Compendium
■ Issue: Implementation of modern sensor technologies in water and wastewater is lagging behind; existing potential is not being fully exploited.
■ Barriers: true capabilities and user experience of water quality sensors (too) hard to find & benefits are unclear resulting in reluctance to deploy
■ WERF project SENG1C11, commissioned by GWRC, will: ■ document user experience
(what works, what is needed to keep it working, what is it used for, what are the benefits, how can successes be repeated, ...)
■ document the benefits to be achieved by appropriate use of sensors
■ create a public online Compendium which will provides unbiased sensor performance information, best practice guidelines & case studies
■ allow us to learn from the experience of existing users and facilitate communication between stakeholders
A Compendium of Sensors and Monitors and their Use in the Global Water Industry
23Watercycle Research Institute
Compendium
■ Project Timeline: October 2012 – December 2013
■ Information Gathering:a series of online questionnaires for selected water/wastewater utility personnel
workshops to obtain accurate information face-to-face
a review of relevant literature and interviews with experts
in-depth case studies of instrument deployment at a number of utilities
detailed information from sensor manufacturers
■ Compendium: to be provided as a searchable web application at...www.wqsmc.org (available online Q4 2013)
■ Contributions / Sharing of user experience?
