    بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم الحمد هلل رب العالمين، وصلى هللا على سيدنا محمد وآله الطاهرين، وسلم تسليما.

    In the Name of Allahazwj the Beneficent, the Merciful. The Praise is for Allahazwj Lordazwj of the Worlds, and Blessing be upon our Chief Muhammadsaww and hissaww Purified Progenyasws, and greetings with abundant greetings.

    أمير المؤمنين " ع "( )أهل البصرة وترك أموالهم( العلة التى من أجلها قاتل - 321)باب

    Chapter 123 – The reason due to which Amir Al-Momineenasws fought the people of Al-Basra but left their wealth alone

    حدثنا محمد بن الحسن رضى هللا عنه قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار عن احمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن علي بن الحكم، عن الربيع بن محمد، عن عبد هللا ابن سليمان قال: قلت البي عبد هللا ان الناس يروون ان عليا " ع " قتل أهل

    فيها، ودار االسالم ال يحل ما فيها البصرة وترك أموالهم، فقال: ان دار الشرك يحل ما

    Muhammad Bin Al Hassan narrated to us, from Muhammad Bin Al Hassan Al Saffar, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Ali Bin Al Hakam, from Rabie Bin Muhammad, from Abdullah Ibn Suleyman who said,

    ‘I said to Abu Abdullah, ‘The people are reporting that Aliasws fought the people of Al-Basra but left alone their wealth’. So heasws said: ‘In the house of the Polytheism (Mushriqeen), whatever is therein, is Permissible, and the house of Al-Islam, whatever is therein, is not Permissible’.

    فقال: ان عليا " ع " إنما من عليهم كما من رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله على أهل مكة وإنما ترك علي " ع " أموالهم النه كان يعلم انه سيكون له شيعة وان دولة الباطل ستظهر عليهم فاراد ان يقتدى به في شيعته وقد رأيتم آثار ذلك هو ذا

    ي عليه السالم ولو قتل علي " ع " أهل البصرة جميعا واخذ اموالهم لكان ذلك له حالال لكنه من يسار في الناس بسيرة عل عليهم ليمن على شيعته من بعده.

    Heasws said: ‘But rather, Aliasws did a favour upon them, just as Rasool-Allahsaww had done upon the people of Makkah. So, Aliasws left alone their wealth because heasws knew that there would be Shiah for himasws (in the future) and that the government of the Falsehood would be overcoming them. Therefore, heasws intended that this (policy) should be followed with regards to hisasws Shiah. And you have seen the effects of that that this policy of Aliasws flowed among the people. And, had Aliasws killed the people of Al-Basra altogether, and seized their wealth, and that was Permissible unto himasws, but heasws favoured upon them, so that hisasws Shiah would be favoured upon from (the rulers to come) after himasws’.1

    وقد روي ان الناس اجتمعوا إلى أمير المؤمنين يوم البصرة فقالوا: يا أمير المؤمنين أقسم بيننا غنايمهم؟ قال: أيكم يأخذ أم المؤمنين في سهمه؟.

    And it has been reported that the people gathered to Amir Al Momineen asws

    on the day of Al Basra, so they said,

    (The narrator says it was asked, ‘O Amir Al-Momineenasws! Would youasws be dividing their wealth as war booty in between us?’ Heasws said: ‘Which ones of you would take ‘The mother of the Believers’ (Ayesha) in his share?’2

    Chapter 124 – The reason due to which Amir Al-Momineenasws left Fidak when heasws ruled the people

    حدثنا علي بن احمد بن محمد الدقاق قال: حدثني محمد بن أبي عبد هللا الكوفي عن موسى بن عمران النخعي عن عمه الحسين بن يزيد النوفلي، عن علي بن سالم عن ابيه، عن ابى بصير عن ابى عبد هللا " ع " قال: قلت له لم لم يأخذ أمير

    لى الناس والي علة تركها؟ فقال: الن الظالم والمظلوم كانا قدما على هللا عزوجل، وأثاب هللا المؤمنين " ع " فدك لما و المظلوم، وعاقب الظالم. فكره ان يسترجع شيئا قد عاقب هللا عليه غاصبه وأثاب عليه المغصوب.

    Ali Bin Ahmad Bin Muhammad al Daqaq narrated to us, from Muhammad Bin Abu Abdullah Al Kufy, from Musa Bin Imran Al Nakhai’e, from his uncle Al Husayn Bin Yazeed Al Nowfaly, from Ali Bin Saalim, from his father, from Abu Baseer,

    (The narrator) says ‘I said to Abu Abdullahasws, ‘Why did Amir Al-Momineenasws not seize Fadak when heasws ruled the people, and what is the reason for leaving it?’ So heasws said: ‘Because the oppressor and the oppressed would be preceding to Allahazwj Might and Majestic, and Allahazwj would Reward the oppressed, and Punish the oppressor. Therefore, heasws disliked that heasws should retrieve something and Allahazwj would be Punishing its usurper over it, and Rewarding the usurped over it’.3

    ه هللا قال حدثنا أبى، عن ابيه إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن محمد بن ابى عمير، حدثنا احمد بن علي بن إبراهيم بن هاشم رحمعن إبراهيم الكرخي قال: سألت ابا عبد هللا " ع " فقلت له الي علة ترك علي بن ابى طالب " ع " فدك لما ولى الناس

    داره فقيل له يارسول هللا أال ترجع فقال: لالقتداء برسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله لما فتح مكة وقد باع عقيل بن ابى طالبإلى دارك؟ فقال صلى هللا عليه وآله وهل ترك عقيل لنا دارا إنا أهل بيت ال نسترجع شيئا يؤخذ منا ظلما. فلذلك لم

    يسترجع فدك لما ولى.

    Ahmad Bin Ali Bin Ibrahim Bin Hashim narrated to us, from his father, from his father Ibrahim Bin Hashim, from Muhammad Bin Abu Umeyr, from Ibrahim Al Karkhy who said,

    ‘I asked Abu Abdullahasws, so I said to himasws, ‘For which reason did Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws leave Fadak when heasws ruled the people?’ Heasws said: ‘For (the sake of) following Rasool-Allahsaww, when hesaww conquered Makkah, and Aqeel son of Abu Talibas had sold hissaww house. So it was said to himsaww, ‘O Rasool-Allahsaww! Will yousaww not go to yoursaww house?’ So hesaww said: ‘And has Aqeel left a house for ussaww? Weasws, the Peopleasws of the Household, do not retrieve anything which has been seized from usasws unjustly’. Thus, it was due to that, he (Aliasws) did not retrieve Fadak when heasws ruled’.4

    حدثنا احمد بن الحسن القطان قال: حدثنا احمد بن سعيد الهمداني قال حدثنا علي بن الحسن بن علي بن فضال عن ابيه عن ابى الحسن " ع قال: سألته عن أمير المؤمنين لم لم يسترجع فدكا لما ولى الناس؟ فقال: النا أهل بيت ال نأخذ حقوقنا

    هو ونحن أولياء المؤمنين إنما نحكم لهم ونأخذ حقوقهم ممن ظلمهم وال نأخذ النفسنا.ممن ظلمنا اال

    Ahmad Bin Al Hassan Al Qatan narrated to us, from Ahmad Bin Saeed Al hamdany, from Ali Bin Al Hassan Bin Ali Bin Fazal, from his father,

    (The narrator says) ‘I asked Abu Al-Hassanasws about Amir Al-Momineenasws. Why did heasws not retrieve Fadak when heasws ruled the people?’ So heasws said: ‘Because weasws, the Peopleasws of the Household, do not seize ourasws rights from the ones who oppress usasws, as he (Amir Al-Momineenasws) and usasws are the Guardians of the Believers. But rather, weasws pass judgement for them and weasws take their right from the ones who oppress them, but we do not take for ourselvesasws’.5

    Chapter 125 – The reason due to which Rasool-Allahazwj teknonymed Amir Al-Momineen Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws as ‘Abu Turaab’ (Father of the earth)

    لكني اعتمد في ذلك على ما حدثني به احمد بن الحسن القطان قال: حدثنا أبو العباس احمد بن يحيى بن زكريا قال: حدثنا بكر بن عبد هللا بن حبيب قال: حدثنا تميم بن بهلول، عن ابيه قال: حدثنا أبو الحسن العبدي، عن سليمان بن مهران عن

