    Janua ry , 1982Dear Co-workers , 1031Things have been happening s ince we were l a s t ab l e to sen t a fu l l news l e t t e r . Nota l l have been encouraging. On th e pos i t ive s i de , we were del igh ted on t h i s pas tFriday to welcome home th e m in is te r o f th e Kimberley Road Church of Chr is t , bro therRon Whisman and h is fami ly . I have been minis ter ing a t Kimberley road during h isfurlough and we s ta r t ed the building progranme during tha t time. The Lord wil l ing ,th e f i r s t phase of t h i s should be comple ted in th e next few weeks now t ha t thecompulsory "bui lders hol idays" a re over and the bui lde r wi l l be re turning to work. Al a r ge group of church fo lk gathered a t our home t h i s week to welcome the Whisman^sback. (They a re present ly l iv ing in the tent-camper in our back yard) .This in t roduces th e negat ive s ide . For the past two months, our e ldes t daughter andh e r ch i l d r en have been l i v ing wi th us and we have cared fo r all th e f i n anc i a l needsof both famil ies as well as the ex tra driv ing resu l t ing from the fac t t h a t heryoungest was born dur ing t h a t t ime and she had to make repeated t r i p s to th ehospital in Johannesburg. We e spec i a l l y wish to thank those churches and i nd iv idua l s whohave contr ibuted toward t h i s need. Some have made what must have b ee n v er ysac r i f i c i a l cont r ibu t ions . We do apprecia te it, most humbly, but as still more i surgen t ly needed , we have decided to s e l l th e camper and perhaps r ep l ace it when wer e t u rn with a l i gh t e r one t h a t wi l l be ea s i e r e rec t ed on s i t e and ea s i e r towedb eh in d ou r sma l l ca r . Another f a re inc rease was announced t h i s pas t week so werea l ly have no idea what th e t i cke t s wil l a ctu al ly c os t by March. We must j u s t bep repa r ed .

February, 1982 55^0 .Dear F riend s and Co-Workers, 'Praise the Lord for His wonderful provision. Kathy and Lee have rented a housenot far away which means that the children will be able to attend the school inwhich they enrolled. Kathy and the children plan to move shortly. She has hireda full time "help" as she is also taking a job as book-keeper and switchboardoperator. With Michelle and Cameron, there has to be someone at home to carefor them and meet the others when they come from school. This should give us ashort time of relative quiet before we leave for America,We are also thankful that Phyllis' shingles are no longer bothering her. I cannot truly s^y that her nerves are much better though.Becky and Chris will be moving in at the first of March. They are to look afterthe house while we are away. We are scheduled to attend the MissionaryFellowship Meeting at Umzumbe on the 2nd and 3rd of March, the Minister's Weekfran the 3rd to the 6th at Margate near there and then to fly from Jan Smutsairport for Amsterdam and hence to Chicago by K.L.M. airline. We leave the 9thand arrive in Chicago on the 10th. The Lord willing, we hope to be in Lincoln, for the College Homecoming the next two days and to stay over for the IllinoisChristian Convention. Perhaps we will see some of you there. (We will be deadon our feet, but we are looking forward to i t anyway.)One problem, and we have received the last money transfer before they have tobe paid, is that we find cash on hand is not sufficient for tickets and salary^with other essential expenses. (Trailer licences, car insurance renewal, James'sal airy, Compugraphic lease, etc.) God will provide, but it will be interestingto see how.The Lord does answer pr^ers in such a wonderful way. I had been concerned thatwe might be forced by availability to change to an unfamiliar press when wecome to replace the present one, but have discovered that a new Davidson agencyhas just opened in Johannesburg. The new model of the press we have been usingis now available locally. The ideal machine for our work is on the show floor. Also an ideal collator replacement is on show at another firm, though i t istakes up more space, has a smaller capacity, and is slower than the one wereally had in mind.In order to cut our expenses to the "bone" in anticipation of the ticket costs,I have done no printing at all this month, and have no choice but to do littleor none next month as well because of paper costs. Instead, I have been settingtype and recording it on floppy disks for the time that we are ready tore-print some of the books. This took no additional funds at all, but I havemanaged to utilise the time very usefully to set type for eleven books. Thoughwe advertised the camper for sale, and we had a stream of viewers, often inbetween torrential showers and hail stornis, no one had the money on hand so westill have the camper. I just conclude that the Lord means us to keep i t , andthat He is going to provide the needed funds in some other way. We will not beplanning to use it for this coming trip as we can stay with friends there andare planning to share car expenses and travel down and back with Bill Weber. Hedoes not have a t r a i l e r h itch in any case .We are eagerly looking forward to seeing you all soon, the Lord willing.Yours in Jesus Chris t ,

