Pablo Ruiz Picasso was a famous Painter, Sculptor, and pottery maker who was

famous for is works of the 20th Century. His full name was ³Pablo Diego José Francisco

de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad

Ruiz y Picasso´, which in Spanish Tradition is a common thing. The word Ruiz and

Picasso were his mother and father¶s Maiden Names, Ruiz being from his mother and

Picasso being of his father. He was born on October 25, 1881 in Málaga, Spain and died

on April 8, 1873 in Paris, France at the age of 91.

Pablo learned a lot from his dad when he was young, his father would paint bird

and other game and teach Pablo techniques and styles of painting. By his mother¶s

account Pablo¶s first words were piz, piz, believed to be short for lapiz, the Spanish word

for pencil. His father Ruiz was a professor at the School of Crafts and a Director of a

local museum.

His sister died of diphtheria at the age of 7 when Pablo was only 10 years old.

They moved to Barcelona shortly after her death because of Ruiz being transferred to

the Barcelona School of Fine Arts. At the age of 13, Ruiz persuaded Barcelona School

Officials to let Pablo take the Entrance Exam to see if he could pass. This process usually 

took students a month to complete. In which Pablo finished in just one week. At the age

of 16, Pablo¶s uncle and father decided to send him to Madrid¶s Royal Academy of San

Fernando, the best art school in the country, this was Pablo¶s first time by himself.

Soon after enrollment at the Royal Academy, Pablo dropped out due to his dislike

of the formal instruction given there, but Pablo did not leave Madrid. While in Madrid,

Pablo viewed and admired paintings by Diego Velázquez, Francisco Goya, and Francisco

Zurbarán. Pablo left Madrid in 1900 to take his first trip the Art Capital of Europe,

 which is France.

In the first months of the year 1901, Pablo moved back to Madrid and worked

 with his good friend Francisco de Asis Soler published the magazine, Young Art. During

1905 Pablo picked up many new art admirers who would buy his work. In 1907, he

 became a member of a new art gallery in France which was owned by Daniel-Henry 

Kahnweiler.

Pablo became friends with Guillaume Apollinaire who was suspected of stealing

the Mona Lisa in 1911. Apollonaire pointed at Pablo when he was arrested, both were

taking in for questioning, but were never exonerated. During the year 1904, Pablo

traveled between Paris and Barcelona Frequently. This is when he met Fernande Olivier,

 who becomes his wife. He then leaves Olivier for Marcelle Humbert, but she dies of a

premature death in 1915, which devastates Pablo.

Pablo continues to have affairs and ends up having four children with 3 different

 women; their names are Paulo, Maya, Claude, and Paloma. Towards the end of his life

Pablo said his famous quote, ³El arte es una mentira que nos hace darnos cuenta de la

 verdad´, which means in English: ³Art is a lie that makes us realize truth´.
