Out of sight Out of mind!!!
By: Maulana Dawood Vowda Sahib
All praises to Allah Taala and choicestblessings upon our beloved Prophet Hazrat
Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam).
Negligence is cancer for our Eemaan. Due to
this killer disease, the Eemaan of many Muslims haveweakened to such an extent that there is no sign of
Islam left. By the grace and mercy of Allah Taala,
many are born in Muslim homes, but Islamic values
are not instilled in the children. Our elders were very
firm on Islamic values and made all aware of Allah
Taala. As Muslims, our fundamental beliefs are on
the unseen.
In this era of materialism and technology,
Muslims are questioning matters of the unseen and if
not satisfied, reject it totally. Secular education comes
with all its evil and influence. We are bombarded with
-

4 August 2013 Shawwal - 1434the tsunamis of evil and vice from all directions and
there is no effort to sustain ones Eemaan, let alone
increasing it. The educated person of this era has
full trust in what has been taught in schools,
universities etc. and what is available in the media.
The simple reason and logic is that it makes sense to
them and they can personally see it.
This is now the test for a Muslim. Many have
not been fortunate to experience a sound Islamic
environment at home and deprived of sound Islamic
knowledge of the Maktab by sincere and dedicatedscholars. With all the intelligence of the educated
person, intellect fails to recognise the Creator,
Sustainer, Nourisher, Allah Taala . We have been
created for a purpose, but sadly have neglected our
duty. Islam is a very simple and easy religion, but we
have complicated matters.
Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam)
has warned us of many issues which we are
experiencing nowadays and sincere scholars are
trying their best to conscientize the Muslim public, but
alas, only few take heed and are successful.

5 August 2013 Shawwal - 1434Majorities are content with their wayward lifestyles
presently and may awaken only when some calamity
befalls or the punishment meted out in the Hereafter.
We cannot be judgmental of any individual in this
world, but scholars are duty bound to propagate good
and inform the Muslims of their waywardness
generally. If anyone is caught up in sins, then theperson does not become bad, they can repent, seek
forgiveness and become close and beloved servants
of Allah Taala .
Scholars have the interest of the public at heartand desire good for all Muslims in this world, the
grave and the Hereafter. It does not mean that we
cannot see Allah Taala , Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu
alaihi wasallam), angels, jinn, grave and beyond, so we
do not believe. The problem is we are not conscious
and do not reflect, which is in actual fact, negligence.
Indeed it is a bitter pill to swallow, to accept the truth
and change. What will my spouse, family, friends etc.
say? This is the fear. Are we concerned as to what
Allah Taala will say. This world is like a prison for
Muslims, due to restrictions beneficial for us, and a
paradise for non-Muslims, because they do not

6 August 2013 Shawwal - 1434believe in accountability and will dwell in hell-fire
forever.
A simple question to all those who claim to be
intelligent, is it better to live a temporary life within the
limits ofShariah with peace and be successful in the
Hereafter, or suffer temporarily or eternally in the
Hereafter due to negligence? The choice is ours. No
excuse will be acceptable in the court of Allah Taala .
We repeatedly remind men to dress decently as per
requirements of Islam, keep a full beard and conduct
all affairs with good character. Women to remainwithin the confines of the home and when necessary
to emerge, then cover themselves fully. Both must
observe Purdah from strangers, be punctual with,
Salaah, recitation of the Holy Quraan, Zikr and
Duaa. The evil of Muslim women walking
shamelessly in the early part of the morning, in
residential areas is increasing.
May Allah Taala guide us all and grant us true
understanding of Islam. Aameen.

