INTRODUCTION TO VIZAG STEEL PLANT

• One of the largest steel plant in the country with a revenue of Rs. 11.5 Thousand Crore and a profit of 1.5 Thousand Crore• One of the major steel producers in India, Vizag

Steel Plant has an honor of NAVARATNA company.• Most critical component of the industry, over

25000 strong employees, because of whom the company has floated into profits.

POWER TRANSFORMER

• For stepping up or down the system voltage, power transformers

are used in the substations.

At generating end, the voltage is only stepped up

for transmission of power while at all the

subsequent substations the voltage is gradually

stepped down to reach finally to working

voltage level

POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER

• The potential transformer is used to convert one electrical form to another form .• It is used to measure current &voltage.

CURRENT TRANSFORMER

• The current transformer is used to step down .• It is used to measure/control/protection.• It step downs very high currents to very low currents.

ISOLATOR

• Disconnector /isolator is used to make sure that an electrical circuit can be completely de-energised for service/maintenance• Isolator is an off-load device

CIRCUIT BREAKER

• Circuit breakers are used for switching and protection.• Brake a circuit automatically under fault condition.• A circuit breaker consist of fixed and moving contact called electrode under normal condition.

LIGHTNING ARRESTOR

• Lightning arrestor provide protection to all the equipment against the HV an electric discharge between cloud and earth

between cloud and charge enters of some loud is known as lightning.• It is provide to safety transmission &distribution line.

BUS BARS

• Bus bars are common electrical component through which a large no. of feeders operating at some voltage have to connected.• It is used to connect to transmission line which supplies electricity.• It is made of high material conductor.

PROTECTIVE RELAY

• A Protective relay is a device which detect the fault.• It is to detect after their go to command circuit breaker• It is provide to safety in electrical equipments.

WAVE TRAP

• Wave Traps are used at sub-stations using Power Line Carrier Communication (PLCC). • PLCC is used to transmit communication and control information at a high frequency over the power lines. This reduces need for a separate infra for communication between sub-stations.

GIS (GAS INSULATED SUB STATION)

• Compact ,multi component assembly• Sulphur hexafluoride (sf6)gas the primary insulated

medium has a superior dielectric properties used at moderate pressure for phase to phase and phase to ground insulation• Preferred for voltage ratings of

72.5kv,145kv,300kv,420kv.• Every equipment in substation is enclosed with sf6

gas.

ADVANTAGES OF GIS:

• It occupies very less space• More reliable than Air insulated substations• Number of outages due fault is less• Maintenance free

CONCLUSION

• Now from this report we conclude that ELECTRICITY plays a important role in daily life• In this training we are made aware that how transmission of

power in substation for various departments in VIZAG STEEL PLANT
