STAROOT VACANCIES

STAROOT JOURNAL TEAM:

Visited On the 16th of October, the Germiston Hall was filled with women who came from

many organizations in Ekurhuleni.

Andrew kaliatis from the Centre for Municipal Research explained the purpose of this meeting was to have a data base of all the organizations within the city. He further took us through a slide presentation that ex-plained the objectives of the newly formed Municipal Barometer that is meant to help everyone who needs information about their community or municipality. Marthe Muller from SAWID was the main speaker of the day and had a lot to say when it came to women development, teen-age pregnancy and abuse of women.

This was a Policy Dialogue that was divided in two groups: civil society and business group, that discussed two main questions; - Khanyisile Buthelezi

1. - What are the three most burn-ing issues in the municipality which business civil society and the municipality can solve together? 2. - What are the recommended actions for solving these problems? The dialogues lasted for thirty long minutes and many complaints were written down so that they can be taken up to the relevant people.

“How are you doing? I’m doing good on my way to greatness.”

The Staroot team was invited to attend a business semi-nar on Saturday the 17th of October at Orion House in Johannesburg. The seminar was hosted by the MHI Leadership Firm, a group of intelligent young people

who motivate and help other young people in recognizing their strengths and talents. This seminar was labeled ‘The School of Influence’ and a lot was taught about how influence has the power to redirect ones life. When we walked in, Maluleke Hlulani was the speaker. This young energy filled, Intelligent, exuberant good looking business man owned the platform and kept the crowed figuratively on their toes, while sitting on their chairs. He took us on an exciting roller coaster of intellectual terminology that left us flabbergasted for days on end; even I don’t think I’ve lived to hear that much of bombastic words through out my career. Maluleke spoke mainly about the power of Influence. These were some of the points that he touched on:-

Influence does not come genetically.• Creditability – Influence does not constitute right. e.g. The

constitution does not guarantee influence • The Government does not guarantee equal opportunity but

equal privileges. • No man has ever defined the limit of Influence. • Influence is a force with unlimited power.• A man can be awarded equal certificates because of influ-

ence by the society, but has no equal capabilities. • A man is now measured by level of influence, not by the

qualifications they have.• Types of Influences: • External – human behavior – it has the capability to affect

human behaviour. • Direct and Indirect. • Circumstantial Evidence – people can not see what

you have been through, issues with self esteem, etc.

• Work space and work place – if you can conquer the work

place then the work space is guaranteed.

• History Subject: why can’t we all study the history subject as a must, for consistency and rest assured that success is predictable. We study the behaviour and habbits of success-ful people then we will be successful.

• We over estimate what can be done in a week and under estimate what can be done in a decade

• Beliefs: more dangerous than freedom. • Most difficult task is to change a pattern of a former slave.

Self elevation: talents one must use his talents to become a better person and must not burry it.

Maluleke didn’t forget to thank the other speakers that also shared the platform, he also thanked the people who contributed to he’s way up, but for the cherry on top he called Pastor Tumelo Molefe (who he refers to as he’s father) to the front to give a few words of wisdom and like wise after the few words of encouragement all I could say about the man is that He must really be a true reflec-tion of his ministry, the whole congregation must be as wise and humble as he is. Amen. Maluleke ended the show with an important message that

“Don’t stay the way you came… change your direction to change your transactions”. “Tough times never last but tough people do!!!” “Many people are not destroyed by what they eat but destroyed by what is eating them!!”

The next session in Johannesburg will be on the 31st of January 2016 and their last session this year will be in Limpopo on the 1st of November 2015.

For more information on how to be part of the audience or be a partner as they are open for that as well contact: 078 869 2009 or Staroot Journal on 083 3699 197.

[email protected] 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children

is an international awareness-raising campaign. It takes place every year from 25 November to 10 December The period includes Univer-

sal Children’s Day and World AIDS Day.

South Africa adopted the campaign in 1998 as one of the intervention strategies towards creating a society free of violence. The campaign continues to raise awareness amongst South Africans about the negative impact of violence against women

and children (VAW&C) on all members of the community.

The objectives of the 16 Days Campaign are to:• Attract all South Africans to be active participants in the fight to eradicate VAW&C; hence the theme:

• Expand accountability beyond the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) cluster to include all government clusters and provinces.

• Combine technology, social media, the arts, journalism, religion, culture and customs, business and activism to draw attention to the many ways VAW&C affects the lives of all people in all communities around the world.

• Ensure mass mobilisation of all communities to promote collective responsibility in the fight to eradicate violence against women and children.

• Encourage society to acknowledge that violence against women and children is NOT a government or criminal justice system problem, but a societal problem, and that failure to view it as such results in all efforts failing to eradicate this scourge in our

communities.• Emphasise the fact that the solution lies with all of us
