm hoping for bilngual parishoners who can offer the bereavement care to the hispanic community. The Fall Bereavement Ministry Support Training program is now open for registration. The course is offered by the Office of Family Life Ministries of the Archdiocese of Newark. The eight 2.5-hour evening ONLINE sessions begin on September 15th, 2020. This eight-session program is designed for those who wish to become facilitators for existing parish bereavement support groups or for those who wish to begin a bereavement support ministry at their parish or online. Participants will gain an overview of Loss, Grief & Mourning, current theories, and the process of healing. Basic counseling skills will be taught related to listening and asking questions that facilitate healing. Practical information will be given specific to ministering to the bereaved and starting up a parish-based support group. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will become Bereavement Support Group Facilitators for the Archdiocese of Newark. Two continuing education credits from Seton Hall University are awarded with completion. Classes begin on Tuesday, September 15th and end on Thursday, October 8th. Tuition is $175 per participant, paid by credit card or check by mail. Participants will only need to have an email and a computer, phone, or tablet with audio and video capability to take the class. For class registration and fee information please contact Lauren Tamara at 973-497-4327 or email [email protected]. Pre-registration is required; class size is limited. Participants must meet the requirements of the Safe Environment Program. Peace, blessings and fraternal regards, Rev. Joseph A. D'Amico

Paz, bendiciones y saludos fraternos, Rev. Joseph A. D'Amico
