Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a current and important theme for many companies. Wiltec forms no exception. Wiltec gladly takes responsibility for the consequences corporate activities have on people and environment. CSR is therefore an obvious part of our business management. In this paper you will read more about this topic.

Wiltec operates according to ISO 26000, an international guideline by which the CSR-awareness of a company is recorded. Wiltec has been certified for its CSR-policy, for which all MVO efforts are measured and registrated.

Within the Wiltec’s organisation there are specific guidelines for associations with employees, clients, suppliers and other authorities and organisations. These guidelines have been documented in an internal manual. All employees are expected to keep themselves informed about these regulations and to act accordingly.

In every day work situations, it means that one consciously considers the impact of giving advices on clients (not only from a commercial point of view, but also as independent advisor) as well behavioural morals in internal and external communication.

Wiltec also consideres its roll towards suppliers. For instance, Wiltec in principle pays invoices within 8 days. This is one of the reasons Wiltec received the prestigious D&B rating 1; an assurance for suppliers and customers they are dealing with a sound and honest organisation.A trust committee was assigned to address incidents and irregularities through proposals to Wiltec’s board and management, in order to improve or change policies.

A conscious environmental policy is part of Wiltec’s conduct of business. To concretize, this ambition is translated into clear, annual objectives. To achieve these goals we work with an in-house developed environmental management sytem, certified according to ISO 14001. As described in environmental legislation (ALARA, ‘as low as reasonably achievable’), source reduction is vital when taking internal measures. Responsibility for execution of environmental policy follows an hierarchic order, being board, division managers and employees.

The board is responsible for drawing up the environmental policy, its implementation rests with our safety & environment official. On the next pages you will find several measures we continuously take in order to do business the durable way.

For a great part, our fleet of cars has been transformed into (mostly weg) fuel saving models with green energy labels (like Bluemotion, BlueEfficiency of Hybrid cars). Where this is not yet the case, this measurement will if possible be taken when replacing this car.

To reduce the distance travelled, tasks that do not require a physical visit are executed by our office staff. Examples are phone consultations or minor repairs (spare parts will then be sent instead of delivered by mechanic). In order to implement this on a large scale, in 2007 Wiltec started up a large Contact Centre thus shifting tasks of the travelling sales staff (and therefore necessary mileage) to the office sales staff. This therefore prevents a lot of unnecessary mileage.

To stimulate travelling by bicycle, Wiltec supplies bicycles to its employees, at special (tax) conditions.

To minimise our use of energy, all office lights are linked to timers and movement sensors. Offices are split up into compartments for good warmth management. All offices have exterior windows to ensure maximum daylight. In order to limit air-conditioning, the building has sun screens and fans. Moreover, Wiltec had an earth-warmth installation installed. This installation ensures a comfortable work environment in a very durable way, summer and winter. All this realises 28% energy-savings and 18% carbon dioxide emission reduction!

All waste is separated and when possible recycled. For examples, boxes at goods receipt get reused for outgoing orders (goods kan hier wel, maar je hebt dan wel 3x het woord goods in 2 zinnen staan). Broken boxes and old paper are shredded through a special shred-machine and processed into protective (om het doel ervan duidelijker te maken) stuffing for sending out goods.

Products which are produced by Wiltec are provided in environmental friendly packages, when possible produced with recycled material. Our suppliers have to meet our demands - whenever possible - about the delivery of goods. We prefer recycled packaging material and reused euro-pallets. We work together with local companies: they deliver goods on recycled pallets, which we reuse for our own distribution as well.

Our department Cabin Products focuses on the production of protective and cleaning products for the spraying industry. These products are distinguished because they are water based, unlike many solvent containing alternatives. This is beneficial for both mankind and environment.

In order to reduce the use of paper, Wiltec strives to share data digitally. Examples are digital invoicing, order confirmations, tenders, intranet with client information between different branches, digital payroll processing, digital faxes and growing focus on online client information-service.