    باس، لم كنى رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله عليا عليه السالم أبا تراب؟ قال النه عباية ابن ربعي قال: قلت لعبدهللا بن عصاحب االرض وحجة هللا على أهلها بعده وبه بقاؤها واليه سكونها ولقد سمعت رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله يقول: انه

    الثواب والزلفى والكرامة قال يا ليتني كنت ترابا إذا كان يوم القيامة ورأى الكافر ما أعد هللا تبارك وتعالى لشيعة علي من وذلك قول هللا عزوجل: )ويقول الكافر ياليتني كنت ترابا(. -يعني من شيعة علي -

    But, what is reliable with regards to that, is what was narrated to me by - Ahmad Bin Al-Hassan Al-Qataan, from Abu Al-Abbas Ahmad Bin Yahya Bin Zakariya, from Bakr Bin Abdullah Bin Habeeb, from Tameem Bin Bahloul, from his father, from Abu Al-Hassan Al-Abdy, from Suleyman Bin Mahran, from Abaya Bin Rabi’e who said:

    ‘I said to Abdullah Bin Ibn Abbas, ‘Why did Rasool-Allahsaww teknonym Aliasws as ‘Abu Turaab’?’ He said, ‘Because heasws is the Master of the earth, and Proof of Allahazwj over its people after himsaww, and its tranquillity is due to himasws. And I heard the Rasool-Allahsaww saying: ‘When it will be the Day of Judgement, and the Infidel would see what Allahazwj has Prepared for the Shiah of Aliasws, from the Rewards and the Nearness, and the Prestige, he would say O! I wish I were dust! i.e., from the Shiah of Aliasws and that is in the Words of Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic [78:40] and the unbeliever shall say: O! I wish I were dust!’.6

    حدثني الحسين بن يحيى بن ضريس، عن معاوية بن صالح بن ضريس البجلي قال: حدثنا أبو عوانة قال: حدثنا محمد بن يث، عن مجاهد، عن ابن عمر قال بينا أنا مع يزيد وهشام الزراعي قال: حدثني عبد هللا بن ميمون الطهوي قال: حدثنا ل

    النبي صلى هللا عليه وآله في نخيل المدينة وهو يطلب عليا عليه السالم إذا إنتهى إلى حايط فاطلع فيه فنظر إلى علي " ع " وهو يعمل في االرض وقد اغبار، فقال ما ألوم الناس إن يكنوك أبا تراب،

    Al Husayn Bin Yahya Bin Zareys narrated to me, from Muawiya Bin Salih Bin Zareys Al Bajaly, from Abu Awana, from Muhammad Bin Yazeed and Hashim Al Zarai’e, from Abdullah Bin Maymoun Al Tahouwi, from Lays, from Mujahid, from Ibn Umar who said,

    ‘While I was with the Prophetsaww among the palm trees of Al-Medina, and heasws was looking for Aliasws, when hesaww ended up to a garden. So hesaww noticed Aliasws

    therein working on the ground, and heasws was covered in dust. So hesaww said: ‘What blame would people place upon mesaww if Isaww were to teknonym youasws as ‘Abu Turaab’’.

    فقال النبي صلى هللا عليه وآله أال ارضيك يا على قال: نعم يارسول هللا فاخذ بيده فقال: أنت اخى ووزيري وخليفتي في هللا له أهلي تقضى ديني وتبرئ ذمتي، من احبك في حياة مني فقد قضى له بالجنة، ومن احبك في حياة منك بعدى ختم

    باالمن، وااليمان، ومن احبك بعدك ولم يرك ختم هللا له باالمن وااليمان وآمنه يوم الفزع االكبر، ومن مات وهو يبغضك يا علي مات ميتة جاهلية يحاسبه هللا عز وجل بما عمل في االسالم.

    . So the Prophetsaww said: ‘Shall Iasws please youasws, O Aliasws?’ Heasws said: ‘Yes, O Rasool-Allahsaww’. So hesaww grabbed himasws by hisasws hand and said: ‘Youasws are mysaww brother, and mysaww Vizier, and mysaww Caliph among mysaww family. Youasws will fulfill mysaww debts, and mysaww responsibilities. The one who loves youasws during mysaww lifetime, Isaww shall judge the Paradise for him, and the one who loves youasws after mysaww lifetime, Allahazwj would Seal the security, and the faith for him. And the one who loves youasws after youasws, and heasws has not seen youasws, Allahazwj would Seal the security and the faith for him, and Give him security on the Day of the great terror. And the one who dies and he has hated youasws, O Aliasws, died the death of the Pre-Islamic period. Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic would only Reckon the one with what he had done during Al-Islam’.7

    Chapter 126 – The reason due to which Amir Al-Momineenasws used to wear four rings

    حدثنا أبو سعيد محمد بن الفضل بن محمد بن اسحاق المذكر المعروف بابى سعيد المعلم النيسابوري بنيسابور قال: اخبرنا أبو جعفر محمد بن احمد بن سعيد قال: حدثنا أبو عبد هللا محمد بن مسلم بن زرارة الرازي قال: حدثنا محمد بن يوسف

    ماعيل السندي، عن عبد خير قال: كان لعلى بن ابى طالب أربعة خواتيم يتختم الفريابى قال: حدثنا سفيان الثوري، عن اسبها ياقوت لنبله، وفيروزج لنصره والحديد الصيني لقوته، وعقيق لحرزه. وكان نقش الياقوت: ال إله إال هللا الملك الحق

    جميعا، ونقش العقيق ثالثة أسطر: ما المبين، ونقش الفيروزج: هللا الملك الحق المبين، ونقش الحديد الصيني: العزة هلل شاء هللا القوة إال باهلل استغفر هللا.

    Abu Saeed Muhammad Bin Al Fazal Bin Muhammad Bin Is’haq Al Mazkar well known as Abu Saeed Al Ma’lam Al Neysabouri narrated to us at Neysabour, from Abu Ja’far Muhammad Bin Ahmad Bin Saeed, from Abu Abdullah Muhammad Bin Muslim Bin Zarara Al Razy, from Muhammad Bin Yusuf Al Faryabi, from Sufyan Al Sowry, from Ismail Al Sindy, from Abd Khayr who said,

    ‘Aliasws had four rings which heasws used to wear – Sapphire for hisasws nobility, and Turquoise for hisasws victory, and the Chinese Iron for hisasws strength, and Garnet for hisasws protection. And it was engraved upon the Sapphire: ‘There is no god except for Allahazwj, the King, the Evident Truth’; and it was engraved upon the Turquoise: ‘Allahazwj, the King, the Evident Truth’; and it was engraved upon the Chinese Iron: ‘All Honour is for Allahazwj’; and three lines were engraved upon the Garnet: ‘Whatever Allahazwj so Desires, There is no Strength except by Allahazwj, I seek Forgiveness of Allahazwj’.8

    Chapter 127 – Reason for Amir Al-Momineenasws wearing hisasws ring in hisasws right hand

    حدثنا عبد الواحد بن محمد بن عبدوس العطار النيسابوري رضى هللا عنه قال: حدثنا علي بن محمد بن قتيبة النيسابوري اخبرني عن تختم أمير قال: حدثنا الفضل بن شاذان عن محمد بن أبى عمير قال: قلت البي الحسن موسى عليه السالم

    المؤمنين " ع " بيمينه الي شئ كان؟ فقال: إنما كان يتختم بيمينه النه إمام أصحاب اليمين بعد رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله وقد مدح هللا تعالى أصحاب اليمين وذم أصحاب الشمال، وقد كان رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله يتختم بيمينه وهو

    يعرفون به وبالمحافظة على أوقات الصالة وإيتاء الزكاة، ومواساة االخوان، واالمر بالمعروف والنهى عن عالمة لشيعتنا المنكر.