TAFSEER( C o m m e n t a r y o f t h e H o l y
Q u r a n )By: Maulana Mufti Muhammad Shafi Sahib(Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
SURAH AL-BAQARAHNote: This part of Tafseer is the remaining portion of Surah Al-Baqarah Tafseer and hence connected with the previous chapter ofSurah Al-Baqarah Tafseer.
A doubt is quite likely to arise here. The Holy
Quran says in another place that force should not be
used to make a man change his religion, while in the
present instance it appears that force is being used.
But, in fact, force is not being used to make the
Israelites change their religion, for they had already
accepted Sayyidina Musa (Alahis Salam) as a prophet
of Allah Taala, and willing made a covenant with
Allah Taala that they would act upon the Book of
Allah Taala, if one was given to them. So, they now
stand as rebels, and are being threatened with dire
punishment for persisting in their rebellion. This is
exactly how even a secular state deals with rebels,
and how it adopts towards them an attitude quite

9 August 2013 Shawwal - 1434mercy is of two kinds. One is general and extends to
believers and disbelievers alike its action is to be
seen in the shape of worldly well-being and
prosperity. The other is special, and pertains to
believers alone it will manifest itself particularly in
the other world in the shape of salvation and
closeness to Allah Taala.
It appears that the last phrase of the present
verse has been addressed to the Jews who were the
contemporaries of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi
wasallam). Since having faith in him is also a part of
the Covenant, these Jews too have been included
among those who had been guilty of infringement. In
this verse, Allah Taala asks them to realize that it is
in His mercy alone that he has not, in spite of their
treason, sent down on them the kind of catastrophic
punishment in this world as used to descend on the
other infidels and traitors who have gone before.
Since a number of authentic Ahadeeth declare
that it is the Barakah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu
alaihi wasallam) that catastrophic punishments no
longer descend on any people, some commentators
have identified this particular mercy and grace of
Allah Taala with the sending down of Hazrat
Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) as a Prophet and

Translation:
Sayyidina Numaan bin Basheer (Raziyallahu
anhu) narrates that Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam) said: The example of the person who
obeys Allah Taala and the person who disobeys Him
is like that of a group of passengers who, having to
travel by ship, drew lots in order to decide who will
board the upper deck and who will board the lower.
Now, when the people in the lower deck intend
drawing water from the sea, they have to passthrough the upper deck. (thinking that this is annoying
the people in the upper deck), they say: if we make a

people in the upper deck.
Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) then
concludes by saying: If the passengers of the upper
deck leave them alone and allow them to do as they
please, they will all perish (i.e. they will all drown). But
if they stop them (prevent them from making a hole in
the floor of the ship), they will all be saved. (Bukhari)
Commentary:Amr-bil-Maroof and Nahi-Anil- Munkar
(encouraging people to do good actions and
discouraging them from sin and disobedience) is one
of the very important and salient features of our
Shariah. Allah Taala says in the Holy Quran:
You are the best of nations in that you are taken out
for the benefit of mankind (because) you encourage
good deeds, discourage sin and you believe in Allah.
This Hadeeth outlines the importance ofAmr-bil-Maroof and Nahi-Anil-Munkar and the disastrous
consequences of neglecting this fundamental aspect
of Islam. In short, we will have to bear the brunt of
Allah Taalas wrath (i.e. in the world), if we do not
dissuade the people from disobedience to Allah
Taala and sin.

Nabi s Love for Children

Translated By: Mufti Afzal Husain Elias Sahib
LOVE SHOWN TOWARDSCHILDREN IN GENERALIt is narrated in the Ahadeeth that any home
wherein there resides a person by the name of
Muhammad will be blessed.
It has also been narrated that any group that
assembles to consult one another on any matter, and
amongst them is a person by the name of
Muhammad, Allah Taala will most certainly bless
them in their endeavour.
It has also been reported that Hazrat Nabi
Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) will intercede on behalf
of that person who is named Muhammad and ensure
his entry into paradise. (Madaarijun Nubuwwah)

Zaid Ibn Haritha Raziyallahu Anhu whao was the slave of
Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). He was
very beloved to Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi

with his own cloth. Sometimes out of affection he
would say, If Usamah was a girl, I would have
adorned him with jewelry and beautified him in such a
way that there would have been widespread talk of
his beauty amongst the Arabs! Trimizi
Do you not see how loving Hazrat Nabi Akram
(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was towards children? He was
kind and gentle towards little girls also. Look at how
lovingly he spoke of Hazrat Usamah Raziyallahu Anhu.

