嘉華集團一向秉持「取諸社會、用諸社會」的宗旨，在創造經濟價值的同時，亦致力回饋社會，建設可持續發展的環境。今年主席呂志和博士成立的國際性獎項「呂志和獎 - 世界文明獎」昂然踏入第三屆，本期《嘉天下通訊》封面故事讓讀者了解這些為世人福祉默默耕耘、無私奉獻的個人或團體，亦記錄了呂志和博士為2017年捐獻的北京大學「呂志和樓」揭幕，並獲北京大學授予名譽校董，及於北大舉辦呂志和獎座談會，繼續宣揚仁愛與和平精神。

與此同時，集團在業務發展、人才培訓及履行企業社會責任上的傑出表現，亦獲得社會外界的認同和肯定，獲頒多個獎項，給予集團極大的鼓勵。未來，集團會加入更多的新思維，推動業務發展和繼續回饋社會，務求為持份者和社會大眾帶來更積極和正面的影響。

In line with its objective of “benefiting the society with what has been earned from the society”, K. Wah Group has been committed to rewarding the society while delivering economic value and contributing to sustainable development. This year saw the third edition of the “LUI Che Woo Prize - Prize for World Civilisation” founded by Dr. Lui Che-woo, Group Chairman, and the cover story of this issue gives readers a better understanding of the individuals or groups who work diligently for the welfare of the world selflessly. We also read about the unveiling of “Lui Che Woo Building” of Peking University that Dr. Lui has donated in 2017 and the appointment of Dr. Lui as an honorary member of the governing board of Peking University and the LUI Che Woo Prize Symposium held at Peking University advocating the spirit of charity and peace.

In the meantime, the Group’s outstanding performance in business development, HR training and corporate social responsibility have also been well recognised by the public, as evidenced by the garnering of numerous awards, which has provided the Group with encouragement beyond measure. In the future, the Group will continue to drive business development and contribute to the society with more new thinking, so that we can bring more positive impact to our stakeholders and the public.

各位同事:

今年「呂志和獎 — 世界文明獎」已經踏入第三屆，回想四年前，我成立此獎的目的是希望表揚推動可持續發展的先進力量、改善人類福祉的卓越典範、有助世人心靈幸福的正能量楷模。我很高興過往兩屆得到了各界人士的鼎力支持，我衷心感謝獎項理事會、獎項推薦委員會及遴選專責小組所有同仁的努力和堅持，奠下成功的基礎。

在過去一年，我們仍面對著天然災難、貧富懸殊、反全球化浪潮等老問題，為很多人帶來傷痛和困擾。多個超強颱風在世界多地接踵而來，造成極大的人命及財產傷害。而令香港人感受最深，相信是設身處地感受到天災的威脅，強颱風山竹」的吹襲破壞了大量林木和自然環境，甚至是商業樓宇

和住宅都遭受不同程度的破壞，可幸的是沒有造成人命傷亡，但卻反映了氣候變化對人類的影響越見明顯。

又如最近大家都非常關心的中美貿易戰，這對香港的本地生產總值、轉口貿易和產業鏈等或多或少都帶來了影響，為香港的經濟前景增添了不明朗因素。縱使面對著艱難的環境，但同時也激發心懷美好的人士及團體繼續砥礪前行。今年的獲獎者及團體與「呂志和獎」，都有一個共同的理念 -「為締建美好世界，共建世界文明盡一己之力」。

知識改變命運，我一向對教育工作尤其重視。今屆「正能量獎」得主是來自印度的「伯樂林教育基金會」。基金會成立在資金短缺與不被理解的孟買貧民窟，23年來透過實證為本的方法，專注於高質量、低成本的項目，致力填補教育系統的空白與漏洞，改善教學質素和提高教育水平。今日發展至印度全國，每年直接幫助百萬名兒童獲得基本讀寫算能力，不但對當地基礎教育的發展居功至偉，教學模式更被複製到三大洲16個國家。他們的努力，將讓我們的文明根基更為茁壯扎實。