    - - > lOQ?Dear Friends and Co-wrkers, March, 1982 ^ 6 " ^God has been good to us and we were able to pay for the air tickets today. Weare scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 2:45 the 10th of March and must make ourwn arrangements to get fron there to Urbana v/here we shall be making ourheadquarters_for the next few months. As we shall not have any of our equipmentavailable, we shall not be able to send the usual monthly 1etter until afterAugust when we return to Alberton, the Lord willing. If you wish to contactus, you may find us mid-week in care of 706 East Washington Street, Urbana,Illinois, (phone 217 328-2955). Of course v/e hope to see as many of you inperson as i s a t a ll possible. Our daughter Becky and her husband wil 1 be living in our home here while we areaway and she will keep an "eye" on James who, we hope, will try to keep ourcorrespondence viork moving. I have been training him this past month.Unfortunately he has just broken the news to us that he wants to buy a houseseveral hundreds of miles away, and i f he does that, we will be left with NO01^ to cope with our mail and probably have upwards of ten thousand pieces"^fmail to care for v^en we return. We just pray that he stays for most of theperiod if not all of it . He can not operate the word-processer so all theaddresses will have to be entered vhen we get back in any case. The first v/eek of February, brother Ben Pennington, who was visiting frcm FortVictoria, Zimbabwe, and I attended services on a new farm preaching point ofJames*. We had a delightful day, and I preached to the more than sixty peopleassembled in the small room, perhaps 8' x 18'in size. It had a flat tin roofand no ceiling. I wondered i f we might faint when they closed the door for theprayers, as is their custom. There was one baptism and were two confessions offa ith that day, for which we give the Lord praise.During the month, again in order to conserve funds for the tickets, I spentmuch of my time setting type on the Compugraphic. I lost count of how many morebooklets completed. The last one, a larger one was finished a few minutes ago.The rest will have to wait until we return and th^ are needed as we shall haveother urgent things to do Oien we get back to South Africa. The church house at Kimberley Road now has the roof on, though there is a lotof finishing work to be done before it can be used. I plan to take a pictureat the very last moment before we leave in order to have the latest progress onfilm. All that has been done to date is fully paid for by the congregationitself, but they will na/ have to start using borrowed money for the finishinqwork. ^The first week of March, Phyllis and I will be travelling with Bill Weber andRon Whisman to Umzunbe where we will be the guests of the Lynn Stanley familyfor a missionary retreat and the African Minister's Meeting. I still do notknow if I will be teaching a class or not. I was asked and at first declined, then decided I could manage if th^ real ly need me. Perhaps they have someoneelse. If so, I am not sorry as we have so very many details to cope with justnow In reguard to our planned trip and absolutely no time after that meeting atal 1 . -We thank God for your wonderful support over the years. We look forward toseeing you soon the Lord willing. Our special appreciation to the Andersons whohave offered us their basement apartment for our visit and to the Lears whohave again offered the use of a car for oi;|r transport.Yours aji^His Servants, Mr and Mrs Raymond Anderson, F. Bear Friends and Co-workers,Our furlough in America is^now nearing the half way mark andalready we are missing the work and our family and loved ones verymuch. Our thoughts are turning increasingly to A frica .He rejoice in the wo nde rful r ecep tion we have had in Americahowever, and we do look forward to those appointments s t i l l to bef i l l ed . I t would appear that the Summer months wil l be far busierthan these past two have been and that time will pass quickly.lie have changed banking fac i l i t ies recently and the new bankhas made the request that a ll checks in the future be written, notin the personal name of June or myself, but that they be written to