On one occasion Hazrat Nabi Akram (SallallahuAlaihi Wasallam) kissed Hazrat Hasan Raziyallahu Anhu on
his lips while expressing his love to him. A person
seeing this said that he had ten children but never
displayed such affection towards any of them. Hazrat
Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) responded by
saying that he who does not show mercy to others
will not be shown mercy by Allah Taala. Muslim

Indeed it is in the rights of children that they are
shown love and affection, but their foremost rights are
that they are given the right upbringing and Islamiceducation. Love and affection are shown to a large
extent by many, but generally Islamic education and
proper upbringing lacks. May Allah Taala grant us
the ability to fulfill his rights and the rights of His
servants, aameen.
Hearing the crying of children
Hazrat Anas Raziyallahu Anhu narrates that Hazrat
Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has said, I
sometimes begin my Salah intending to lengthen mySalah, but I shorten my Salah when I hear the crying
of children as I am aware of what might be going
through the hearts of the mothers of the crying

From the teachings and advices of Faqeehul Ummat,Hadhrat Mufti
Mahmood Hasan Gangohi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
Compiled by: Hadhrat Moulana Muhammad Rahmatullah Sahib Kashmiri(Daamat Barakatuhum)
Questions posed to Hadhrat Mufti Sahib (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
1. Which school of thought do the Deobandis follow?
2. Do the elders of Deoband have love for Rasulullah
Sallallahu alaihi wasallam?
3. Do the elders of Deoband believe in the Awliyaa
(saints)?
4. Who are the Wahhaabis?
5. Are the Deobandis Wahhaabis?
6. Some people say that the Deobandis are not Ahlus

16 August 2013 Shawwal - 14347. Who are the Barelwis and the Razakhaanis?
Hadhrat's reply
Last Ramadhaan, someone wrote a letter to
me stating that he had seen Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi
wasallam in his dream instructing him to take up
employment at Darul Uloom Deoband. (This literallymeant that he should either take up employment or
strengthen his contact with Darul Uloom Deoband).
He requested for an interpretation of the dream.
Hadhrat replied, You should mention this dream to
the appropriate authorities of the madrasah. If they
had also received some bashaarat (glad tidings) andinstruction, then the matter is simple. You would get
the employment. If they haven't seen any dream,
then the interpretation would be that you should make
laazim (binding) upon yourself, the Deobandi school
of thought. The Deobandi school of thought consists
of 5 things:
1. To instil the special burning love of Allah Taala inthe heart.
2. To refrain from all customs and practices of shirk(attributing partners to Allah Taala) and tobelieve purely in His oneness.
3. The love of Hadhrat Nabi-e-Kareem Sallallahu alaihiwasallam has to overshadow the love of everycreation.

These are the 5 points. Make these 5 things
binding upon yourself. This is the meaning of

I had written only this much in my reply. However, allthese points require a detailed explanation.

Hadhrat Haaji Imdaadullah (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
In a poem of Hadhrat Haaji Imdaadullah
Muhaajir Makki (Rahmatullahi Alaihi), the following
couplet is mentioned:
"You are mine and I am yours, I am yours and you are mine."
These are some of the words of his poem. He
also made duaa, "O Allah Taala, do not raise me
blind from my grave and do not take me blind from
this world. Rather, take me away showing me the
noor of Your blessed countenance." This is an
expression of ishq (extreme love) for Allah Ta'ala.
Whoever has great love for something, he constantly
speaks about it.