    Abdul Wahid Bin Muhammad Bin Abdous Al Ataar Al neysabouri narrated to us, from Ali Bin Muhammad Bin Quteyba Al Neysabouri, from Al Fazal Bin Shazaan, from Muhammad Bin Abu Umeyr who said,

    ‘I said to Abu Al-Hassan Musaasws, ‘Inform me about the rings of Amir Al-Momineenasws being in hisasws right hand, for which reason was it?’ So heasws said: ‘But rather heasws wore the rings in hisasws right hand, because heasws is the Imamasws of the Companions of the right hand, after Rasool-Allahsaww, and Allahazwj has Praised the Companions of the right hand, and has Condemned the companions of the left hand. And Rasool-Allahsaww used to wear rings in hissaww right hand, and it is a sign for ourasws Shiah to be recognised by, and by the preservation of the timings of the Prayer, and the giving of the Zakat, and equalisation with the brethren, and the enjoining of the good, and the forbidding of the evil’.9

    (It has been narrated) from Ja’farasws Bin Muhammadasws, from hisasws fatherasws, from Jabir Bin Abdullah having said, ‘The Prophetsaww used to wear rings in hissaww right hand’.10

    Proximity ones’. Heasws said: ‘O Rasool-Allahsaww! And who are the Proximity ones?’ Hesaww said: ‘Jibraeelas and Mikaeelas’. Heasws said: ‘With what (type of ring) shall Iasws wear, O Rasool-Allahsaww?’ Hesaww said: ‘With the red Sapphire, for it accepted for Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic, with the Oneness, and (accepted) mesaww with the Prophet-hood, and for youasws, O Aliasws, with the successorship, and for yourasws sonsasws with the Imamate, and for those that love youasws with the Paradise, and for the Shiah of yourasws sonsasws with the Firdows’.11

    Chapter 128 – Reason for the Higher Hairline of Amir Al-Momineenasws, and the reason due to which heasws was called ‘Al-Anza’a Al Bateen’

    إدريس ومحمد بن يحيى العطار جميعا عن محمد بن حدثنا أبى ومحمد بن الحسن رضى هللا عنهما قاال: حدثنا احمد بناحمد بن يحيى بن عمران االشعري باسناد متصل لم احفظه، ان أمير المؤمنين " ع " قال: إذ أراد هللا بعبد خيرا رماه

    My father and Muhammad Bin Al Hassan narrated to us, from Ahmad Bin Idrees and Muhammad Bin Yahya Al Ataar together, from Muhammad Bin Ahmad Bin Yahya Bin Imran Al Ash’ary, by an unbroken chain which I did not memorise,

    (It has been narrated) from Amir Al-Momineenasws having said: ‘If Allahazwj Intends good with a servant, Casts him with the higher headline in openings of the hair from his head, and see, Iasws am like that’.12

    لرجل وهللا لقد سألت عن رجل ما وطئ الحصى بعد رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه اختلف الناس فيه؟ فقال له ابن عباس: أيها اوآله أفضل منه وانه الخو رسول هللا وابن عمه ووصيه وخليفته على أمته وانه االنزع من الشرك، بطين من العلم، ولقد

    زع يعني عليا عليه السالم. سمعت رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله يقول: من أراد النجاة غدا فليأخذ بحجزة هذا االن

    Ahmad Al Hassan Al Qatan narrated to us, from Ahmad Bin Yahya Bin Zakariyya Al Qataan, from Bakr Bin Abdullah Bin Habeeb, from Tameem Bin Bahloul, from Abaya Bin Rabie who said,

    ‘A man went to Ibn Abbad, so he said to him, ‘Inform me about the ‘Al Anza’a Al Bateen’ Ali asws Bin Abu Talibasws, for the people are differing with regards to it?’ So Ibn Abbas said to him, ‘O you man! By Allahazwj, you have asked me about a man, none has trodden the gravel after Rasool-Allahsaww more meritorious than himasws, for heasws is a brother of Rasool-Allahsaww, and a son of hisasws uncleas, and hissaww successorasws, and hissaww Caliph over hissaww community, and heasws is removed from the Polytheism, full up from the knowledge. And I have heard Rasool-Allahsaww saying: ‘Whoever wants the salvation tomorrow, so let him hold on to a part of this ‘Al Anza’a’, meaning Aliasws’.13

    Chapter 129 – The reason due to which Ali asws Bin Abu Talibasws was named as ‘Amir Al-Momineen’, and the reason due to which hisasws sword was named as ‘Zulfiqar’, and the reason due to which Al-Qaimasws has been named as ‘Qaim’, and Al-Mahdiasws as ‘Mahdi’

    Ali Bin Ahmad Bin Muhammad Al Daqaq and Muhammad Bin Muhammad Bin Asaam both narrated to us, from Muhammad Bin Yaqoub Al Kulayni, from Al Qasim Bin Al A’ala, from Ismail Al Fazary, from Muhammad Bin Jamhour Al A’ama, from Ibn Abu Najran, from the one who mentioned, from Abu Hamza Sabit Bin Dinaar Al Sumaly who said,

    ‘O sonasws of Rasool-Allahsaww! Why was Aliasws named as ‘Amir Al-Momineen’, and it is a name which no one has been named before himasws, and it is not permissible for anyone to be named as such after himasws?’ Heasws said: ‘Because heasws is a ‘Meerat’ (Treasure trove) of the knowledge which is being supplied from himasws, and it is not supplied from anyone apart from himasws’.

    قال فقلت يابن رسول هللا فلم سمي سيفه ذاالفقار؟ فقال " ع ": النه ما ضرب به احد من خلق هللا إال افقره من هذه الدنيا من اهله وولده وافقره في اآلخرة من الجنة

    He (Abu Hamza) said, ‘O sonasws of Rasool-Allahsaww! So why was hisasws sword named as ‘Zulfiqaar’?’ So heasws said: ‘Because heasws did not strike any one from the creatures of Allahazwj with it, except that he was deprived (Afqar) of this world, from his family, and his children, and deprived in the Hereafter from the Paradise’.

    فلستم كلكم قايمين بالحق؟ قال: بلى قلت فلم سمي القايم قائما؟ قال: لما قتل جدي الحسين عليه قال: فقلت يابن رسول هللاالسالم ضجت عليه المالئكة إلى هللا تعالى بالبكاء والنحيب وقالوا: إلهنا وسيدنا أتغفل عمن قتل صفوتك وابن صفوتك

    تي وجاللي النتقمن منهم ولو بعد حين، وخيرتك من خلقك، فأوحى هللا عز وجل إليهم قروا مالئكتي فوعز

    He (Abu Hamza) said, ‘So I said, ‘O sonasws of Rasool-Allahsaww! Are youasws all not standing with the Truth?’ Heasws said: ‘Yes’. I said, ‘So why has Al-Qaimasws been named as ‘Qaim’ (The one making a stand)?’ Heasws said: ‘When myasws grandfatherasws Al-Husaynasws was killed, the Angels were in uproar to Allahazwj the High with the crying and the wailing, and they said, ‘Our Godazwj, and our Masterasws! Are Youazwj Oblivious from the one who killed Yourazwj elite, and sonasws of Yourazwj elite, and Yourazwj Chosen one from Yourazwj creatures?’ So Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic Revealed until them: “Calm down Myazwj Angels, for Iazwj Swear by Myazwj Mighty and Myazwj Majesty that Iazwj shall be Exacting revenge from them, even though it may be after a while”.

    ثم كشف هللا عز وجل عن االئمة من ولد الحسين " ع " للمالئكة فسرت المالئكة بذلك فإذا احدهم قايم يصلى فقال هللا عز وجل بذلك القائم انتقم منهم.

    Then Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic Uncovered (the veil) from the Imamsasws from the sonsasws of Al-Husayn asws for the Angels (to see). So the Angels were in

    cheerfulness due to that. So there was one of them (Imamsasws) standing, Praying. So Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic Said: “It is by that standing oneasws, Iazwj shall be Exacting Revenge from them”.14

    حدثنا محمد بن محمد بن عصام الكليني قال: حدثنا محمد بن يعقوب عن عالن الكليني رفعه إلى ابى عبد هللا " ع " انه قال: إنما سمي سيف أمير المؤمنين ذاالفقار النه كان في وسطه خط في طوله، فشبه بفقار الظهر فسمى ذاالفقار بذلك

    به جبرئيل " ع " من السماء، وكانت حلقته فضة، وهو الذي نادى به مناد من السماء: ال سيف إال ذو وكان سيفا نزل الفقار والفتى إال علي.