    - T R A C T Cj^MTFv^/' instead. You wil l also find th i s endorsementrubber stamped on the reverse of returned cancelled checks in thefuture. I know that you will all be helpful in this request.Hews from Africa has been sketchy. Most l e t te rs have been fromone or more of our grandchildren and they, naturally, have not mentionedanything about how James is coping with his work at al l . We have noteven been informed in the Kimberley Road Church is meeting in the new

b uild in g y et o r not .Please remember to keep in prayer our requests that God will raiseother language groups to train for the ministry, and that while we are on Furlough God will raise up an individual, orgroup who wish to establish a "working memorial" in Africa and will helpin the replacement of our press and collator. Both are equally vital tothe ministry and are in urgent need of replacement before we can resumeth e p r i n t i ng min i s t r y . ^

I t was not an easy t r i p , bu t we have ar r ived . Praise God. I knew th e poss ib i l i ty oft roub les when we heard o f th e a t tempted coup i n Kenya a s Nai rob i was o_ur one s top inAfr ica before Johannesburg. After Chicago's t r a f f i c and get t ing a lec ture fo r beingover on baggage , we had a lovely t r i p to Ansterdam. We a l l had th re e s ea ts each andiaid down for the short night's flight, .In j^sterdam we slept most of the daythrough and in th e l a t e af ternoon took a bus down town and enjoyed a very n ice t ourof th e in ne r c i ty by cana l boa t . We d id a little shopp ing and s igh t see ing andreturned to the ai rpor t where we were told tha t our plane would be departing only a t2:00 a.m . and would no t s top at Nairobi . This meant a very long w ait, bu t eventual lywe did depart and it was only about 7:30 a.m. tha t we suspected tha t something waswrong. The plane turned bade over the.-^wan.D^ in Egypt and a half an hour l a ter wel anded a t Cairo where we were no t al lowed to 'd i sembark . Sudan had r e fu sed uspermission to f ly over fo r Johannesburg. Rad io messages flew back and for th andEgyptian off ic ia ls dashed in and out , but in the end a f t e r asking how many SouthAfrican passports we had on board we were told t ha t we could not s tay and mustr e tu rn to Holland. At noon, we took o ff again fo r Hol la nd and so we a rr iv ed th ere inth e l a t e af ternoon. The a i r l i n e arranged busses and ho t e l rooms and we had a meal a tth e hote l and Phyl l i s arid I l imbered ti p a b i t with a long s t r o l l i n a beau t i fu l c i t ypark we discovered near th e hote l . After t ha t , it was back to bed, and sleep till11:30 and another 2:00 depar ture , th i s t ime s topping in Nairobi as scheduled. Theplane was loaded and we l e f t passengers, while the board ing passe iigers told us ofthe loot ing and mahem they had endured. They were del ighted to get aboard as was thereplacement crew. We arr ived in Johannesburg, thus , a day and severed hours l a t e rthan expected and having flown many ext ra hours . Bed and home never looked so good. Most of our family was a t t h e a ir p or t, happy to have us back and anxious to know whywe had been de layed .Guests a r r ived th e second day we were home, they had flown th e same rou te , but twodays l a t e r and 'a re on a tour of South Africa and then on to o ther count r ies North. Iput them on th e Blue Train th i s morning headed fo r Cape Town.Yesterday we attended church in the new building a t Kimberley Road fo r th e f i r s ttim e. We found t ha tthey have devia ted from th e plans in many ways, and a l l of them much more expensivethan original ly planned, but it i s a l ove ly bui ld ing and one we can be proud of ,bu i l t to the Lord 's glory .Phyl l is and I say a s incere "Tharic You" to all th e wonderful Chris t ian people withwhom we have had the priv i lege to fel lowship during th i s de l ight fu l break, andpart icularly to the Andersons with whom we l ived and the Lears who supplied us witha much needed car . May God bless you a l l in His service. June asks tha t you pleaseremember to make all checks ou t t o Gospel Trac t Centre . A few have fo rgo t t en .We returned without funds being promised fo r th e replacement of the pr in t ingequipment, to find our old press in a pretty depressing s ta te . But we do know thatour Lord ca res fo r His work and His workers . I f ind t h a t I can ge t a recondi t ioned"Rotaprint" as i s shown in our cata log , l ike new and fo r about $10,000. SFP 1 ] 198?Dear Friends and Co-Workers, September, 1982What a month. The month s tar ted l a te , of course with our arrival well into themonth, then was started off with touring visitors whom we thoroughly enjoyed, buti t was a bit of a distraction. Never, the less, we have pretty well cleared