近年來，氣候變暖造成各種自然生態災難。本年度的「人類福祉獎」獲獎者是「世界氣象組織」。氣象沒有國界，氣候變化的影響跨越地域，全球需要攜手共同應對挑戰。組織在超過半世紀一直恪守使命，孜孜不倦地加強191個國家和地區會員間的合作，制訂標準及監察政策實施，改善全球監察、預報及溝通工作。世界氣象組織帶領提升成員在預測災害方面的能力，有效發放預報和預警資訊給市民大眾及持份者，使大家可以及時應對，有效地提升人類福祉。

減少碳排放，發展再生能源是大家的共同心願。來自德國的漢斯－約瑟夫‧費爾先生是今年「持續發展獎」獲獎者。費爾先生是全球可再生能源運動和推動環保的先驅，1994年創立了全球首家太陽能發電合作社，2000年聯合草擬並成功爭取德國議會通過《可再生能源法案》，透過徵收再生能源附加費，以價格補貼協助供應商降低發展成本，並已在世界各地被沿用逾百次。他的努力使再生能源能持續發展，他還進一步分享成功經驗，推動著全球百分百應用可再生能源的宏大願景。

在人類共同命運的宏大課題面前，「呂志和獎」不單是一顆散播正能量的種子，更是一個全球的多元、開放的對話、交流及合作平台，促進各界對迫切及重大問題的探討，鼓勵世人以互助互諒的精神增進和諧，以包容的心態面對困境，避免戰爭，共享環境與資源，實現安享和諧美好的世界資源。

我也在此衷心地懇請各界賢達志士，給予「呂志和獎」和獲獎者更多關注和支持，讓他們的善念與善行照亮至更廣的區域和領域。展望未來，獎項將會穩步發展，今後將不再設立年度關注領域，希望進一步擴大每個獎項類別的涵蓋範圍，從而讓更多在不同領域作出巨大貢獻的個人和團體有機會獲得表揚。

Dear Colleagues,

This year, we hosted the third edition of the “LUI Che Woo Prize - Prize for World Civilisation”. I founded this prize four years ago with the aim to recognise individuals and groups which pioneer in the promotion of sustainability, provide role models for the welfare for mankind, and excel in generating positive energy to inspire others. I am happy that different sectors across the community have shown strong support for the previous two editions, and I am grateful to the persistent efforts of my colleagues at the Prize Council, the Prize Recommendation Committee and the Selection Panels to lay the foundation on which success has been achieved.

In the past year, we continued to face longstanding issues such as natural disasters, wealth gap, and the trend of anti-globalisation, resulting in pain and distress for many. A number of extremely powerful typhoons have battered different parts of the world causing significant damages, including Typhoon Mangkhut, which has brought to Hong Kong people an up-close experience of the devastating effects of natural disasters, destroying tens of thousands of trees and causing damages to buildings, though luckily not any fatality. Nevertheless, the impact of climate change has never been more evident.

On another front, the China-US trade war which we have been deeply concerned with has affected Hong Kong’s GDP, entrepot trade and industry chains to various extents and clouded Hong Kong’s economic prospects with uncertainty. Despite the difficult situation, people and groups of goodwill have become more determined to pursue their causes against all odds. This year’s laureates for the “LUI Che Woo Prize” share one common vision: “to contribute one’s modest effort towards the building of a better world and the promotion of world civilisation.”

Knowledge holds the key to changing one’s destiny. This year’s laureate for the Positive Energy Prize is the Pratham Education Foundation of India. Started at the impoverished slums of Mumbai, the Foundation has been focusing on high-quality and low-cost projects based on empirical approaches to address gaps in the education system for the past 23 years and improve the quality of education and teaching. Today, it has developed a nationwide presence in India, helping one million children to acquire basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills each year and its education model has been replicated in 16 countries. Their effort has contributed to a firmer foundation for our civilisation.

