Study Background

Canada ranked very low in areas of open innovation and collaboration (Science, Technology and Innovation Council)

Process of innovation includes many parts from the research and development of new products, technologies and processes to the financing of these new developments.

Study purpose

A Social Network Analysis of Ontario’s Cross-border Technology Innovation Ecosystem.

Goal is to use the data to analyze how information and resources flow throughout the entire network based on the structure of the whole network and the types and strengths of the relationships.

Highlight the most productive practices and players.

6 stages Stage 1: Confirm Participating Stakeholders (ongoing)

Stage 2: Pilot & Preliminary Findings (completed)

Study pilot design (Mid-July)Test Survey Form through first two or three Participating Stakeholders. (End of July)Analysis of pilot phase results (August)Development of Preliminary Findings Report (September)News Release of Preliminary Findings Report (October)

Stage 3: Refine & Expand Snowball Survey. (November)

All Participating Stakeholders ask connections to complete a short questionnaire. (ends mid November). Social Media Network Analysis (ends Nov.)

Stage 4: Interviews + Merge Stage 2 & Stage 3 data. (End of November)

Isolate the most influential players determined by their

structural position within the entire network, conduct short interview to understand resources transacted. (ends Nov.)

Stage 5: Assemble and Analyze all data. (Mid November to December 2nd)

Stage 6: Report findings. (December 5th to Mid December)