thedesk of accumulated work James had saved for us. The new student enrollments havebeen key-boarded into the Word processer, accumulated lessons marked and mailed andwe a re actua lly "current" already, much to my supprise. I am finding that books arebeing returned from students for whom he has lef t no information at all though, sohe could not have kept his records up to date. (At least he sent them books in thes tar t . )A real highl ight of our month was the Christ ian Booksellers Convention which washeld in Alberton th is year. I would not normally attend th is as i t is a "closed"convention , but Ben Pennington of Zimbabwe i s a member and, as he was not able toattend, he arranged for me to attend in his place and use his registration. Therewere many workshop type sessions which I found very enlightening. "Breaking intothe African Market", "Bookkeeping & Cash Register Systems", "Shopfitting & Layout","Why Businesses Go Bust" for example. The wholesale displays were fabulous, and Idid meet a lo t of people and learn much that will be a blessing in our own printingand d is tr ibu ti on o f mater ia ls . We were reassured tha t the African people aresearching for reading materials as never before. The Lord may be preparing the wayto something along the l ine of a Bible Bookstore one day.I found our prin t shop to be shockingly f i l thy and i t took several days to replacesupplies and to clean tha t up fo r use again. The camera, typese t te r and everythingelse had to be cleaned inside and out. It is now ready to "roll" again. Today theservicanan for the Davidson came and he plans to service th e p rin tin g press for meand to replace broken parts so tha t I can properly get a t th e p rin tin g in earnest .He will come Wednesday next week. I have three booklets ready for the press assoon as it i s ready to go. One smal 1 job must be done before then as i t i sessential for our mission conference which s ta r t s the I5th a t Graaff Reinet. (550miles each direct ion.) As he is a special is t in our part icular type of press, hehas offered to help me locate a replacement for th i s press some time in th e earlynew year . He knows of a firm which i s planning to in sta ll la rger presses and the i rformer ones, ideal for our needs, w ill be avai lab le . In the meantime, his quotefor repairs and servicing i s very reasonable.Again several days have been spent " ti dy ing up" partly finished jobs at theKimberley Road Church. I t i s lovely to be meeting in the new building, but thereis much to be done yet . I have put up signs on the lavator ies, closed off thetoo ls and bu i lder ' s debr i s from th e audi tor ium, cleaned , and laid th e ceramic t i l e son the kitchen floor. The gouting i s s t i l l to be done, so I am not finished thereyet , then I plan to s ta r t to t i l e the walls in the men's lavatory. Material i s onhand for tha t job . Yesterday I returned f ive boxes of excess f loor t i l e s forcredi t and picked up gouting materials.James had an accident a t a garage th i s month and had to have a f inger on his r igh thand amputated a t the f i r s t jo in t . I t slows him down, but amazing ly , he is s t i l lable to type. I am thankful tha t it did not happen in my shop. He i s s t i l lplanning to move to White River a t the end of the year.Again we say thank you to those of you opened your homes so wonderfully to us whilewe were in America and those who have fai thful ly remembered us in prayer andf inancial ly . Do continue to pray on our behalf.Yours in His Service Mr and Mrs Raymond Anderson, F. Agents

Dear Friends and Co-Workers, ^ October, 1982Praise God fo r the excit ing things that have happened th is past month. I hadexpected a "diff icult" conference as there have been problems in the hostchurch and the area, but the Lord was wi th us and we had a wonderful, even ifrather "casually" planned week. Probably i t was less dif f icul t for me as I amno longer on the executive committee, too. It was a very large gathering ofpeople and they were a happy lot . I found that I had a sermon assignment whenwe returned from fu rlough, then the sibject was changed af ter I had startedpreparations. In the end I preached on the subject of the "Christ is the Lordof our Money". I preached from the point of view that Christ is the Lord of ALLof our l ife, money Included. ("Christ 1s Lord" was the general theme.)We were a lso del ighted to find tha t the man who serviced Davidson printingpresses for many years for Spicers Pty. Ltd., has started his own business andso I had him service the press for me. He replaced many parts with new ones andcleaned and re-adjusted everything so that i t runs beautifully for the presentat least. One Important part 1s unavailable, so