Main AttractionsWhat main films will play at the County? This section lists the Main Attractions that we intend to play in the coming weeks. Additional unlisted films will also become available. This list is only an educated guess, though, since film release plans often change. When will these main films play? Scheduling our Main Attractions is week-to-week. On Monday, we decide what main films will play starting that Friday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we set the showtimes for the upcoming week and then update our website and telephone hotline. We also send out a weekly email (which you can receive by signing up at our website). Sometimes, we book a main film a few weeks in advance, which we post on our website’s “Coming Attractions” section. For our latest Main Attractions plans, visit: CountyTheater.org (Or call our hotline at 215 345 6789.)

Philomena

Dallas Buyers ClubUSA - Jean-Marc Vallée - 1 hr 57 minMatthew McConaughey stars as real-life Texas cowboy Ron Woodroof, whose free-wheeling life was upended in 1985 when he was diagnosed with AIDS and given 30 days to live. He decided to take matters in his own hands, tracking down treatments from all over the world.McConaughey shines in this riveting, sometimes funny, very powerful story. With a great supporting performance from Jared Leto.

The PastFrance – Asghar Farhadi – 2 hr 10 min w/subtitlesIranian Asghar Farhadi’s French-language, Paris-set follow-up to his celebrated A Separation is superb. Here an Iranian man reunites with his estranged French wife in Paris to finalize their divorce. This is soon complicated by secrets, lies and revelations as their cluttered pasts muddy the way forward. This is masterful filmmaking.

The Invisible WomanUK – Ralph Fiennes – 1 hr 51 min Period biographical dramas don’t come much better than THE INVISIBLE WOMAN, an involving portrayal of the relationship Charles Dickens maintained with a much younger woman at the end of his life. The movie is beautiful in its camerawork and production design, and extremely British in its emotional restraint. Ralph Fiennes directs and stars opposite Felicity Jones.

Limited Engagements We try to play each of our Main Attractions films for a full multi-week run. Sometimes, however, we are unable to play a film in a timely or complete way, and it becomes a question of either squeezing it in or not playing it at all. We then often schedule that film for a couple of mid-week screenings, called Limited Engagements. Make sure that you sign up for our weekly email blast, so that you don’t miss these short, last-chance screenings.

The Lunchbox India - Ritesh Batra – 1 hr 44 min in English & Hindi w/subtitles In Mumbai, India, a misdelivered lunchbox brings together two very different people — a neglected housewife and a solitary widower on the verge of retirement. This beautiful film effortlessly weaves themes of gender, class, and generational differences into a simple love story. Whether it’s cooking a meal, reading a letter, or riding a crowded train, the film’s small moments are precise and completely enchanting.

Le Week-EndUK - Roger Michell – 1 hr 33 min LE WEEK-END stars Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan as a British couple celebrating their thirtieth wedding anniversary with a weekend getaway in Paris. As they travel around the city, they revisit the highs and lows of their relationship, fight about their faults, and continue to run out of restaurants without paying the bill. A bittersweet, but very enjoyable love story.

Only Lovers Left AliveUSA – Jim Jarmusch – 2 hr 2 min ONLY LOVERS is a strong dose of cool wrapped in a hypnotic vampire movie. That’s right, it’s a Jim Jarmusch vampire movie. With Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston as the hippest, most beautiful vampires ever. The film is an addictive mood piece, a nocturnal reverie that celebrates a century-old love affair. Set in Tangier and Detroit with stunning cinematography, glorious set design and amazing music, this is the filmmaker’s best work in years.

Philomena UK – Stephen Frears – 1 hr 35 minA moving and often funny film about a woman looking for the son she was forced to give up at birth. After fifty years of searching, Philomena solicits the help of a cynical journalist in her quest. Judi Dench gives a compassionate performance as the long-suffering, but ever-optimistic mom and Steve Coogan complements her in his inimitable dry manner. Stephen Frears (The Queen) directed.

Inside Llewyn Davis USA – Joel and Ethan Coen – 1 hr 45 minThe latest from the Coen Brothers, INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS follows a young folk singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961. Guitar in hand, huddled against the New York winter, he struggles to make it against mounting obstacles. Beautifully made, this new Coens’ movie ranks with their best in its balance of biting satirical humor and deep melancholy. Starring Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan.

Dear Friends of the County Theater,

On September 3, 1938, the County Theater first opened its doors. For 75 years, the County Theater has been a significant and active participant in the Doylestown community.

THANK YOU for being a part of our shared success and growth. As a nonprofit since 1993, we have presented great films and compelling special programming to over 85,000 people annually. PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING AN END-OF-YEAR GIFT. Your gift will help defray the many expenses of maintaining the theater. We have a number of planned projects, including replacing our seats and upgrading our hearing & visual assist equipment.
