As shown in Figure 2-2, [Device Type] is set as "Single Module Device" by default. If "UseSM Board Multiplex Mode" is selected, A interface trunk resources can be saved.

It is recommended that single module devices should not be adopted. Therefore,

"Multi-module Device" is taken as an example in the following data configuration procedures.

"Single Module Device" denotes single-module BSC. "Multi-module Device" denotes multi-moduleBSC.

After [Device Type] is set as "Multi-Module Device", [Module Number] should be setaccording to each actual on-site device configuration. For example, in case of fullconfiguration, this parameter should be set to "8", as shown in Figure 2-3.

    Configuring Hardware Device

There are two interface frames, i.e., frame 2 and frame 3, which are located in module 0. The

number of boards contained can be automatically adjusted by the system according to thenumber of every BM.

The full configuration of interface frames is shown in Figure 2-5.

Figure 2-5Full configuration of interface frames

The number of E3Ms and GFBIs in an interface frame can be automatically adjusted

according to the number of every BM. Generally, 2 GCTNs and 4 PWCs are configured.

To add a board, the user can right click an empty slot and select [Select Board], as shown in

    Figure 2-6.

    Figure 2-6Add a board

There are two modes to delete a board.

z Right click the to-be-deleted board, and select [Delete Board], as shown in Figure 2-7.

When there are 2 BMs, two adjacent GFBIs are required. E3M should be configured as perthe number of TCMSs of in the BMs. Each E3M can be connected with 4 TCSMs. When each

BM is configured with 8 TCSMs, 2 E3Ms are required.

    Configuring SS7 Link

For a multi-module BSC, SS7 links need be configured in the [Set E3M Board Property]dialog box. Each port (corresponding to a TCSM) on E3M can be configured with four SS7

    links.

Double click an E3M in Figure 2-5, the system pops up an interface, as shown in Figure 2-9.

    2.4 Configure BM Data

    2.4.1 Overview

Because the application of single module BSC is comparatively limited, here, only the BM

data configuration of multi-module BSC is introduced.

BM comprises main control frame, BIE frame and TCSM frame. 1 BM can be configured

with 1 main control frame, 1 BIE frame and 1 - 2 TCSM frames.

The full configuration of BM is shown in Figure 2-16.

    GMPU

GMPU is the main processing unit of BM. Each BM is configured with 2 GMPUs, which are

respectively configured in Slot10 of Frame1 and Frame2 of the main control frame.

The two GMPUs work in active/standby mode. The active GMPU refers to the one which is

under the control of GEMA. The GMPU in Frame2 serves as an active board by default. Ifswitchover takes place, the previous standby GMPU will serve as the active board.

    GEMA

Each BM is fixedly configured with 1 GEMA.

GEMA controls the active/standby working mode and switchover of GMPU.

    GNOD

In the case of full configuration, each BM contains 9 BIE groups, and requires 3 GNODs.Generally, the default settings can be adopted.

GNOD is used to provide mailbox communication between BIE and GMPU. Each GNOD can

provide 4 master nodes, support 4 BIE groups (Each BIE group requires 1 master node).

    GMEM

GMEM is a cell broadcast interface board, and provides cell broadcast function.

Each BM is configured with 2 GMEMs by default, which work in active/standby mode. The

one in Frame2 serves as the active board, and the one in Frame1 serves as a standby board.

However, the standby GMEM is currently not supported. Generally, the GMEM is onlyconfigured to Frame2.

To delete the GMEM in Frame1, please right click the GMEM and select [Delete Board].

    LPN7

LPN7 is used to process SS7. Each LPN7 provides 4 SS7 links. The links provided by No. 1

    LPN7 (in Slot17) are numbered 4 - 7. The links provided by No. 2 LPN7 (in Slot18) arenumbered 8 - 11.

    GLAP

GLAP provides the LAPD links which connect BM and BTS. Each GLAP provides 32 LAPDlinks. Numbering of the LAPD links provided by each board complies with the following

    rule.

    Board No. 32 + (031)

For example, the LAPD links provided by GLAP 3 are numbered as 96 - 127.

Each BM can provide up to 192 LAPD links, and can support 64 BTSs and 128 TRXs.

left board of each group is an active board, and the right one is a standby board.

The full configuration of the BIE frame is shown in Figure 2-22.

Figure 2-22Full configuration of the BIE frame

Double click the left board of a BIE group to pop up the [Set BIE Board Property] interface as

    shown in Figure 2-23.

As shown in Figure 2-24, the basic information of BIE 1 is as follows. Each BIE groupoccupies 1 master node. The master node No. is "0". The slave node number is "1", i.e., the

board number. [First HW] is configured as "0". [HW Number] is configured as "8", i.e., theboard occupies HWs 0 - 7.

    There are total 64 HWs (No.0 - No.47, No.76 - No.91) allocated to a BIE group. Generally,groups 0 - 6 each occupy 8 HWs, and groups 7 - 8 each occupy 4 HWs.

z If 4 HWs are merely configured, for an ordinary BIE in the corresponding trunk mode, the numberof available ports is reduced by half. For example, if the trunk mode is "4E1 Port*6TRX/Port", Port0and Port1 are available, while port 2 and port 3 are unavailable.

z For a transparent transmission BIE, only ports 03 are available.

[Invisible]: It can be selected if there are empty slots (with no BIE plugged in).

[Port Self-Healing]: If selected, it indicates that the self-healing function provided by thesystem is enabled.

[Board BIE Position Information]: It indicates the physical position of the BIE in the system.

[BIE Active/Standby Property]: It indicates whether the BIE is an active or standby board.

Select the [Basic Information] tab page in the [Set BIE Board Property] tab page in Figure2-23, the interface will be shown in Figure 2-25.

    Figure 2-25Basic Information

Compared with Figure 2-24, there are 2 additional parameters, [CRC4 Check [000000]] and[Transparent Transmission of SS7 Signaling] in the [Basic Information] tab page of the activeBIE.

[CRC4 Verification [000000]] is used to configure whether CRC4 is to be performed for theports on BIE. The six 0s respectively correspond to 6 E1 ports. If an E1 port is selected, the

corresponding bit will be changed into 1, indicating that CRC4 will be performed for thisport.

[Transparent Transmission of SS7 Signaling] indicates whether BIE is to transparentlytransmit SS7 signaling. If it is selected, the [BIE Port Networking Property] tab page will

disappear. Set BIE CRC4 check at the same time, as shown in Figure 2-26. BIE Group9 (inSlot23) is configured as a transparent-transmission BIE by default.

    2.4.4 TCSM Frame

TCSM implements the functions of transcoding/data rate adaptation (implemented by FTC)and submultiplexing (implemented by MSM).

In the case of full configuration, there are 2 TCSM frames in a BM, containing total 8 TCSMs.Each TCSM comprises 1 MSM and 4 FTCs.

The full configuration of TCSM frame is shown in Figure 2-27.

In actual application, the hardware of TCSM frame is placed independently on the TCSM rack, instead

of in Frame4 and Frame5 of the BM rack. If BSC is far from MSC, the TCSM rack and MSC are usuallyplaced together to save transport resources.
