But we opened again in May and played an anagrams game and also ‘Whoam I’ On Sunday May 8th between 25 to 30 people turned up for a BSL walk around thecentre of Cambridge visiting various colleges. We were lucky with the weather, sunnyand not hot, just right. The walk is supposed to last for one hour but was actually twohours and that is to do with lots of signing and chatting delaying the walk! The walkwas to make up for the loss of one evening at CDA and also to raise awareness as ittook place during ‘Deaf Awareness Week’ JAMIE BILLAM

Cambridge Deaf Youth GroupHello Everybody! It seems like such a long time ago that we went to AltonTowers! We set out from Milton Tesco at 8:45am and picked up the PeterboroughYouth Group at 9:30am. Everyone had lots of fun chatting on the coach, despitethe early pick up call. After arriving at Alton Towers and sorting out disabled

access wrist bands for the group, everyone quickly scattered off to find thenearest white knuckle ride! Some of our youngsters enjoyed ‘Zorbing’ on water –being zipped into a clear plastic giant ball to roll about on water – cue lots offalling over! The bravest person of the day had to be Alison Deeks – sheconquered her fear and rode Oblivion – a vertical drop rollercoaster into a blackhole at 70mph!! Everyone had a great time – nobody lost a shoe or a cochlearimplant/hearing aid on a ride and we left the park tired but happy!Since 14th  May we have been meeting fortnightly at the Cambridge DeafAssociation building from 12-2:30pm to get together for a chat, play games andlearn new skills. The DYG have an X-box Kinect and a Wii console so there’s been

lots of jumping around and looking daft! So far we’ve learnt how to makefriendship bracelets and at the last event we had a quiz, where our youngsterspitted their brains against one another to win a giant chocolate bar! Here are our future meet dates – please come along! (12-2:30pm)25th June, 9th July, 23rd July, 6th August, 3rd September, 17th September.In the future we’ll be having workshops with graffiti artists and a residential atGrafham Water in August but we need you young people to come along and tellus what you’d like to do in the future... Facebook scam targets deaf people

Trading Standards is warning Facebook users to be wary of unsolicited messagesafter a deaf woman was targeted by a scam (21st  March 2011)

The victim received a message on Facebook that seemed to come from a friendof hers and was apparently endorsed by the National Institute for the Deaf andthe World Federation for the Deaf

She sent money to a Western Union account on the promise of receiving a largersum in return. The victim lost £850 and also found that she could not access her

I hope he will stay withus for as long as possible! Please do let me know if you need any help with understanding how to use acomputer and I can arrange a training date with you to meet Brendan Casey. The

best time to meet him is on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. (Wednesday andThursday are the best days.)It would be great if all Deaf people understand how to use a webcam and haveaccess to one so that we can all sign to each other over the internet!JAMIE BILLAM