    Muhammad Bin Muhammad Bin Asaam Al Kulayni, from Muhammad Bin Yaqoub, from Alaan Al Kulayni,

    (It has been narrated) raising it to Abu Abdullahasws having said: ‘But rather, the sword of Amir Al-Momineenasws was named as ‘Zulfiqar’, be there was in the middle of it, a line written along its length, so it resembles with the backbone, thus it was named as Zulfiqar due to that. And it was a sword which Jibraeelas descended with from the sky, and its enclosure was of silver, and it is that which a Caller Called out with from the sky: ‘There is no sword except for Zulfiqar, and there is no youth (Believer) except for Aliasws’’.15

    حدثنا أبى رحمه هللا قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد هللا عن الحسن بن على الكوفي، عن عبد هللا بن المغيرة عن سفيان بن عبد المؤمن االنصاري، عن عمرو ابن شمر، عن جابر قال: أقبل رجل إلى ابى جعفر " ع " وانا حاضر، فقال رحمك هللا

    زكاة مالي، فقال له أبو جعفر عليه السالام: بل خذها أنت فضعها اقبض هذه الخمسمائة درهم فضعها في موضعها فإنهاإنما يكون هذا إذا قام قائمنا فإنه يقسم بالسوية ويعدل في خلق في جيرانك وااليتام والمساكين، وفي اخوانك من المسلمين،

    الرحمان، البر منهم والفاجر، فمن اطاعه فقد اطاع هللا، ومن عصاه فقد عصى هللا

    My father narrated to us, from Sa’ad Bin Abdullah, from Al Hassan Bin Ali AL Kufy, from Abdullah Bin Al Mugheira, from Sufyan Bin Abdul Momin Al Ansary, from Amro Ibn Shimr, from Jabir who said,

    ‘A man came over to Abu Ja’farasws, and I was present, so he said, ‘May Allahazwj have Mercy on youasws! Capture these five hundred Dirham, and place this in its (appropriate) place, for this is Zakat of my wealth’. So Abu Ja’farasws said to him: ‘But, you take it, and place it (give it out) among your neighbours, and the orphans, and the poor, and among your brethren from the Muslims. But rather, this would become (for usasws), when ourasws Qaimasws makes a stand, heasws would distribute with the equality and justice among the creatures of the Beneficent, the righteous from them as well as the immoral. So the one who obeys himasws has obeyed Allahazwj, and the one who disobeys himasws, so he has disobeyed Allahazwj.

    التوراة فإنما سمي المهدى النه يهدى المر خفي، يستخرج التوراة وسائر كتب هللا من غار بانطاكية فيحكم بين أهلبالتوراة، وبين اهل االنجيل باالنجيل، وبين اهل الزبور بالزبور، وبين اهل الفرقان بالفرقان، وتجمع إليه أموال الدنيا كلها

    ما في بطن االرض وظهرها،

    But rather, heasws has been named as ‘Al-Mahdi’ because would be Guided to the hidden matters. Heasws would bring out the Torah and the rest of the Books of Allahazwj from a cave at Antioch. Thus heasws would Judge between the people of the Torah by the Torah, and between the people of the Evangel by the Evangel, and between the people of the Psalms by the Psalms, and between the people of the

    Quran by the Quran. And all of the wealth of the world would be gathered to himasws, whatever is in the belly of the earth and upon its back.

    محارم هللا، فيعطي شيئا لم يعط احدا كان قبله. فيقول للناس تعالوا إلى ما قطعتم فيه االرحام وسفكتم فيه الدماء وركبتم فيه

    So heasws would be saying to the people: ‘Come to what with regards to which you cut off the relationships, and shed blood with regards to it, and for which you rode upon the Prohibitions of Allahazwj. So heasws would give something which no one had given before himasws’.

    قال: وقال رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله وهو رجل مني إسمه كاسمي يحفظني هللا فيه ويعمل بسنتي يمال االرض قسطا وعدال ونورا بعد ما تمتلي ظلما وجورا وسوءا.

    Heasws said: ‘And Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘And heasws is a manasws from mesaww, hisasws name is like mysaww name. May Allahazwj Save mesaww with regards to it. And heasws would be acting in accordance with mysaww Sunnah. Heasws would fill the earth with equity, and justice, and Light, after it having being filled with injustice, and tyranny, and darkness’.16

    حدثنا المظفر بن جعفر بن المظفر العلوى رحمه هللا قال: حدثنا جعفر ابن محمد بن مسعود قال: حدثنا جبرئيل بن احمد حسن بن خرذاد عن محمد بن موسى بن الفرات، عن يعقوب بن سويد، عن جعفر " ع " قال: قلت له جعلت قال: حدثني ال

    فداك لم سمي أمير المؤمنين " ع " أمير المؤمنين؟ قال: النه يميرهم العلم أما سمعت كتاب هللا عز وجل )ونمير أهلنا(.

    Al Muzaffar Bin Ja’far Bin Al Muzaffar Al Alawy narrated to us, from Ja’far Ibn Muhammad Bin Masoud, from Jibraeel Bin Ahmad, from Al Hassan Bin Kharzad, from Muhammad Bin Musa Bin Al Furat, from Yaqoub Bin Suweyd,

    (The narrator says), ‘I said to (Imam) Ja’farasws, ‘May I be sacrificed for youasws: ‘Why was Amir Al-Momineenasws named as ‘Amir Al-Momineen’?’ Heasws said: ‘Because heasws supplied them (brought them) the knowledge. But have you not heard the Book of Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic [12:65] and we will bring grain for our family’.17

    نين علي بن أبى طالب قسيم الجنة والنار؟ قال: الن حبه إيمان وبغضه جعفر بن محمد الصادق " ع " لم صار أمير المؤمكفر، وإنما خلقت الجنة الهل االيمان، وخلقت النار الهل الكفر، فهو عليه السالم قسيم الجنة والنار، لهذه العلة فالجنة ال

    يدخلها إال أهل محبته، والنار ال يدخلها إال أهل بغضه.

    Ahmad Bin Al Hassan Al Qatan narrated to us, from Ahmad Bin Yahya Bin Zakariyya Abu Al Abbas Al Qatan, from Muhammad Bin Isamil Al Barmakky, from Abdullah Bin Dahar, from his father, from Muhammad Bin Sinan, from Al Mufazzal Bin Umar who said,

    ‘I said to Abu Abdullah Ja’farasws Bin Muhammad Al-Sadiqasws, ‘Why did Amir Al-Momineen Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws come to be Distributor of the Paradise and the Fire?’ Heasws said: ‘Because, love for himasws is faith, and hate for himasws is Disbelief. But rather, the Pardise was Created for the people of the Eman (faith), and the Fire was Created for the people of the disbelief. Therefore, heasws is the Distributor of the Paradise and the Fire, due to this reason. So the Paradise, none shall enter it except for the people who love himasws, and the Fire, none shall enter it except for the people who hate himasws’.

    قال المفضل: فقلت يابن رسول هللا فاالنبياء واالوصياء عليهم السالم كانوا يحبونه واعدائهم كانوا يبغضونه؟ قال نعم قلت قال: أما علمت ان النبي صلى هللا عليه وآله قال يوم خيبر: العطين الراية غدا رجال يحب هللا ورسوله ويحبه فكيف ذلك؟

    قلت بلى، هللا ورسوله ما يرجع حتى يفتح هللا على يديه، فدفع الراية إلى علي عليه السالم ففتح هللا تعالى على يديه.

    Al-Mufazzal narrates, ‘So I said, ‘O sonasws of Rasool-Allahsaww! So the Prophetsas, and the successorsas used to love himasws, and theiras enemies used to hate himasws?’ Heasws said: ‘Yes’. I said, ‘So how can that be?’ Heasws said: ‘But do you not know that the Prophetsaww said on the Day of Khyber: ‘Isaww shall be giving the flag tomorrow to a man who loves Allahazwj and Hisazwj Rasoolsaww, and Allahazwj and Hisazwj Rasoolsaww love himasws. Heasws would not return Allahazwj Grants himasws victory by hisasws hands’? So hesaww handed over the flag to Aliasws. Thus Allahazwj Granted victory by hisasws hands’. I said, ‘Yes’.

