Getting to Know You...
1. When and where did you start your career? I graduated from college in May of 1994. The following year I would substitute sporadically; mostly middle school. The following September I began teaching kindergarten at Brookside! I've been teaching Kindergarten here ever since! It was funny, the principal at the time that interviewed me for the job used to be my 5th grade teacher! At the interview he said, "WOW! I haven't seen you since you were ten years old!" He called me the following day and oered me the job. I'll never forget... He said, "Jennifer! You said you love kids; how would you like 20 of them!?!? I was jumping for joy! 2. What is your most favorite part of the job? I absolutely love when a parent tells me that their child loves school or to see the kids walk through the door every morning with happy little faces! Kindergarten is a child's rst experience in "real school" and I love that I get to be the one to give them that rst impression. I love the hugs at the end of each day! A little boy said to me just the other day how much he loved school; I could seriously be teaching for 50 years and will always smile when hearing that! 3. Tell us one thing about yourself that we wouldn't expect to know. Okay this is funny..... My all-time favorite thing to do is spend the summer in Myrtle Beach, S.C. We spend most of our time either at the beach or by the pool. Ironically, I can't swim and I am terried of the water! I NEVER go in the water past my knees and I have never gone underwater in my life. 4. If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be? A huge cheeseburger; well done, French fries, and nachos. I also love Starbucks!!! 5. What did you want to be when you were small? When I was little I wanted to be a rst grade teacher; I thought my rst grade teacher was awesome! She always wore high heels and red lipstick and I remember begging my mother to buy me high heels and red lipstick so I could be just like her! She also had one of those pens with all the dierent colors and I remember her letting us choose what color smiley face she would put on our homework with that pen! 6. What is THAT song that you must sing at the top of your lungs? I absolutely love Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line so I would say "Rollercoaster" and ‘Play It Again” by Luke Bryan and H.O.L.Y by Florida Georgia Line. But I must say that "Livin' On A Prayer" by Bon Jovi will always be one of my all-time favorites! 7. What are 3 things on your bucket list? * To see the Northern lights * To vacation in Hawaii * To build a HUGE house in South Carolina 8. What gives you inspiration? Oh, so easy! My family! My family is my everything, they are my pride and joy. I am married with 4 children; a 22 year old son, a 16 year old daughter, and 12 year old twin girls. I feel like I hit the jackpot; we got our boy, we got our girl, and we have twins... what could be better!?!? Absolutely everything I do is for my family. My happiest moments are when we are all home, ordering take-out, talking, and laughing! It's important to take time to spend quality time alone too; I'll knock on my daughters door, at 8 AM on a Sunday and say, "Come on, we're going out to breakfast… just you and me." Or tag along with my son while he goes to pick up his dry cleaning and get a haircut just so we have alone time to talk. I beam with pride when I talk about my family; my husband and I have been together forever and he is my best friend and the greatest father. I am so lucky!
1. When and where did you start your teaching career? I started 17 years ago as a Teaching Assistant at Brookside School (1999.) When my youngest started kindergar- ten, I went with him! I became the Media Specialist in 2010. Prior to that I had a day care in my home for 11 years. 2. What is your most favorite part of your job? The most favorite part of my job is when the students erupt in applause when I’m done reading a story and then chant “read it again!” 3. Tell us one thing about yourself that we wouldn’t expect to know? One thing you probably don’t know about me is that I have 4 brothers and 4 sisters; 25 nieces and nephews, and 12 great nieces and nephews. And that’s just my side of the family! 4. If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Sheppard’s Pie! Any day… 5. What did you want to be when you were small? I always wanted to be a teacher. When I was small my sisters and I played “school” and I always corrected the papers! 6. When listening to the radio or music, when you hear it, what is THAT song that you feel you MUST sing at the top of your lungs? I don’t really have THAT song in my head. I love all music; especially Irish music, Country music, Oldies, and Rock and Roll! 7. What are three things still left on your bucket list? One of the things on my bucket list is to visit Ireland; another is to learn how to play the piano, and I’d also like to retire and spend more time with my granddaughter Everly! 8. What gives you inspiration? Being near water (lake or ocean) calms me and makes me feel at peace.