Wiltec has various quality certificates and is member of different branch organisations to underline and safeguard the quality of goods delivered by Wiltec. Wiltec is also ISO 9001, 14001 and 26000 certified. The quality label for safety is entered in VCA*certification. (VCA stands for safety, health and Eevironment)

Safety Sign® acknowledgement. The Safety Sign® can only be shown by companies that are acknowledged by ‘Stichting Bedrijfserkenning voor Veiligheid, Gezondheid en Welzijn op de werkplek’ (Foundation Company Acknowledgement for Safety, Health and Wellbeing at the workplace). Companies that show the sign are checked periodically so you always can be sure that your supplier provides quality, craftsmanship, service and safety at work.

After thorough screening of the strategy, operations and results of Wiltec, they concluded thatWiltec is once again a pionier in the Netherlands. Therefore Wiltec has, for many years in a row, been awarded by Deloitte and ING as Best Managed Company. The title ‘Best Managed Company’ is a acknowledgement and confirmation that Wiltec continuously listens to it’s customers, adjusts to the ever changing world, and adapts its products and services to its needs!

Deloitte and ING annually search for the best managed companies within Dutch medium and large businesses. They judge the strategy, operations, degree of innovations and the financial results of the participating companies. The program focuses on companies with a 15 million turnover or more and good financial credits.

Wiltec holds great value to good personnel management. We therefore think that all employees need to be stimulated to execute their tasks well, but also provide sufficient opportunities for education, training and development. Also a lot of attention is given to the health and wellbeing of the staff, through the Wiltec Healthplan as well as the engagement through the Wiltec staff communication plan. A few examples:

Within Wiltec the standard Management Development Program (MDP) is employed through which young professionals can get ready for an executive position through a six phases-program. Goal of the Management Development Program is to optimally develop talented staff with a more than average ambition.

The Wiltec Healthplan was introduced in 2006, through which a healthy and responsible lifestyle was promoted among employees. Several initiatives facilitate this policy, for instance: - Fresh fruit at work stations - Discount at fitness center for employees - Quite-smoking program for employees

Various opportunities for education and training are offered. Several courses have been developed within Wiltec, in order to train and educate people on the work floor. External training is offered regularly as well, in line with tasks and personal ambitions. When recruiting and selecting staff, there is close collaboration with local authorities, sheltered workshops and the Unemployment Ensurance Agency. This facilitates when possible the employment of people that have fewer opportunities to get a job or have been unemployed for a long time. This cooperation has resulted in (re)assignment of several people throughout the organisation, in both logistics, supporting and commercial jobs.

Wiltec has a intensive cooperation with local schools for vocational education and educational institutions for higher education and universities. On the one hand to give practical training to interns, on the other to offer schools/universities the opportunity to test theoretical approaches at the work floor through cases, traineeships and real problems that emerge within the organisation.

Employees’ commitment is of great importance. This is pursued by communicating the latest developments, novelties and announcements on a screen, located in the canteen. Also a monthly newsletter is distributed among all staff members.

When selecting a supplier and manufacturer, various considerations of public interest are taken in account. For instance, we only work with suppliers that explicitly confirm to not use child labor; and also take proper steps to produce in the most environmentally friendly manner as possible. To underline this thought, Wiltec is also a member of the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF)’; Wiltec buys 70% of all professional wear in at FairWear participants, such as its own brand QW3, HaVeP, Tricorp and Fristads.

Regarding our own production, we are in close cooperation with TNO (Dutch Organisation for Applied Scientific Research) and other experts in the field of product development and innovation.

Wiltec supports various social initiatives. Examples are sponsoring local sports clubs, associations or charities. Wiltec also support specific projects, like arts, Kiwani (building houses and schools in Africa) and various local and national events.

All requests are taken into careful consideration and judged according to current policy and finances. An overview of previous and current initiatives can be provided upon request. When Wiltec offers a lunch to guests, this is usually prepared by the sheltered workshop IBN. Wiltec, being a ‘Friend of Bernhoven’, supports care and patient’s interest within our regional hospital Bernhoven.

Wiltec is also one of the 25 employers who commit to, and has become founder of the AANtWERK platform. AANtWERK’s goal is to show that social and business success go well together under the motto “together we are responsible for the employment of people who have a distance from the labor market.”