    قال: أما علمت ان رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله لما أتى بالطائر المشوي قال صلى هللا عليه وآله اللهم إئتني بأحب خلقك قلت بلى، -وعنى به عليا " ع " -اليك وإلي يأكل معي من هذا الطائر

    Heasws said: ‘But, do you know that when Rasool-Allahsaww was brought a grilled chicken, hesaww said: ‘O Allahazwj! Get the one most Beloved to Youazwj and to mesaww to come and eat with mesaww, from this bird’ – and hesaww meant Aliasws by it?’ I said, ‘Yes’.

    قال فهل يجوز أن ال يحب انبياء هللا ورسله واوصيائهم عليهم السالم رجال يحبه هللا ورسوله ويحب هللا ورسوله. فقلت له ال، قال: فهل يجوز ان يكون المؤمنون من اممهم ال يحبون حبيب هللا وحبيب رسوله، وانبيائه عليهم السالم؟ قلت ال،

    Heasws said: ‘So is it Permissible that the Prophetsas of Allahazwj, and theiras successorsas did not love a man who is Loved by Allahazwj and Hisazwj Rasoolsaww, and heasws loved Allahazwj and Hisazwj Rasoolsaww?’ So I said to himasws, ‘No’. So is it Permissible that the Believers who happened to be in theiras communities were not loving the Beloved one of Allahazwj, and a beloved one of Hisazwj Rasoolsas, and the Hisazwj Prophetsas?’ I said, ‘No’.

    تهم مبغضين، قلت نعم، قال: فال يدخل الجنة إالمن قال: فقد ثبت ان اعدائهم والمخالفين لهم كانوا لهم ولجميع أهل محب أحبه من االولين واآلخرين وال يدخل النار إال من أبغضه من االولين واآلخرين فهو إذن قسيم الجنة والنار.

    Heasws said: ‘It has thus been proved that theiras enemies and the adversaries, it would be that for them, and for the entirety of those that loved themas, and the hateful ones’. I said, ‘Yes’. Heasws said: ‘Therefore, none shall enter the Paradise except the one who loves himasws, from the former ones and the later ones; and none shall enter the Fire except the one who hates himasws, from the former ones and the later ones. Thus, then, heasws is the Distributor of the Paradise and the Fire’.

    فزدني مما علمك هللا، قال: سل يا مفضل فقلت قال المفضل بن عمر: فقلت له يابن رسول هللا فرجت عني فرج هللا عنك له يابن رسول هللا فعلي بن أبى طالب عليه السالم يدخل محبه الجنة ومبغضه النار؟ أو رضوان ومالك؟

    Al-Mufazzal Ibn Umar said, ‘So I said to himasws, ‘O sonasws of Rasool-Allahsaww! Relieve from me (the understanding of matters), may Allahazwj Relieve youasws’. Heasws said: ‘Ask, O Mufazzal!’ So I said to himasws, ‘O sonasws of Rasool-Allahsaww! So Aliasws would be entering those that love himasws into the Paradise, and those that hate himasws into the Fire? Or would it be Rizwaan and Maalik (the two Keepers)?’

    فقال يا مفضل أما علمت ان هللا تبارك وتعالى بعث رسول صلى هللا عليه وآله وهو روح إلى االنبياء عليهم السالم، وهم ه واتباع أمره ووعدهم الجنة على ذلك أرواح قبل خلق الخلق بالفي عام، قال: أما علمت انه دعاهم إلى توحيد هللا وطاعت

    واوعد من خالف ما اجابوا إليه وانكره النار قلت بلى

    So heasws said: ‘O Mufazzal! But, know that Allahazwj Blessed and High Sent Rasoolsaww to the Prophetsas, and hesaww was a spirit, and theyas were spirits, before the Creation of the creation by two thousand years. But know, that hesaww called themas to the Oneness of Allahazwj, and being obedient to Himazwj, and the following of Hisazwj Commands, and promised themas the Paradise upon that, and promised the ones who opposed and did not respond to themas, and rejected themas, (promised) the Fire’. I said, ‘Yes’.

    قال: أفليس النبي صلى هللا عليه وآله ضامنا لما وعد واوعد عن ربه عزوجل، قلت بلى قال: أو ليس علي بن ابى طالب ليفته وإمام امته؟ قلت بلى، قال: اوليس رضوان وملك من جملة المالئكة والمستغفرين لشيعته الناجين بمحبته؟ قلت بلى، خ

    قال: فعلي ابن ابى طالب إذن قسيم الجنة والنار عن رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله ورضوان ومالك صادران عن أمره بامر هللا تبارك وتعالى،

    Heasws said: ‘So, is not the Prophetsaww therefore responsible, when hesaww promised and promise on behalf of hissaww Lordazwj Mighty and Majestic?’ I said, ‘Yes’. Heasws said: ‘Or is not Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws hissaww Caliph and an Imamasws of hissaww community?’ I said, ‘Yes’. Heasws said: ‘Or are not Rizwan and Maalik (the two Keepers), from the totality of the Angels, and the seekers of Forgiveness for hisasws Shiah, the salvaged ones due to hisasws love?’ I said, ‘Yes’. Heasws said: ‘Therefore Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws is the Distributor of the Paradise and the Fire, from Rasool-Allahsaww, and Rizwan and Maalik (the two Keepers) are the implementers of hisasws orders by the Command of Allahazwj Blessed and High.

    مكنونه ال تخرجه إال إلى أهله.يا مفضل خذ هذا فإنه من مخزون العلم و

    O Mufazzal! Take this, for it is from the treasured knowledge, and conceal it. Do not bring it out (to anyone) except to the one who is deserving of it’.18

    My father said, ‘Sa’ad Bin Abdullah narrated to us, from Abdullah, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, and Abdullah Bin Aamir Bin Saeed, from Muhammad Bin Sinan, from Al Mufazzal Bin Umar,

    (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullahasws having said: ‘Amir Al-Momineenasws said: ‘Iasws am the Distributor of Allahazwj between the Paradise and the Fire, and Iasws am the Great Differentiator, and Iasws am the owner of the staff and the branding (‘He is a Believer and he is an Infidel’)’.19

    جل يقوم ملك عن يمينه وملك عن يساره فينادي الذي عن يمينه يقول: القيامة وضع منبر يراه جميع الخاليق يقف عليه ريا معشر الخاليق هذا علي بن ابى طالب صاحب الجنة يدخل الجنة من شاء، وينادي الذي عن يساره يا معشر الخاليق

    هذا على بن ابى طالب صاحب النار يدخلها من شاء.

    Muhammad Bin Al Hassan narrated to us, from Muhammad Bin Al Hassan Al Saffar, from Muhammad Bin Al Husayn Bin Abu Al Khataab, from Musa Bin Sa’dan, from Abdullah Bin Al Qasim Al Hazramy, from Sama’at Bin Mahran who said,

    ‘Abu Abdullahasws said: ‘When it will be the Day of Judgement, a Pulpit would be placed which the entirety of the creatures would see. A man would stand upon it, and an Angel would stand on the right of it, and an Angel would stand upon its left. So the one upon the right of it would call out: ‘O group of creatures! This is Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws, Owner of the Paradise, and heasws would be entering into the Paradise whoever heasws so desires to!’ And the one on the left of it would call out: ‘O group of creatures! This is Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws, Owner of the Fire, and heasws would be entering into the Paradise whoever heasws so desires to!’20

    بين الكواكب فال يبقى يومئذ نبي وال صديق وال شهيد إال قال: طوبى لمن كانت هذه الدرجة درجته، فينادى مناد يسمع النداء جميع النبيين والصديقين والشهداء والمؤمنين هذه درجة محمد.

    My father said, ‘Sa’ad Bin Abdullah narrated to us, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Ibn Isa, from Al Abbas Bin marouf, from Abdullah Bin Al Mugheira Al Khazaz, from Abu Hafs Al Abady, from Abu Haroun Al Abdy, from Abu Saeed Al Khudry who said,

    ‘The Prophetsaww was saying: ‘When you all supplicate to Allahazwj for mesaww, so ask Himazwj for the Means (الوسيلة)’. So we asked the Prophetsaww about the Means. So hesaww said: ‘It is mysaww Level in the Paradise, and it is of a thousand stepping stones. In between a stepping stone and a stepping stone would take a racing horse a month to travel. And in between a stepping stone and another stepping stone are links of Aquamarine, to another stepping stone of Sapphire, and to a stepping stone of gold, to a stepping stone of silver.