He would relate the sayings of Hajee Imdaadullah

have a long breath anymore. Due to weakness, I now
experience short breath. I can only manage to take
the name of Allah Taala 180 times in one breadth
with dharb."(dharb is a special movement of the head which help
one's concentration.)
Hadhrat Moulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi(Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
Someone enquired from Hadhrat Moulana Rashid
Ahmad Gangohi(Rahmatullahi Alaihi) about how muchzikr he makes. He replied, The age for making zikr has
now gone by. The organs and limbs have become weak.
The strength to read has been taken away. Nevertheless, I
make zikr 125000 times a day. (This was Hadhrat's daily
routine, together with teaching Hadith Shareef and
counselling his mureeds on matters related to islaah). It
was the love for Allah Taala, which made him sacrifice
his sleep. He would lie down for a little while at night and
then wake up to perform Salah.
Hadhrat Moulana llyaas (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
Hadhrat Moulana Ali Mia Saahib (Rahmatullahi

Hazrat Maulana Abdul Qadir Sahibs urdu translation
of Quran. He translated: as: (Nira Dar). I
did not understand its meaning. Hence I requested
from an old Hindu ascetic as to what its meaning is.
He asked me, Where did you come across this
word? This is the Sanskrit word, which is only
understood by the learned hindus.
I replied, I heard it somewhere. Explain to me
its meaning. Does it mean:
(Be Niyaz) (not in
need of anybody)? He said, This is not the meaning. It means a
being that is not in need of others, but others are
dependent on him. Be Niyaz is an incomplete
translation of the word.
Why is there repetition in the QuranQ. What is the wisdom in the repetition of certaintopics in the Quran?
A. What is the wisdom of certain words beingrepeated in your speech?
This person remained silent.
Hazrat then said, You are asking the wisdom of
the repetition in Allah Taalas speech whereas you
cannot explain the wisdom of repeating your own words?
This repetition does not decrease the level of eloquence.

[Al-Yusuf 12:55; only relevant portion of the Aayah is documented].
He was thus transported from the lowest level
to the throne. He achieved royal esteem.
We know from this that the reason for the high
level of esteem that Allah Taala bestowed on His
Prophets was their Ilm.In fact, regarding Hazrat Khizr Alaihis Salaam,
the scholars are all unanimous on his status as a wali
of Allah Taala; most state that he was not a Prophet
of Allah taala.
Imagine a Wali of Allah Taala having the honourof being the teacher of a Prophet of Allah Taala Hazrat
Musa Alaihis Salaam! This is a very astonishing thing.
Why did it happen? Allah Taala had gifted with superior
Ilm. Allah Taala says in the Holy Quran:
Then they found one of Ours servants whom We blessed withmercy from Us and whom We gave knowledge, a knowledge
from Our own. (Al-Kahaf 18:65)

23 August 2013 Shawwal - 1434Allah Taala had gifted him with inner
knowledge. Hazrat Musa Alaihis Salaam, on the other
hand, had knowledge of the laws of Allah Taala. His
lack of inner Ilm was not a shortcoming however, this
sort of Ilm is a special endowment from Allah Taala.
Allah Taala told Hazrat Musa Alaihis Salaam
as to go and meet Hazrat Khizr Alaihis Salaam. He
met him, and asked him questions, which the latter
answered. So here, we see a person who although
not a Prophet, was teaching a Prophet of Allah
Taala! The reason for this was Ilm.

Responsibility for community training
From very early ages, children must be
accustomed to adopt Islamic social norms and
psychological principles. This is a significant duty on
those charged with bringing up children. It is based
on four factors.
1. Cultivate the best psychological principles.
2. Care about the rights of others.
3. Obey general social norms.
4. Examine society critically.
Psychological principles
Islam had prescribed rules for the spiritual
training of a person. A perfect Islamic personality
cannot be developed without following these rules.
Effective guidelines have been provided for pursuing
these principles. Some of the principles are taqwa
(abstinence, one who fears Allah Taala).
Taqwa implies that a person practicing it
should never be in places where Allah Taala has
forbidden one to go. Similarly, one must not be found
missing from the place where Allah Taala had

words. Taqwa means to protect oneself from Allah
Taalas punishment by doing good deeds and fearing
Him openly and in secret. The Noble Quran explains
the merits of taqwa and commands one to develop it.
This is why the Sahaabah, Radiyallahu Anhum, and
those who succeeded them, were very particular
about it. Taqwa may also be defined thus: a mutaqis
conscience is clear and spotless, and is in perpetual
awe and fear of Allah Taala. It saves one from the
thorns that are in ones path.

