The sway of language, like that of the search and the persistence for di-luting frontiers: to reconstruct an utopic (geographic and plastic) map, to affirm that these “motives of the self” to delve into a conceptual ap-proximation to how diaspora influences and has influenced an artist’s body of work, and provides the resources to experiment and gestate from one’s own place of research; in media that, by way of their cross-ing of languages, are malleable and apt for hybridization, like film, printing, expanded video, collage, and installationTo take collage as a starting point (join cut-outs, pile hyperlinks togeth-er, attach fragments to each other) helps create these differences and coincidences between the virtual and physical realm, which strongly relates to the materiality of formats.Pencils, paper, scanners, screens, video, and the filters that can com-pose images, all speak of personal limitations in bi-dimensional envi-ronments.In this sphere of thought, the screen provokes a particular effect: that which is not available in an instant would be available in another in-stant –the issue of time. Paper itself is a physical form: real.Here, two confusions come into play: the real/the unreal, the tangible/the intangible.To create virtual spaces through printed media, and to move across this inverse dance and somehow rescue paper as matter and screen as contemplative pictoric landscape are some of my current interests.

The idea that physical, material space only belongs to something “real” seems restrictive when our notions of time and space are changing with the hybridization of the physical and the digital.