we can s t i l l not do goodregis ter work. His price was not low, but aside from the parts he worked twosolid days on i t . He is also keeping me in mind for a larger Davidson with allattachments, tha t will be available early next year, the Lord will ing. Hefigures that the present p ress will be well worth this investment In time andmoney 1n resale. The larger press would make possible, two colour work, fasterturnout, double sheet size, and because of the roll a ttachment, cheaper paper .We have also bought a proper processer for our typesett ing machine so that Ican develop the paper in daylight in a few moments without problems fron l ightleaks. I t i s a great boom.We a lso p rin ted both our own catalogue and the Umzumbe School Catalogue duringthe month and James is assembling these . Unfortunately the collator could use asimilar working over. We use the Bible School cata logues in our fol lov/ -up onstudents who complete our correspondence lessons and the catalogue of otherbooks and supplies goes to all South African students. The f i rst English lessonbook is scheduled for as soon as there is space in the print shop to stack thef in ished sheets . Space is a real problem for us. I am very pleased with thequality of the work and the saving on damaged papers since the repairs. At thepresent price of paper , savings there alone will soon cover the cost of therepairs .I pulled some muscles in my shoulder putting the camper up and down on theconference trip so I have been working at a real handicap since v;e returned. I tis presently much better, though not well. For more than a week, I suffered alo t of pain, especially at night and I was taking strong pain pil ls every threehours. We have decided to try again to se l l that camper as i t is jus t toodifficult to set up and to dismantle for two people and virtually impossiblefor me alone. We need something much easier to handle, perhaps one of the newertypes tha t sets up easi ly .New enrollments are s tar tin g to come in for the correspondence lessonsfollowing the lull of our furlough. South Africa is leading the recovery l i s tin number, naturally as we have started to promote again in an easy way. Fasybecause we have to watch the budget very carefully now with inflation so bad.We are ever grateful for those who stand so firmly behind us in prayer andsupport .Yours in His Service, Mr and Mrs Raymond Anderson, F. Dear Friends and Co-vcrkers, , November, 1982After all t he h assels of errec ting t he c amper a nd di sma ntl i ng i t for t he 1astconference followed by over a week of pain and sleepless nights with a strainedshoulder, we decided to se l l i t . I simply placed a small advertisement in thelocal weekly "advertiser" paper. There were a few calls , then on Saturday wehad one fron out of town. Mrs Moekrke, the wife of a strav/berry farmer, wasinterested. She made an appointment to look at i t Sunday afternoon, when sheand two sons arrived, looked i t over, and she wro te out a company check for thefull amount and took i t with her. They have strapping large boys so the sizeand struggles putting it up and down did not bother them a t a l l . God i s good.We really thought that He was d ir ec ting t o a suitable replacement when a fewdays la ter a local person advertised a much smaller fiber-glass camper whichcost only half what I had gotten for the larger one. However, i t developed thatI t had not been l icenced fo r two years , the se l l e r was not the owner and didnot know how to locate him, and he was not prepared to make i t roadworthy or toass i s t with the paperwork. I was very disappointed tha t I did not feel I couldtake i t , but i t all worked out for the best when a re ally lik e new fibre glassand aluminum one came available complete for only a l i t t l e more than we hadgotten for the one we sold. I t also has a very large tent should we wish to puti t up, and i s ideal and ready fo r f i t t ing to take my books and t rac ts fo rdisplay. I must jus t build the display panels and f i t them with hanging hooks.James has completed the assembly of the catalogues printed l a s t month as wellas the 33rd reprint of the main English workbook, "New Testament Doctrines". Hehad run out of t h i s while we were in America and had been send ing the secondbook f i r s t until we could print th i s one which should be before the other oneagain. The co l l a to r has been working much be t t e r s ince I was able to f indreplacement parts at the local agency. They are makeshift subst i tutes , but seemto work fine. Best of a l l , the cost was only about $10.Unfortunately James has jus t told me tha t he i s planning to move to his housein the homeland about the middle of Decenber. We shal 1 miss his