Dit is het epicen-trum van het Gentse nachtleven.Centraal ligt de ‘Charlatan’, eengroot alternatief danscafé metelke week verschillende optre-dens, ernaast ligt de ‘Kinky Star’een kleine alternatieve club entevens een platenlabel. Aan deoverkant van dit plein zijn nogenkele zware nachtcafés. Tijdenshet ochtendgloren gaat iederevrijdag, zaterdag en zondag derommelmarkt van start op hetSint-Jacobsplein. KORENMARKT - KLEIN TURKIJEDe Korenmarkt ligt midden in hethistorisch centrum van Gent.Vanaf hier kan men naar alleandere buurten uitzwermen.Maar blijf gerust wat langer: hetnieuw aangelegde plein is eentrekpleister voor terrasjesmen-sen en de historische gebouwenerrond zorgen voor een adembe-nemend zicht. Naast de St-Niklaaskerk ligt Klein Turkije. Ditsteegje heeft niets te maken metTurkije, wel met de uitdrukking‘ter keie’, aan de grond zitten.Hier werden vroeger immersopenbare verkopen georgani-seerd, na een faillissement.Heden ten dage komt men in ditcaféstraatje echter voor vertier.Of hoe het kan verkeren!Korenmarkt lies right in the mid-dle of Ghent’s historical citycentre. OVERPOORTDeze straat is het centrum vanhet studentenleven in Gent. Metmeer dan 35 cafés naast elkaaris het dan ook de cafébuurt dietraditioneel door studentenbezocht wordt. Therefore, this is tradi-tionally the place where stu-dents meet. OUDE BEESTENMARKTZoals de naam al doet vermoe-den, kan men hier op zondag-voormiddag terecht voor ‘bees-ten’: kippen, konijnen en derge-lijke. Ook tweedehandsfietsen(zeer handig in Gent!) zitten dik-wijls in het assortiment. Dit pleinis echter in de eerste plaatsgekend als een uitgaansbuurt. Debekende Belgische band ‘DasPop’ begon ooit café ‘Video’ enhet muziekfestival ‘Boomtown’vond hier zijn oorsprong. PATERSHOL - OUDBURGHet Patershol is vooral gekendvoor zijn gezellige straatjes enuitmuntende restaurants. Tochzijn ook hier zeker leuke café’ste vinden. Zo ligt ietwatverborgen in het Patershol de‘White Cat’, een ondergrondsedanstempel. Of wat dacht je vancafé ‘Folklore’, met jukebox,volkse atmosfeer en ‘kroakeman-dels’: erwten in de olie gebak-ken, overgoten met zout. Maarook Oudburg is aan een opmarsbezig. Dit folkloristisch aan-doend straatje, dat al veel alsfilmdecor werd gebruikt, ligt volmet bars en cafés die de moeitewaard zijn. Van koffie- tot cock-tailbars, iedereen wordt bediendin deze bijzonder mooie hoek vanGent.Patershol is mainly known for its