    So Isaww would be give it, on the Day of Judgement, until it is established with the Levels of the Prophetsas. So it would be among the Levels of the Prophets like the full moon is in between the stars. Thus, not a single Prophetsaww would remain on the Day, nor a Truthful, nor a Martyr, except that he would say: ‘Congratulations to the one for whom this Level is as a Level’. So a Caller would Call out which the entirety of the Prophetsas, and the Truthful, and the Martyrs, and the Believers would hear: ‘This is the Level of Muhammadsaww!’

    قال رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله فأقبل أنا يومئذ متزرا بريطة من نور على تاج الملك، واكليل الكرامة والمالئكة الكرام وعلي بن ابى طالب أمامى ولوائي بيده وهو لواء الحمد مكتوب عليه: )ال إله إال هللا المفلحون هم الفائزون باهلل(

    Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘So Isaww would come on that Day, wearing robes of Light and a royal crown upon mesaww, and a crown of dignity, flanked with the honourable Angels. And Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws would be in front of mesaww, and mysaww flag would be in hisasws hand, and it is the flag of Praise (لواء الحمد), upon which would be inscribed: ‘There is no god except for Allahazwj. The successful ones are the winners with Allahazwj’.

    فإذا مررنا بالنبيين قالوا ملكين مقربين، وإذا مررنا بالمالئكة قالوا هذان ملكان ولم نعرفهما ولم نرهما، وإذا مررنا بالمؤمنين قالوا هذان نبيان مرسالن حتى أعلو الدرجة وعلي يتبعني حتى إذا صرف في أعال درجة منها وعلي أسفل مني

    ال وصى وال مؤمن إال رفعوا رؤوسهم إلى يقولون طوبى لهذين العبدين ما بدرجة وبيده لوائى فال يبقى يومئذ نبي واكرمهما على هللا تعالى فيأتى النداء من عند هللا تعالى يسمع النبيون وجميع الخلق: هذا حبيبي محمد وهذا وليي علي

    طوبى لمن أحبه وويل لمن ابغضه وكذب عليه،

    So the Prophetsas would pass by usasws, so theyas would say: ‘These two are Angels of Proximity. And when the Angels pass by usasws, they would say: ‘These are two Angels whom we do not recognise, nor have we seen these two before. And when the Believers pass by usasws, they would say, ‘These are two Prophetsas, two Mursilsas’, until Isaww go a Level higher, and Aliasws would follow mesaww, and Isaww reach the highest Level, and Aliasws being a Level lower than minesaww, and in hisasws hand would be mysaww flag, so there would not remain on that Day, a single Prophetas, nor a successoras, nor a Believer, except that they would all raise their heads and would be saying: ‘Congratulations to these two servants. How prestigious are these two to Allahazwj’. So there would come the Call from the Presence of Allahazwj the High, which the Prophets and all the creatures would hear: “This is

    Myazwj Beloved Muhammadsaww, and this is hisas Guardian Aliasws! Congratulations to the one who loved himasws, and woe be unto the one who hated himasws and belied against himasws”.

    قال النبي صلى هللا عليه وآله لعلي عليه السالم يا علي فال يبقى يومئذ في مشهد القيامة احد يحبك إال استروح إلى هذا وجهه واضطربت الكالم وابيض وجهه وفرح قلبه وال يبقى احد ممن عاداك أو نصب لك حربا أو جحد لك حقا إال أسود

    قدماه،

    The Prophetsaww said to Aliasws: ‘O Aliasws! So there would not remain on that Day in the spectacle of the Day of Judgement, anyone who loves youasws except that he would be cheerful upon this speech, and his face would be whitened, and his heart would be joyful. And there would not remain anyone from yourasws enemies, or one who established a war against youasws, or fought against youasws of yourasws rights, except that his face would be blackened, and his legs would tremble’.

    ثم قال رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله فبينا أنا كذلك إذا ملكان قد اقبال إلي اما احدهما فرضوان خازن الجنة، وأما اآلخر ول هللا فارد عليه السالم، وأقول أيها الملك الطيب فمالك خازن النار فيدنو رضوان فيسلم علي فيقول السالم عليك يا رس

    الريح الحسن الوجه الكريم على ربه من أنت؟ فيقول انا رضوان خازن الجنة امرني ربى آتيك بمفاتيح الجنة فادفعها اليك لب فيدفعها إلى فخذها يا احمد فاقول قد قبلت ذلك من ربى فله الحمد على ما أنعم به علي فادفعها إلى أخي علي بن ابى طا

    علي ويرجع رضوان

    Then Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘So during that, two Angels would come forward towards mesaww. As for one of the two, so it would be Rizwan, the Keeper of the Paradise, and as for the other, so it would be Malik, the Keeper of the Fire. So Rziwan would approach and greet mesaww, and he would be saying: ‘Peace be upon yousaww, O Rasool-Allahsaww’. So Isaww would greet him in return, and Isaww would be saying: ‘O you Angel! With such aromatic fragrance and beauty of the face, prestigious to his Lordazwj, who are you?’ So he would be saying: ‘I am Rizwan, Keeper of the Paradise. My Lordazwj Commands me that I should give yousaww the keys of the Paradise, and hand these over to yousaww. So take these, O Ahmadsaww!’ So Isaww would say, ‘Isaww accept that from mysaww Lordazwj. For Himazwj is the Praise upon what He azwj has Favoured mesaww with. Hand over these over to mysaww brother Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws’. So he would hand these over to Aliasws, and Rizwan would return.

    ثم يدنو مالك فيقول السالم عليك يا احمد فاقول السالم عليك ايها الملك ما أنكر رؤيتك وأقبح وجهك من أنت؟ فيقول: انا مالك خازن النار امرني ربى ان آتيك بمقاليد النار، فاقول قد قبلت ذلك من ربي فله الحمد على ما فضلني به، ادفعها الى

    أبي طالب فيدفعها إليه، ثم يرجع مالك أخي علي ابن

    Then Malik would approach, so he would say: ‘Peace be upon yousaww, O Ahmadsaww!’ So Isaww would say: ‘And Peace be upon you, O Angel! How harsh is your appearance, and how threatening is your face, who are you?’ So he would say: ‘I am Malik, the Keeper of the Fire. My Lordazwj Commands me that I should come to yousaww with the shackles of the Fire’. So Isaww would say: ‘I have accepted that from mysaww Lordazwj. For Himazwj is the Praise upon what Heazwj has Graced mesaww with. Hand these over to mysaww brother Aliasws Ibn Abu Talibasws’. So he would hand these over to himasws. Then Malik would return.

    فيقبل علي ومعه مفاتيح الجنة ومقاليد النار حتى يقف على عجزة جهنم فيأخذ زمامها بيده وقد عال زفيرها واشتد حرها وتطاير شررها فتنادي جهنم جزنى يا علي فقد أطفأ نورك لهبي فيقول لها علي: قري يا جهنم خذي هذا واتركى هذا،

    خذي هذا عدوي واتركى هذا وليى،

    So Aliasws would go across, and with himasws would be the keys of the Paradise and the shackles of the Fire, until heasws pauses upon the brink of Hell. So heasws would grab its reins by hisasws hand, and its exhalation would be high, and its heat would be intense, and its flames would be flying out. So Hell would call out: ‘Be far from me, for yourasws Light is extinguishing my flames’. So Aliasws would be saying to it: ‘Calm down, O Hell! Take this one and leave this one. Take this enemy of mineasws, and leave this friend of mineasws’.

    فلجهنم يومئذ اشد مطاوعة لعلي من غالم احدكم لصاحبه فان شاء يذهبها يمنة، وان شاء يذهبها يسرة، ولجهنم يومئذ اشد مطاوعة لعلي فيما يأمرها به من جميع الخاليق.