Global warming has resulted in ecological disasters across the globe recently. This year’s laureate for the Welfare Betterment Prize is the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). With firm commitment to its mission, WMO has worked incessantly over the past 50 years or more to drive cooperation among 191 member states and territories, formulating relevant standards and supervising policy implementation to improve global monitoring, forecast and communication and to enhance members’ ability in predicting disasters, issuing forecasts and warnings, so that all can prepare in a timely manner. The organisation has done an effective task in improving the welfare of humanity.

Reduction of carbon emission and development of renewable energy is a globally acknowledged objective. Mr. Hans-Josef Fell of Germany, laureate for this year’s Sustainability Prize, founded the first energy community worldwide to produce solar electricity in 1994 and jointly authored the draft and fought for the adoption by the German Parliament of the Renewable Energy Sources Act in 2000. Since then, the model of providing price subsidies to suppliers to lower their development cost through the collection of the renewable energy surcharge has been replicated in more than one hundred regions. Mr. Fell made sustainable energy development sustainable, he has been actively promoting 100% renewable energy worldwide.

In addition to promoting positive energy, the “LUI Che Woo Prize” provides an open and pluralistic platform for dialogue, exchange and cooperation in a global setting, procuring investigation into pressing issues and encouraging mutual understanding, so that difficulties can be addressed, conflicts can be avoided, and the environment and resources can be shared for all.

I would also like to call on esteemed members of the society to give more support to the “LUI Che Woo Prize” and its laureates, so that the positive ideas and deeds can reach out across more regions and a broader range of disciplines. In future, the “LUI Che Woo Prize” will continue to develop steadily. From next year onwards, no specific areas of concern will be named, such that the scope of work covered by each prize category will be broadened and more individuals and groups which have made significant contributions in different areas will have the chance to get the recognition they deserve.

呂志和獎－世界文明獎」於10月3日在香港舉行第三屆頒獎典禮，頒發「持續發展獎」、「人類福祉獎」及「正能量獎」三個獎項。在場近千名政府官員、學者、國家領事、商界精英、本地與國際媒體與賓客，共同見證獲獎者及獲獎機構獲得表彰，並分享建構更美好和諧世界的理念，宏揚正面、仁愛與和平的精神，願望共建世界文明。

行政長官林鄭月娥女士於頒獎典禮上發表演辭並向本年度「呂志和獎」的獲獎者致以祝賀，她說：「今年的獲獎者分別在消除文盲、降低天然災害的影響，以及發展可再生能源方面作出重大貢獻，並與『呂志和獎』的崇高理念同出一轍。」她續說：「香港特別行政區對於這項建基於呂志和博士的宏大視野及慷慨無私的付出，並在本港創立的國際性獎項深感自豪。」

2018年「持續發展獎」以「發展可再生能源」為關注領域，獲獎者漢斯 - 約瑟夫．費爾先生（Hans-Josef Fell）是全球可再生能源運動的先驅，1994年創立了全球首家太陽能發電合作社，改變了整個可再生能源市場。2000年更成功爭取德國議會通過《可再生能源法案》，議案隨後在全球多國被借鑑超過一百次，對全球實踐可再生能源起積極作用。

我一直以推動全球百分百採用可再生能源為終生目標。這次能夠獲頒『呂志和獎』實在是一項莫大榮譽，我相信獎項將可進一步加強我未來的工作，為人類締造一個可持續發展及和諧的世界，謝謝各位。

呂志和獎—世界文明獎」（簡稱「呂志和獎」）由呂志和博士於2015年9月24日創立，是一年一度的國際性跨界別創新獎項，旨在促進世界文明，並激勵世人建構更和諧的世界。獎項希望表揚在三大目標為人類文明做出恆久卓越貢獻的人士或團體，分別是促進世界資源可持續發展、促進世人福祉以及倡導積極正面人生觀及提升正能量以振奮人心。獲獎者並不局限於學者和科學家。「呂志和獎」不但表揚獲獎者造福人群之傑出成就，亦鼓勵其再接再厲，努力不懈，以延續愛人利物，博施濟眾之使命為己任。

