Living Stewardship Now Pick a ministry that really appeals to you. If training is not provided, ask the leaders to help you get up to speed. Decide to serve for at least one year, and serve that year faithfully.

ON THE ROAD From the time they were called by Jesus, the disciples watched him at work. We hear today that Jesus sent them out to do this same work, but with special instructions. First, travel in twos. Second, wear stout sandals but travel without baggage. Third, accept whatever accommodation is offered. Finally, don’t pressure the unwilling, but move on. So ready or not, willing or not, they set off in teams to heal, forgive, and teach. As disciples ourselves, we do better work in a team. Private devotions and Bible reading are all good for our spiritual life, but our faith only flowers when we share it in the community. Some parish ministries serve parishioners—ministries of the altar, wedding and bereavement ministries, and religious faith formation. Others serve the wider community—RCIA, returning Catholics, evangelization, the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, community blood drives, Habitat for Humanity. Join a ministry and live a fuller life!

DE CAMINO Los discípulos vieron las obras de Jesús desde el principio que él los llamara. Hoy escuchamos que Jesús los envió a hacer lo mismo, pero les dio ciertas instrucciones. Primero, que fueran en dúo. Segundo, que llevaran puestas sandalias pero sin equipaje. Tercero, que aceptaran cualquier alojamiento que se les ofreciera. Y finalmente, que no forzaran a nadie que no los recibiera, sino que siguieran su camino. Y así, aunque no se hubieran sentido preparados o dispuestos salieron en dúos para curar, perdonar y enseñar. Nosotros los discípulos de hoy hacemos mejor trabajo en grupos. Las devociones privadas y la lectura de la Biblia son prácticas buenas para nuestra vida espiritual, pero nuestra fe sólo florece cuando se comparte con la comunidad. Algunos ministerios parroquiales existen para servir a los parroquianos, como los acólitos, la preparación al matrimonio, el ministerio de consolación y la formación religiosa. Otros van más allá de la parroquia, como el RICA, la atención a los católicos que regresan, la evangelización, la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl, la donación de sangre y Habitat for Humanity. ¡Únete a un ministerio y goza de una vida más realizada!

On July 4th we celebrated the Independence of our (new) country. For all of us living in this here and now, we all realize there is much to do by everyone to make this country ideal, where everyone feels part of the community. Together we share in the dream of freedom, together we pledge to promote harmony and peace, working together that all might experience what our founders dreamed “that, under God, all are created with the same dignity, with the same rights and responsibilities.” May God bless us, as together, we create a homeland where everyone enjoys all the opportunities and where all contribute to make our homeland a safe place to raise our families. God bless us and our (new) homeland!

Nuestro reto este verano-----ZERO CHISMES! Soy una persona de paz y armonía? O, con mi lengua, fomento la discordia, destruyo la paz?

Soy la persona chismosa de la plaza publica o la chismosa en la comunidad de fe? El Papa aseguró que “si hemos recibido el signo de la paz con la fuerza del Espíritu Santo, tenemos que ser hombres y mujeres de paz, y no destruir, con la lengua, la paz que ha hecho el Espíritu.

“Piénsenlo bien: el chisme no es una obra del Espíritu Santo, no es una obra de la unidad de la Iglesia. El chismorreo destruye lo que Dios hace. ¡Por favor, acabemos con el chismorreo!”, pidió el Santo Padre a los miles de fieles que participaron de la Audiencia el 6 de junio.

“La paz es un regalo que puede ser fácilmente destruido a través de pequeños chismes y hablando mal de los demás, dijo el Papa Francisco. "El chisme es la guerra", continúa Francis, "¡Pobre Espíritu Santo! (¡Imagínese) el trabajo que tiene con nosotros con nuestro hábito de chismear! "El Papa Francisco nos urge a" predicar el Evangelio con hechos y palabras "que edifican”. No a palabras chismosas que destruyen.

Our summer challenge----ZERO GOSSIP! Am I a person of peace and harmony? Or, with my tongue, do I create discord, wreck peace?

Am I gossipy person on the street? Or, even within the community of faith? “People who receive and give the sign of peace "should be men and women of peace" and not ruin " with your tongue, the peace made by the Holy Spirit," Pope Francis said June 6 during his weekly general audience.

Think about it: "Gossip is not a work of the Holy Spirit, it is not a work of the unity of the church. Gossip destroys the work of God. Please stop gossiping," the pope urged.

Peace is a gift that can easily be destroyed through petty gossip and speaking ill of others, Pope Francis said. “Gossip is war," Francis continues; "Poor Holy Spirit! (Imagine) the work he has with us with our habit of gossiping!" Pope Francis urges us “to preach the Gospel with deeds and words "that edify and build” and never use gossip-words that destroy.

St. James reminds us that the person who can control their tongue is a holy person!