    So, on that Day, hell would be more obedient to Aliasws than a slave of yours would be to his master. So if heasws so desires, it would make him go rightwards, or if heasws so desires, it would make him go leftwards. And on that Day, Hell would be more obedient to Aliasws with regards to heasws orders it with, than the entirety of the creatures’.22

    Chapter 131 – The reason due to which Rasool-Allahsaww bequeathed to Aliasws besides others

    Muhammad Bin Ali Majaylawiya narrated to us, from Muhammad Bin Yahya Al Ataar, from Sahl Bin Ziyad Al Admy, from Muhammad Bin Al Waleed Al Sayrafi, from Aban Bin Usman,

    بن زياد اآلدمي قال: حدثنا محمد بن على ماجيلويه رضى هللا عنه قال: حدثنا محمد بن يحيى العطار قال: حدثنا سهل حدثنا محمد بن الوليد الصيرفي، عن ابان بن عثمان، عن ابى عبد هللا عليه السالم عن ابيه عن جده عليهما السالم قال: لما حضرت رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله الوفاة دعا العباس بن عبد المطلب وأمير المؤمنين علي ابن ابى طالب عليه

    يا عم محمد، تأخذ تراث محمد وتقضي دينه وتنجز عداته؟ فرد عليه وقال: يارسول هللا صلى هللا السالم فقال للعباس: عليه وآله انا شيخ كبير كثير العيال قليل المال من يطيقك وأنت تباري الريح،

    (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullahasws, from hisasws fatherasws, from hisasws grandfatherasws having said: ‘When death approached Rasool-Allahsaww, hesaww called Al-Abbas Bin Abdul Muttalib and Amir Al-Momineen Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws. So hesaww said to Al-Abbas: ‘O uncle of Muhammadsaww! Will you take the inheritance of Muhammadsaww, and fulfil hissaww debts and fulfil hissaww promises made?’ So he responded to himsaww and said: ‘O Rasool-Allahsaww! I am old of age, lot of family, and little wealth. Who can endure yousaww, and yousaww are even generous to the winds passing by’.

    قال فاطرق صلى هللا عليه وآله هنيئة قال يا عباس اتأخذ تراث رسول هللا وتنجز عداته وتؤدي دينه؟ فقال بأبي أنت وامى انا شيخ كبير كثير العيال قليل المال من يطيقك وأنت تباري الريح،

    Heasws said: ‘So hesaww patted him and blessed, and said (again): ‘O Abbas! Will you take the inheritance of Rasool-Allahsaww, and fulfil hissaww promises made, and pay off hissaww debts?’ So he said, ‘May my father and my mother be sacrificed for yousaww! I am old of age, lot of family, and little wealth. Who can endure yousaww, and yousaww are even generous to the winds passing by’.

    فقال رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله اما انى سأعطيها من يأخذ بحقها، ثم قال: يا علي يا اخا محمد أتنجز عداة محمد وتقضي دينه وتأخذ تراثه؟ قال: نعم بأبي أنت وأمي،

    So Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘But, Isaww will give it to the one who is deserving of it’. Then hesaww said: ‘O Aliasws! O brother of Muhammadsaww! Will youasws fulfill the promises made by Muhammadsaww, and pay off hissaww debts, and take hissaww inheritance?’ Heasws said: ‘Yes, may myasws fatheras and myasws motheras be sacrificed for yousaww’.

    قال فنظرت إليه حتى نزع خاتمه من اصبعه فقال تختم بهذا في حياتي، قال: فنظرت إلى الخاتم حين وضعه علي " ع " ار وعمامتي في إصبعه اليمنى فصاح رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله يا بالل علي بالمغفر والدرع والراية وسيفي ذي الفق

    كادت تخطف -يعني االبرقة -السحاب والبرد واالبرقة والقضيب )يقال له: الممشوق( فوهللا ما رأيتها قبل ساعتي تيك اجعلها في حلقة الدرع واستوفر بها فقال يا علي: ان جبرئيل اتانى بها فقال يا محمدالجنة، ابرق االبصار فإذا هي من

    مكان المنطقة،

    Heasws said: ‘So hesaww looked at himasws until hesaww removed hissaww ring from hissaww finger, so hesaww said: ‘Wear this ring during mysaww lifetime’. Heasws said: ‘So hesaww looked at the ring when Aliasws put it on hisasws right fingers, and cried out: ‘O Bilal! Bring to mesaww the helmet, and the shield, and the flag, and mysaww sword Zulfiqar, and mysaww turban ‘Al-Sahaab, and the cloak, and the belt, and the walking stick (called Al-Mamshouq), for by Allahazwj! Isaww have not seen during mysaww time a thing’ – meaning the belt – ‘which almost snatches the vision away, for it is from the pitchers of the Paradise’. Then hesaww said: ‘O Aliasws! Jibraeelas came to me aww with it, so heas said: ‘O Muhammadsaww! Make it to be in a ring of the shield, and wear it around yourasws waist’.

    ثم دعا بزوجي نعال عربيين احدهما: مخصوفة واالخرى غير مخصوفة، والقميص الذي اسرى به فيه، والقميص الذي خرج فيه يوم )أحد( والقالنس الثالث: قلنسوة السفر وقلنسوة العيدين وقلنسوة كان يلبسها ويقعد مع أصحابه، ثم قال

    هللا عليه وآله يا بالل علي بالبغتلين: الشهباء والدلدل، والناقتين: العضباء والصهباء، والفرسين: الجناح رسول هللا صلىالذي كان يوقف بباب مسجد رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله لحوايج الناس، يبعث رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله الرجل في

    والحمار اليعفور، حاجة فيركبه، وحيزوم وهو الذي يقول اقدم حيزوم

    Then hesaww called for a pair of slippers, one of which was sewn and the other was un-sewn; and the shirt which hesaww had worn during the Ascension, and the shirt with which hesaww had come out on the Day of Ohad, and the three hoods – a hood for the travel, and a hood for the two Eids, and a hood which hesaww used to wear whenever hesaww was seated with hissaww companions. Then Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘O Bilal! Come to me with the two mules – Al Shahba’a and Al Dul Dul; and the two camels – Al Azba’a, and Al Sahba’a; and the two horses – Al Janaaah which used to be paused at the door of the Masjid of Rasool-Allahsaww for the needs of the people, whenever Rasool-Allahsaww used to send the man during a need, so he would ride it, and Heyzoum to which hesaww used to say: ‘Com forward Heyzoum!’; and the donkey Al Yafour’.

    ثم قال: يا علي اقبضها في حياتي ال ينازعك فيها أحد بعدي.

    Then hesaww said: ‘O Aliasws! Take control of these during mysaww lifetime, and let no one snatch it away from youasws after mesaww’.

    ثم قال أبو عبد هللا " ع " ان أول شئ مات من الدواب حماره اليعفور توفي ساعة قبض رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله قطع خطامه، ثم مر يركض حتى وافى بئر بنى حطمه بقبا فرمى بنفسه فيها فكانت قبره

    Then Abu Abdullahasws said: ‘The first thing which died from the animals was hissaww donkey Al Yafour which died at the time Rasool-Allahsaww passed away. It cut off its halter, then ran over to the well of Hatma at Quba and smashed itself against it and fell down into it. So that was its grave’.

    ثم قال أبو عبد هللا " ع ": ان يعفور كلم رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله فقال: بأبي أنت وأمي ان ابي حدثني عن أبيه عن لحمار جده: انه كان مع نوح في السفينة فنظر إليه يوما نوح " ع " ومسح يده على وجهه، ثم قال: يخرج من صلب هذا ا

    حمار يركبه سيد النبيين وخاتمهم والحمد هلل الذي جعلني ذلك الحمار.