On 24 September 2015, Dr Lui Che-woo launched the “LUI Che Woo Prize - Prize for World Civilisation” (“the LUI Che Woo Prize” or “the Prize”) which is an annual, first of its kind, international, cross-sector and innovative award for advancing world civilisation and inspiring people to build a more harmonious world. It aims to recognise and honour individuals or organisations all over the world for outstanding contributions in advancing welfare of mankind and encourages continuation of that work in three objectives: sustainable development of the world, betterment of the welfare of mankind and promotion of positive life attitude and enhancement of positive energy. The recipients are not being limited to academics and scientists. The LUI Che Woo Prize recognises accomplishments beneficial to mankind and also encourages them to keep up the momentum and inspire others to build a better world together.

The third Prize Presentation Ceremony of “The LUI Che Woo Prize - Prize for World Civilisation” (“the Prize”), comprising the Sustainability Prize, Welfare Betterment Prize and Positive Energy Prize, was successfully held on 3 October in Hong Kong. About a thousand guests, including government officials, academics, consuls, business elites and members of local and international media, attended the ceremony to witness the commendation of laureates in an event underpinned by the aspiration to advance world civilisation by fostering global harmony in the spirit of positive energy, charity and peace.

Selfless dedication of laureates praised by officiating guestsDr Lui Che-woo, Founder & Chairman of the Board of Governors cum Prize Council of the Prize, said in his address: “People from different corners of the world have traveled far to gather here this evening because of a shared vision and belief. The three laureates for this year’s “LUI Che Woo Prize” share our vision for a better world and have overcome difficulties with courage, wisdom, and selfless compassion to make exemplary contributions to the world in their respective areas of expertise, providing a great source of inspiration for those who aspire to help create a better future for all. We are glad that they are able to join us here today, and we are greatly honoured by their presence.”

The Hon. Mrs. Carrie Lam also extended her congratulations to this year’s laureates in her address at the ceremony. “Their singular contributions to the elimination of illiteracy, the reduction of the impact of natural disasters, and the development of renewable energy respectively, match perfectly the laudable mission of the ‘LUI Che Woo Prize,’” remarked Mrs. Lam. “The Hong Kong SAR is proud to have this home-grown international prize built on Dr. Lui's vision and generosity,” she said.

Scope of work will be broadened, more people will be considered for commendationWe are grateful for the immense support shown by government officials, academics, religious leaders, consuls, business elites and the local and international media since the inception of the “LUI Che Woo Prize” in 2015. Next year, a change will be introduced to “LUI Che Woo Prize 2019”, the forthcoming fourth edition of the award, by omitting the designation of specific areas of focus, such that the scope of work covered by each prize category will be broadened and more individuals and groups which have made significant contributions in different areas will have the chance to get the recognition they deserve. It is the hope of the “LUI Che Woo Prize” that, as the good work of the awardees are being commended, a positive message will be sent to all, in Asia and the rest of the world, such that we can work ceaselessly against all odds in selfless dedication to seek progress and prosperity with mutual respect, tolerance, goodwill and harmony.

Founded in 2015, the Prize is awarded in three categories: the Sustainability Prize, the Welfare Betterment Prize and the Positive Energy Prize.

Biographical Note of Laureates

The LUI Che Woo Prize 2018 in the Sustainability category, with “Development of Renewable Energy” as its Specific Area of Focus, was awarded to Hans-Josef Fell. Mr. Fell has been an environmental pioneer since the 1970s. He founded the world’s first energy community to produce solar power in 1994, transforming the market for renewable energy, and successfully fought for the adoption of the Renewable Energy Act in the German Parliament. This law has since been replicated over 100 times around the globe, contributing to changes in renewable energy practices worldwide. Building on his huge success in bringing Germany to be the world's first major renewable energy economy in 2000, he has since then been sharing best practices and negotiating with governments and parliaments worldwide to accelerate the global transition to 100% renewable energy, extending his impact to the global level.

