    History

    Tata Motors is Indias owns the largest independentcompany in India.

    The company was established in 1945 as alocomotive manufacturing unit.

    In 1954 collaboration with Daimler-Benz andmanufactured its first commercial vehicle.

    Mercedes and Tata teamed up to create a truck line. First major business deal with another firm.

    On night of 23rd Aug, 2003

    Rattan Tata saw a youngcouple with their twochildren on two-wheelerand was struck byenormous risks of riding ona wet road.

    The quest of making two-wheeler safe gave rise to the

    idea of making car whichevery middle class can buy.

    And that idea lead to the birthof NANO.

    On January 10, 2008 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi the most. hyped car of the world finally was finally shown. It got the rock.. star entry with overwhelming crowd.

    Nano Plant

    Tata Group chairman RATAN TATA and West Bengal CMBUDDHADEB BHATTACHARJEE jointly announce the planfor the NANO PLANT.

    The state had acquired 997.11 acres of farmland for the small carproject, saying it was for a public purpose.

    Six hundred and ninety-two acres had been acquired by paying Rs119 crore and later nearly 305.3 acres were acquired onSeptember 25, 2006 by paying 10 per cent enhanced amount ofRs 56.94 crore.

    The choice of Singur was made by the company among six sitesoffered by the state government.

    Singur railway station is 34 km from Howrah

    She believed that out of the 997 acres of land acquiredfor the project, 400 acres had been illegally andforcibly wrenched from the farmers. She, therefore,wanted that land to be returned to the farmers.

    She said that she was fighting for the rights of thefarmers. 2,000 out of the 12,000 farmers whose landhad been acquired for the project, supported her

    claim.

    Tata Motors decided to set up the mother plantin the State of Gujarat due to proximity tomajor ports like Mundra and cities like Rajkot

    where 30% of Nano's components aremanufactured and the proposed plant site isfully owned by the Government.

    Gujarat state is also known for Gujarati's positive

    attitude towards business. Infect, Mr. RatanTata was very impressed with Mr. NarendraModi and praised him for his resourcefulness.

    The 11-page document a note supposedly prepared for

    the state Cabinet's approval revealed that the Tataswere offered a soft loan of Rs 9,570 crore at an interestrate of 0.1%, payable after 20 years.