    Then Abu Abdullahasws said: ‘Yafour had spoken to Rasool-Allahsaww saying, ‘May my father and my mother be sacrificed for yousaww! My father used to narrate to me, from his father, from his grandfather that he was with Noahas in the ship. So, one day Noahas looked at him and wiped hisas hand upon his face, then said: ‘There will be coming out from the back of this donkey, a donkey upon which the Chief of the Prophetsas, and theiras Seal’.     حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد هللا عن احمد ابن محمد بن عيسى، عن محمد بن خالد، عن إبراهيم بن إسحاق االزدي، عن أبيه قال: أتيت االعمش سليمان بن مهران أسأله عن وصية رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله

    يته فحدثني عن زيد بن علي " ع " فقال: لما حضرت رسول هللا صلى هللا فقال: إيت محمد ابن عبد هللا فاسأله، قال: فاتعليه وآله الوفاة ورأسه في حجر علي " ع " والبيت غاص بمن فيه من المهاجرين واالنصار والعباس قاعد قدامه، قال

    ؤ كبير السن كثير رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله يا عباس أتقبل وصيتي وتقضى ديني وتنجز موعدي؟ فقال: انى امر العيال المال لي فاعادها عليه ثالثا كل ذلك يردها عليه،

    Muhammad Bin Musa Bin Al Mutawakkal narrated to us, from Sa’ad Bin Abdullah, from Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Bin Isa, from Muhammad Bin Khalid, from Ibrahim Bin Is’haq Al Azady, from his father who said,

    ‘I came over to Al-Amsh Suleyman Bin Mahran to ask him about the bequest of Rasool-Allahsaww, so he said, ‘Go to Muhammad Bin Abdullah and ask him’. So I went over to him, so he narrated to me from Zayd son of Aliasws, so he said, ‘When death presented itself to Rasool-Allahsaww, and hissaww head was in the lap of Aliasws, and the house was full up with the ones who were in it from the Emigrants and the Helpers, and Al-Abbas was seated at hissaww feet. Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘O Abbas! Do you accept mysaww bequest and to pay off mysaww debts, and fulfill myas promises made?’ So he said, ‘I am a person of old age, with a large family with no wealth to me’. So hesaww repeated it three times to him, and for each of that, that was his response.

    So Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘Isaww shall give it to a man who would take it rightfully, and would not be saying what you are saying’. Then hesaww said: ‘O Aliasws! Do youasws accept mysaww bequest, and to pay off mysaww debts, and fulfill mysaww promises made?’

    ع ان يجيبه ولقد رأى رأس رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله يذهب ويجئ في حجره، ثم اعاد قال: فخنقته العبرة ولم يستط عليه، فقال له علي " ع " نعم بأبي أنت وأمي يارسول هللا،

    Heasws said: ‘So the grief choked himasws and heasws could not answer himsaww, and heasws saw the head of Rasool-Allahsaww, going and coming (falling unconscious and waking up intermittently) in hisasws lap. Then hesaww repeated to himasws, so Aliasws said to himsaww: ‘Yes, may myasws fatheras and myasws motheras be sacrificed for yousaww, O Rasool-Allahsaww!

    فقال يا بالل: إيت بدرع رسول هللا فأتى بها ثم قال يا بالل: إيت براية رسول هللا فأتى بها، ثم قال يا بالل: إيت ببغلة رسول هللا بسرجها ولجامها فأتى بها، ثم قال يا علي قم فاقبض هذا بشهادة من في البيت من المهاجرين واالنصار كي ال

    ينازعك فيه أحد من بعدي،

    So hesaww said: ‘O Bilal! Bring the shield of Rasool-Allahsaww! So he came up with. Then hesaww said: ‘Bring the flag of Rasool-Allahsaww’. So he came with it. Then hesaww said: ‘O Bilal! Bring the mule of Rasool-Allahsaww along with its saddle and its bridle’. So he came with it. Then hesaww said: ‘O Aliasws! Arise, and take (control of) these in the sight of the ones in the house, from the Emigrants and the Helpers, so that no one should snatch these away from youasws from after mesaww’.

    ذلك حتى استودع جميع ذلك في منزله ثم رجع. قال: فقام علي " ع " وحمل

    He (the narrator) said: ‘So Aliasws arose, and carried those until entrusted all of that in hisasws house, then returned’.24

    Then hesaww said: ‘O Aliasws! Do youasws accept mysaww bequest, and pay off mysaww debts, and fulfill mysaww promises made?’ He (the narrator) said, ‘So the grief choked himasws. Then hesaww repeated it to himasws, so Aliasws said: ‘Yes, O Rasool-Allahsaww!’ So hesaww said: ‘O Bilal! Bring the shild of Rasool-Allahsaww!’ So he came with it. Then hesaww said: ‘O Bilal! (Bring) the sword of Rasool-Allahsaww!’ So he came with it. Then hesaww said: ‘Bring the flag of Rasool-Allahsaww’. So he came with it. Hesaww even got him to bring the belt which hesaww used to wear around hissaww waist during the wars, so he came with it.

    ثم قال يا بالل: إيت ببغلة رسول هللا بسرجها ولجامها فاتى بها، ثم قال لعلي قم فاقبض هذا بشهادة من هنا من المهاجرين واالنصار حتى ال ينازعك فيه أحد من بعدي،

    Then hesaww said: ‘O Bilal! Bring the mule of Rasool-Allahsaww along with its saddle and its bridle’. So he came with it. Then hesaww said to Aliasws: ‘Arise, and take (control of) these in the sight of the ones who are here, from the Emigrants and the Helpers, so that no one would snatch these from youasws from after mesaww’.

    قال فقام علي " ع " وحمل ذلك حتى استودعه منزله ثم رجع.

    He (the narrator) said, ‘So Aliasws arose, and carried that until heasws entrusted these in hisasws house, then returned’.25

    Chapter 133 – The reason due to which Aliasws inherited from Rasool-Allahsaww among others

    Muhammad Bin Ibrahim Bin Is’haq Al Talaqany narrated to us, from Abdul Aziz Bin Yahya Al Jaloudy at Al Basra, from Muhammad Bin Zakariyya, from Abdul Wahid Ibn Gayas, Abu Abaya, from Amro Bin Al Mugheira, from Abu Sadiq, from Rabi’e Ibn Najad that,

    محمد بن إبراهيم بن اسحاق الطالقاني رحمه هللا قال: حدثني عبد العزيز بن يحيى الجلودي بالبصرة قال حدثنا حدثنا محمد بن زكريا قال حدثنا عبد الواحد ابن غياث قال: حدثنا أبو عباية، عن عمرو بن المغيرة، عن ابى صادق، عن ربيعة

    المؤمنين بما ورثت ابن عمك دون عمك؟ فقال: يا معشر الناس، فافتحوا ابن ناجد، ان رجال قال لعلي عليه السالم يا أمير آذانكم واستمعوا. فقال عليه السالم جمعنا رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله بني عبد المطلب في بيت رجل منا أوقال: اكبرنا.

    ‘A man said to Aliasws, ‘O Amir Al-Momineenasws! By what reason did youasws inherit yourasws cousinsaww, besides yourasws uncle?’ So heasws said: ‘O group of people! Unblock your ears and listen carefully!’ So heasws said: ‘Rasool-Allahsaww gathered us, the Clan of Abd Al-Muttalibas, in a house of a man from us’ – or said: ‘An elderly one of us’.

    فدعا بمد ونصف من طعام وقدح له يقال له الغمر فاكلنا وشربنا وبقى الطعام كما هو والشراب كما هو وفينا من ياكل الجذعة ويشرب الفرق فقال رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وآله ان قد ترون هذه فايكم يبايعني على انه اخي ووارثى ووصيي؟

    وم وقلت أنا، قال اجلس، ثم قال ذلك ثالث مرات، كل ذلك اقوم إليه فيقول: اجلس، حتى كان فقمت إليه وكنت اصغر الق في الثالثة: فضرب بيده على يدي فبذلك ورثت ابن عمي دون عمي.

    So hesaww called for a Mudd and a half of food in a bowl of hissaww called Al-Ghamr. So we ate and drank, and the food still remained as it was before, and the drink remained just as it was before, and among us were ones who used to eat a whole animal, and drink a pail (bucket) of water. So, Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘Have you been seeing this? So which one of you would pledge his allegiance to mesaww upon that he would be mysaww brother, and mysaww inheritor, and mysaww successor?’ So Iasws stood up, and Iasws was the smallest (in age) of the people, and Iasws said: ‘Iasws will!’ Hesaww said: ‘Be seated!’ Then hesaww said that three times, and for each of that, Iasws stood up, hesaww was saying: ‘Be seated!’, to the extent that d