World Meteorological Organization (WMO), laureate of the LUI Che Woo Prize 2018 in the Welfare Betterment category with a special focus on “Reduction of the

Impact of Natural Disasters”. WMO sets worldwide standards and provides the framework for international cooperation by supporting its 191 member states and territories to implement the adopted policies, leading to better monitoring, forecasting and communication of meteorological hazards on a global scale. Its persistent effort is pivotal in the tenfold reduction in global loss of life from extreme weather, climate and water-related events observed over the past half-century.

Pratham Education Foundation was awarded the LUI Che Woo Prize 2018 in the Positive Energy category with a specific area of focus on “Elimination of Illiteracy” for its dedication to improving quality of education and contributing to literacy attainment, Pratham directly helps one million children attain basic literacy and numeracy annually. Profoundly wedded to evidence-based models, it is now one of the largest NGOs in India and focuses on high-quality, low-cost interventions which address gaps in the education system. Through replicable, scalable models that emphasises on result-driven accountability, Pratham is able to achieve lasting and widely influential success in India’s educational landscape and beyond, creating an adaptable demonstration model for governments.

Spectacular choral performances “Go for Our Dreams” underpinning the theme of positive energyRenowned tenor Warren Mok was joined by junior orchestra and choristers trained by the Music Children Foundation (MCF) at the prize presentation ceremony, to perform inspirational songs and music in celebration of the new “LUI Che Woo Prize” laureates and their outstanding contributions to the creation of a better world. Mr. Mok rehearsed with the choristers, and orchestra who appreciated that as homegrown kids of Hong Kong they could realise whatever dreams they had so long as they worked hard for them, a belief in accord with the call for harmony and positive energy underpinning the LUI Che Woo Prize.“The Music Children Foundation” is a non-profit-making group that has provided free music education to hundreds of children from underprivileged families in Hong Kong to cultivate their core values, resonating with the broader vision of the LUI Che Woo Prize that every individual should have the opportunity to realise his or her dream.

呂志和博士北京大學名譽校董授予儀式暨「呂志和獎」座談會於北京大學成功召開

生命科學發展為國家培育科研人才北大校長林建華教授感謝呂博士對北大的慷慨支持，捐資1.2億人民幣成立「呂志和生命科學學院基金」建設生命科學科研大樓及開展創新研究，特意將生命科學科研樓命名為「呂志和樓」，並聘請呂博士擔任北大名譽校董，希望以呂博士的智慧和豐富的社會閱歷，參與學校的建設與發展。呂志和博士認為能夠成為北大的一份子是對自己89載人生的肯定和莫大鼓勵，他期待這份心意能結出中國生命科學事業的碩果，為國家和世界培養更多傑出人才，獻上更多科研福祉。

知名演講嘉賓交流觀點引發師生思考可持續發展呂志和博士、林建華教授、國家科學技術部前部長及「呂志和獎」遴選專責小組成員徐冠華教授、2017年「呂志和獎」持續發展獎獲獎者解振華先生、「呂志和獎」獎項推薦委員會成員及諾貝爾文學獎得主莫言博士、原全國政協民族和宗教委員會主任朱維群先生，全國政協常委及全國政協港澳臺僑委員會副主任耿惠昌先生，原全國文化藝術聯合會副主席覃志剛先生，以及多位來自政界、學界的專家學者，以「面向世界‧中國在推動可持續發展的角色、機遇和挑戰」為題，與逾二百名北大師生共同探討可持續發展的重要性。

