About us

Welcome to the Hotel Schweizerhof Basel. We are happy to welcome you again as our guest. We are a family-owned hotel in the fourth generation and hospitality is our highest value. Whether in our atmospheric bar or on our sunlit terrace, you will always find a nice place to stay with us and enjoy. Our friendly and professional team will be pleased to advise you on our selection.

Bar and Smoking Lounge

The lobby bar and smokers lounge are open from 07:00 to 23:00 hours. For our hotel guests both areas are open 24 hours a day. At the moment, smoking is only allowed on our terrace due to enlarge the indoor bar capacity.

Meeting room – Room 12

You can book the meeting room with historic ambience and all the necessary technical equipment. Our room accommodates temporarily up to 12 people. If you are interested, the reception or service team will gladly show you the room and take care of your needs.

Apéro und Receptions

Tables and chairs can be arranged according to your wishes. Our breakfast

room can be transformed into an ideal, atmospheric space for your cocktail

or reception for up to 50 guests. It will be a pleasure to arrange and

organise your event. Please contact our staff anytime.

Coffee Time

Where does our coffee come from?

Our coffee comes from a small, local coffee roaster in Birsfelden - Fritz Bertschi AG. At Bertschi-Café fresh coffee has been roasted every day since 1932. They are pioneers for fair-trade coffee in Switzerland. In 1992, Fritz Bertschi AG signed the License No. 1-contract with the Max Havelaar Foundation and has also been licensed as a Bio-Suisse company since 1994. Out of roughly ninety different types of coffee bushes, only two types are important for coffee production: Coffee Arabica and Coffee Robusta. A balanced climate, location as well as ideal soil conditions are crucial for the coffee bush to thrive. Bertschi-Café purchase their coffee beans directly from coffee cooperatives in Guatemala, Mexico and Peru. Only the ripe coffee cherries are carefully handpicked for best quality. The typical coffee aroma develops while the fermented coffee beans are roasted. Bertschi-Café relies on their old-fashioned and classic drum roaster, as well as the experience of their employees. The drum rotates around its own axis, where the beans are constantly kept moving for an even roasting. Afterwards they are gently heated to a maximum of 215°C for 15 to 17 minutes and are closely monitored by the roasting master. He is crucial for this process since a few seconds can decide on a well-rounded or bitter coffee. Once this point is reached, the beans leave the roasting drum and are rapidly cooled on a strainer. Such carefully roasted coffee breaks down its natural acidity and is particularly well digested. Bertschi-Café offers up to twenty different coffee blends. We have chosen two of these especially for you. You can enjoy them in our beautiful bar and during breakfast.

Herbal Tesa and Fruit Teas

Refreshing mint; the freshness of lemongrass and the powerful peppermint leaves are a joy to behold. Sweet chamomile; the delicate fruitiness of orange blossoms combined with the sweet and tart taste of chamomile. Verveine; the verbena with a high content of essential oils and a fine citrus note. Mountain herbs; stimulating herbs that render you cheerful (lemon balm, anise, thyme, coriander, ribwort, apple mint, sheep and marigold flowers). Ayurveda; Ginger, herbs and other soothing ingredients (liquorice root, lemon grass, chamomile flowers, black peppercorns, lemon verbena, rose petals and cinnamon pieces). Rooibos Orange crème; vibrant orange and soft vanilla notes combined with powerful Rooibos. Sweet Berries; fruit tea with strawberry-raspberry taste. Fresh Lime; flavoured fruit tea with citrus notes. Wellness; a fruit tea full of aroma (anise, peppermint, orange zest, cinnamon, blackberry leaves, lemon grass). Rosy Rose Hip; pleasantly mixed with hibiscus and rose petals. We serve Ronnefeldt tea.