help in theprint shop. Pray with us for a suitable replacement for him, part icularly inthe ministry of the local black churches which are coming right after so manyproblems in the past as the resul t of not having a resident minister. We also re-printed Tsonga t rac ts as we were out of one of these . There i spresently a "run" on this language which is spoken by a people who l ive about250 miles North of us near the Zimbabwe border area . We have present ly about13,500 s tudents enrolled out of the total population of three million Tsongas,or one out of every 222 people. I must re-pr in t the basic Tsonga book veryshortly as well as we are down to less than a hundred copies on hand. We find'cttat we rsaaViy'1r '"tnes'e'^Vuns'*^ one language at a time until we reach asaturation point. This happened with the Vendas where we reached the point ofone enrollment for eve^y 1.8 peopl e i n the country, then new enrollmentsstopped almost completely. I am praying that the next such growth will be withthe S. Ndebele as these people live only a few miles frcm the land that Beckyand Chris have bought north of Pretoria. That would make an ideal base fromwhich to do some follow up, using the camper to live in. The last time we wereat their place we met forty busses headed for the homeland as we returned homeabout f ive o:clock in the evening. We ranain ever grateful for your constant remembrances in prayers and giftsthat we might abound the more in His work.Yours in His Service Mr and Mrs Raymond Anderson, F. Dear Friends and Co-Workers, December, 198^^^We learned as I was finishing the news letter for November, and managed to geta foot-note on the letters for close friends and family, that Phyllis st bescheduled for a hysterectomy as soon as th^ could make arrangements. In tactmany have already sent cards and told of prayers. We appreciate this immensely.Unfortunately, the gynecologist is a very busy man and as he only canes toAlberton once a week i t took until the 14th of December to be able to reservethe surgery when he woul d be available. Thus, Phyl lis is to go into sma\\private hospital In Alberton on the 13th for surgery on the 14th. Plans goahead for the usual family Christnas Eve dinner, but much will be done inadvance and the girls will come and do the actual work involved. Our Johanneiurg based fanily of American missionaries all met at the Weberhome for Thanksgiving dinner. There were over thirty of us including all of ourown married daughters and t hei r f amil i es. (not actually missionaries, butAmerican or half so anyway.)Next week end is planned to be a major "happening" with visitors from the coastto take part in the farewell for James Mabaso at the Kathlehong church.sane occasion is to be used for his ordination service and that of SimonMtshavisa their former minister. This is a big occasion for us as Oames hasverged with us so long and Simon was a contact of the correspondence work anunber of years ago and we count him as a very good friend as well as being oneof the mission's best ministers. Pray us with for a repl acanent to do his workwho will be able to translate into Tswana and Afrikaans, or for separatet ra n sl a to r s.

We now have the canper-trail er fitted out and ready to roll. We can displayall of the English, Xhosa, Zulu, Tswana and Afrikans books and tracts in it attime Those are the languages we need for our existing churches. We hope toTe abl^io make use o? this fo? area rallies, ca^ps, the minister'sconference as well as my own travels, as my name has been put forward to takethe examination to become a marriage officer particularly forInland part of South Africa. Amarriage officer is virtually a civil servant spost as he has to be government appointed and must write an exami nation. Hejust is jTOt paid a sal ary.During the month we actually printed a new edition of one of the Tsonga booksthat was out of stock and three new study books in translation ^of "baptian". During sizzling tenperatures, I have set most of the type for twomuch larger books dealing with spiritual growth. We had a break-down with the press this month, but Mr Kerker repaired it in afew hours and also added the jogger it had missing since we owned it, and aworn part that is vital to prevent double impressions, "ow it is rea ly capa^^of close register work for the first time since we have had it. Our last threebooks which were a study on Baptisn in English, Xhosa and Zulu, have a fullphoto-cover for the first time we have tried this. After I realized neededdarker irk and darkened the yellow to brcwn, th^ cane out beautifully. We particularly ask your prayers on the 13th. (We are about 8 ahead ofyou all in time), that Phyllis will have no canpl ications and all will go wellfo r h e r .