解振華先生於座談會上表示，呂博士始終用行動踐行可持續發展理念，並為此持續行動、投入精力和堅定決心，「呂志和獎」向世界展現了中國企業家踐行和推動可持續發展的社會責任，也將帶動更多企業家投身於可持續發展事業，為建設美麗中國做出貢獻。莫言博士認為，呂博士堅信善念、善行，「呂志和獎」的設立旨在彌合物質與科技飛速發展對精神道德的衝擊，進而改善人與人、人與自然的關係，讓世人在追求和實現目標的同時，珍惜並享受世界的美好，促進社會和諧共榮，為他人、為子孫後代延續美好生活的基礎與環境，這是中國人對世界責任的承擔，對人類社會的貢獻。

許智宏院士認為，大學應培養和建立學生的可持續發展理念，每一個中國公民，特別是受過高等教育的公民，都應具有這樣的理念，從自身做起，從一點一滴做起，中國才有希望。饒子和院士表示，「呂志和獎」關注的是對人類的全面貢獻，其評審要求和水準都很高，未來將在國際上產生更大影響力。張東曉院士談及發展與可持續這兩者的密切聯繫、中美能源發展的未來合作前景和中國能源結構的調整方向。

Dr. Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group, was appointed Honorary Trustee of Peking University in recognition of his keen concern for the important contributions to the development of Peking University, as well as his effort to promote advancement in civilization and enhance the welfare of mankind. The Honorary Trustee Appointment Ceremony and the "LUI Che Woo Prize" symposium were held in June at Yingjie Exchange Center, Peking University. Dr. Mo Yan, a member of the Prize Recommendation Committee, Mr. Xie Zhenhua, laureate of the Sustainability Prize 2017 were invited to be the guest speakers and a number of experts and scholars from political and academic circles gathered with more than 200 teachers and students of Peking University to participate in the symposium.

Supporting the development of life sciences research and nurturing talents for the countryProf. Lin Jianhua, President of Peking University thanked Dr. Lui for his generous support of donating RMB 120 million to Peking University to set up the “Lui Che Woo School of Life Sciences Fund” and to construct a new Life Sciences building, continuing the pursuit of far-reaching and innovative research. The new life science research building is named “Lui Che Woo Building” and Dr. Lui is appointed Honorary Trustee of Peking University, in order to gather his wisdom and experience in fur ther support of the development of the university. Dr. Lui believes that becoming a member of Peking University is an affirmation and great endorsement of his 89-year life. He is looking forward to bringing great achievement to China in the area of life sciences, cultivating more outstanding talents and scientific research for the betterment of the country and the world.

Mr. Xie stated at the symposium that Dr. Lui has always practiced the vision of sustainable development, and he continues to take action, devote his energy, and strengthen his determination. The LUI Che Woo Prize shows that Chinese entrepreneurs take the social responsibility and promote sustainable development

and he believes the Prize will lead more entrepreneurs to engage in sustainable development and contribute to a beautiful China. Dr. Mo Yan said that Dr. Lui believes in good faith and good deeds. The establishment of the LUI Che Woo Prize aims to solve the impact of rapid development of materials and technology on morality, thereby improving the relationship between people, and between man and nature, so that individuals can pursue and achieve their goals, cherish and enjoy the beauty of the world, promote social harmony and common prosperity, and provide a better world for future generations. This is the Chinese people’s commitment to the world and its contribution to human society.

「呂志和獎」獎項推薦委員會成員莫言博士認為為他人、為子孫後代延續美好生活的基礎與環境是中國人對世界責任的承擔。Dr. Mo Yan, member of the Prize Recommendation Committee, said that providing a better world for future generations is the Chinese people's commitment to the world and its contribution to human society.

2017年「呂志和獎」持續發展獎獲獎者解振華先生表示「呂志和獎」向世界展現了中國企業家踐行和推動可持續發展的社會責任。Mr. Xie Zhenhua, Sustainability Prize laureate of the LUI Che Woo Prize in 2017, stated that LUI Che Woo Prize shows Chinese entrepreneurs take the social responsibility to promote sustainable development.