he claims that this pillar is made from gold, it will become
like that. In the field of Fiqh, he has been bestowed with
such divine guidance by Allah Taala that he did not haveto make much effort to achieve it.
One occasion, when Sufyan Thawri

than that of Imam Abu Hanifah (Rahmatullahi Alaihi).
When he departed, Imam Malik informed his students
who the visitor was and he thereafter commented on
his juristical abilities and his piety.

Khatib Baghdadi related that Harmalah Ibn yahya

Imam Abu Hanifah (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) is one of the

The Favours of Allah Taala
Ali was a very good boy. Everyone at home
loved him and he loved them all. He always
assisted his parents in everything, even in teaching
his younger brothers and sisters. Ali performed his

One day, Ali returned home from the Fajr Salaah
and went straight to bed. Why are you in bed, Ali? his
mother asked, Are you to going to school today?
Ali replied, I am not going to school today,
Mother. All my friends laugh at my torn shoes. Tellfather to please get me a new pair.
Alis father was very poor and earned only a
small wage, which barely bought their food. He
was saddened by what had happened and said to
his wife, Let us perform two rakat Salatul Haajah
and beg from Allah Taala. Allah Taala will either
arrange hor his shoes or give him the
understanding to make do with the ones he has.
Alis parents then performed the Salatul Haajah.
Ali woke up for the Zuhar Salah, made wazu
without speaking to anyoneand left for the Musjid.
As he walked, he saw his friends returning from
school wearing new shoes. Scared that they would
start to mock at him, he covered his face and
walked ahead. It was just then that Ali saw a boy
walking to the Musjid with crutches. The boy had

how ungrateful he had been for not thinking Allah
Taala for the legs he had. Unlike the boy, he was
healthy and did not need to use crutches to walk.
After the Salaah, he repented to Allah Taala
and asked his parents for forgiveness when he
returned home. After supper that evening, Ali got up to go to
outside. Where are you off to? his mother asked.
Ali smiled as he said, I am off to make my old
shoes new. He then polished his shoes until they
were shining and thanked Allah Taala for them.
Alhamdulillah in every condition.

mosque, and scholar or Ulama instead of using
the terms such as, clergy and clerics. We like this
Islamic style of writing very much. Moreover, you are
maintaining the proper etiquette while mentioning the
names of the Islamic personalities inAN-NOORsuch
as you are prefixing their names with Hazrat and
suffixing them with Sahib and Daamat-
Barakatuhum or Zeeda-Majduhum . We truly
appreciate your writing skills as we are learning much
better things from your esteemed monthly, that is,
AN-NOOR. Hats off to your endeavours.

33 August 2013 Shawwal - 1434As per the Islamic injunctions, Friday is
superior to the seven days of the week. And whenFriday of a Muslim will pass in a good manner, that is,
performing all its Islamic injunctions and abstaining
from all sins, then all the days of a week will pass in a
good and blessed manner. And in the same way,
Ramazanul-Mubarak is superior to all the months of
the year. Now if this blessed month will be spent as
per the injunctions of Islamic Shariah, then a Muslim
will be able to spend all the other months of the year
in a good and in a blessed manner. While performing
the worship of Itikaafwe experienced a high level of
spiritual bliss besides an improvement in our ethics,
said a group ofMutakifeen in the spacious Masjid of
Raheemiyyah while interacting with this columnist.
