• TheArchitectsforOurTownNewtownareWPSOpus.Jane(whowasontheselectionpanel)outlinedtheattributesthatassistedtheirselection-havebeensuccessfulwithsimilarprojects.TheywillberesponsibleforplansforredevelopingtheWCCCommunityFacilitiesinNewtown-theCommunityCentre,NetworkNewtownandNewtownHall.ThefirstworkshoptomeetthearchitectsandcontributetodevelopingthebriefisonSaturday28thJuly-earlyafternoonatNCCC.
• NewtownCommunityGardenatCarraraPark.TimToveyisgoingtobetheon-goingcoordinator.PublicLIabilityInsuranceissortedfor$5million.$638.26betweenthreeorganisations,withaCouncilgrantexpectedtocoverit.
• Postshophasclosed-firstlookattheagenciesisnotpositive,signageispoorandthereisnowritingdesk.
LiquorControlBylaw(LiquorBan)review
• JimLewisfromCouncilpresentedapreviewofthisissue.FormalconsultationwillbeinSeptember.
• TheLiquorBanneedstobereviewedthisyearoritwilllapse.• Hardertoextendthebansince2012.• Goodevidencetokeepexistingban,lessevidencetoexpandit(higherthreshold).Itcurrently
coverstheCBDandthroughtoNewtown,butnotBerhamporeorKilbirnie.• Opentoinputonhowwellitisworking,andwhatcouldbeimproved.• 3000infringementnoticesoverfiveyearsoftheban.Policebelievethesepeoplewouldoften
causemoreproblemsiftheyhadbeenallowedtocontinuedrinking.• FeedbacksofaristhatthebaninNewtownisgood,butneedsbetterenforcement.Sometimes
enforcementisnotaccurate.SometimesitisnotbeingenforcedproperlybyWalkwise.Therecouldbemoreandbiggersignstoremindpeople,especiallyinpossibledrinkingspots-egCarraraPark,ConstableStcorner,StThomas’scourtyard.
• MasseyUniversityareplanningtomentionthebanclearlyintheirstudenthandbooks.• Issuesrelatingtoresourceconceptswillberaisedseparately.• BernardnotedthatKiaOraNewtown,andLibrarysecurityperson(Wayne)havegreatly
improvedtheenvironmentaroundtheRiddifordConstableStreetscorner,byremindingpeoplewithalcoholabouttheban.
• SteveCcommentedthatdailycleaning,andgoodresponsetoFixItrequestsatCarraraParkhashelpedminimisethehazardtherefrombrokenglass.Howeverpeopledostilldrinkthere.
• Katpointedoutthatthesignsdon’tindicatewhattodoiftheyfindsomeonedrinking.• Perhapsgetthosesellingliquortoremindtheircustomers?• ConsultationisinSeptember,SubmissionsinOctober.

• JessDuceyandSamWilkiefromCouncilNetworksImprovementsTeamtalkedabouttheinformationgatheringprocess(thesurvey).Thepurposeistodevelopaconnectedcitywidecyclenetworksopeopleofallagesandabilitiescansafelychoosetomakemoretripsbybike,butthesurveyquestionscoverallformsoftransport.
• ManypeopleatthemeetinghadreceivedtheCouncilflyerintheirletterbox.• Moreinformation,andthesurvey,canbefoundbystartingat:

AReviewofthe1930’sCharacterControlonBuildingshasbeenannouncedbyWCCaspartofthegeneralDistrictPlanreview.
• ThishasalarmedBalmoralTceresidentsasHousingNewZealandhastoldresidentsthattheyareexploringoptionsfordevelopingtheirpropertiesat124,130&131CoromandelStreetand9BalmoralTce.
• HousingNewZealandoriginallypurchased9BalmoralTerraceintendingtodemolishittoprovideanaccesswayforabout17buildingsonthepreviousKuraKaupapasiteinCoromandelStreet.SomeyearsagothecombinedprotestsofresidentsandtheNewtownResidents’Associationaboutdemolishingthispre-1930srestoredhomeresultedinthepropertybeensavedandusedforhousing.NowthatHNZisagainconsideringdevelopmentoptionsthereisrenewedconcern.
• ResidentsinCoromandelStarealsoconcerned-theoriginalplanswereforanintensivedevelopment,andlackedatrafficmanagementplan.
• ItwaspointedoutthatthispartofNewtown(Coromandel/Princess/Owen/RegentStreetsetc)hasincreasinglyintensivebuildingprojects.
• PaulEagleandKylieCox(fromPaul’soffice)invitedtheresidentstopasstheinformationontothemandtheywillliaisewithHNZabouttheirplans.Accepted.
