October 30—Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time We are called to be good stewards of our personal vocations. St. Paul’s prayer for the Thessalonians is therefore ours, too—”that our God may make us worthy of his calling and powerfully bring to fulfillment every good purpose and eve-ry effort of faith”

STEWARDSHIP IN ACTION

“Giving is more than a responsibility—it is a privilege; more than an act of obedience—it is evidence of our faith.” William Arthur Ward

“God calls all the souls he has created to love him with their whole being … which means that he calls them to holiness, to perfection, to a close following of him and obedience to his will. But he does not ask all souls to climb to heaven by the same ladder … What sort of

work, then, must I do? Which is my road to heaven? In what kind of life am I to sanctify myself?” Blessed Charles de Foucald

How’s Your Prayer Life? For many of us prayer becomes a source of frustration as we struggle to calm our minds and find even a few minutes to set aside to pray. In our busy lives prayer is seen as a luxury, when in reality it is at the foundation of a healthy spiritual life. The OREMUS (“Let us pray...”) Catholic study series (DVD) teaches the es-sentials of an effective and fruitful prayer life where you will learn how to express yourself to God in prayer, and how to listen to hear God’s voice. This series will be offered by St. Joseph Parish at Otis Orchards Elementary on Sun. mornings during Religious Education classes from 9:15–10:15 am. In 2016, we’ll meet on Nov 6 & 13 and Dec 4 & 11. The series will continue into 2017. All adults and older youth are welcome!! Please email Teresa [email protected] or call 926-7133 for more information.

Presenter: Rev. Steven Dublinski, Nov 12, 10am – 12 noon, St. Augustine Parish, 428 W 19th Ave, Spokane Donations will be accepted. To register, please email Father Dublinski at [email protected]

Starting Dec 30, 2016 the Second Typical Edition of the Or-der of Celebrating Matrimony will replace the Rite of Mar-riage throughout the United States. Four specific changes effect the music during the ceremony: The Gloria will almost always be said or sung at the Mass, there is a new acclama-tion after the Reception of Consent, a canticle of praise may be sung after the Blessing and Giving of Rings and the Nup-tial Blessing now is notated for chant. In this workshop we will review the musical opportunities in the new rite and share ideas about what the best practices may be.