Prof. Xu Zhihong believes that universities should cultivate and encourage students to think about sustainable development. He suggested that every Chinese citizen, especially well-educated citizens, should have such a mindset, star ting from oneself, and that this is the only hope for the future of China. Prof. Rao Zihe said that the LUI Che Woo Prize focuses on the overall contribution to mankind through its high assessment requirements and standards. He also said that the Prize will have a greater influence in the international community in the future. Prof. Zhang Dongxiao then spoke about the close relationship between development and sustainability, the prospects for future cooperation in energy development between China and the United States, and the direction of China's energy structure adjustment.

呂志和博士於2017年向北京大學捐資1.2億元，成立「呂志和生命科學學院基金」助北大建設生命科學科研大樓，支援生命科學學院持續開展更具深遠意義和創新研究。為感謝呂博士對北大發展的熱忱關懷和重要貢獻，北京大學將新的生命科學科研樓命名為「呂志和樓」，並於今年六月假北大舉行簡單而隆重的「呂志和樓」揭幕儀式。

北大生命科學學院院長吳虹教授簡要介紹了「呂志和樓」的建設過程，並表示「呂志和樓」將為北大生命科學學者提供創新的樂園，從這裡將走出一批批年輕有為、有理想，能為中國和世界做貢獻的接班人和創造者，這座大樓將成為北大與世界生命科學交流合作的橋樑。在師生的見證下，呂志和博士及夫人、呂志和博士次子美國LUI Che Woo Char ity代表呂耀南、林建華校長、許智宏院士、吳虹院長共同點亮水晶球為「呂志和樓」揭幕，並為「呂志和樓」紀念銘牌揭幕。

「呂志和樓」簡介「呂志和樓」的總建築面積達26,900平方米，合共七層，其功能定位側重於現代生命科學的前沿交叉領域，以及為生命科學研究提供重要條件支援的高端設備平台，重點設施包括: 配合國家正努力不懈建設的最大的科學實驗平台–蛋白質科學研究(又稱「鳳凰工程」)、校級冷凍電鏡平臺、SPF級小動物平臺、冷室、細胞間、超低溫冰箱室等公共儀器間或專業實驗室。「呂志和樓」將對生命、認知與健康等前沿拓展具有無可比擬的作用和意義。

Dr. Lui encourages students to aim high and achieve as he shares his own storiesAt the unveiling ceremony, Dr. Lui shared how he had spent his childhood amidst the turmoil of war during his childhood and revealed the persistent driving force behind his ongoing support for education. “Peking University has always struck me as the institution which can make unique contributions to the renaissance of Chinese culture, a place where the glamour of our 5,000-year-old civilization will appeal to the world,” explained Dr. Lui. She described “Lui Che Woo Building” as a dream facility for innovative researches by the life scientists of Peking University, where young, aspiring inheritors and innovators capable of making contributions to China and the world will be groomed by the score, and where exchanges and cooperation in life sciences between Peking University and the world will be facilitated. Witnessed by members of the faculty and students, Dr. and Mrs. Lui, Mr. Lawrence Lui, younger son of Dr. Lui and representative of U.S. LUI Che Woo Charity, President Lin Jianhua, Mr. Xu Zhihong (Academician) and Dean Wu Hong lit up the crystal ball together and unveiled the commemorative plaque of the building to signify the official opening of “Lui Che Woo Building”.

Facts about “Lui Che Woo Building”“Lui Che Woo Building” comprises 7 levels with a total gross floor area of 26,900 square metres. It is functionally focused on frontier cross-disciplinary sectors in modern life sciences and provides a platform featuring high-end equipment to provide key support for researches in life sciences. The key facilities it houses include public apparatus chambers or specialized laboratories, such as the Center for Protein Sciences, being the largest scientific laboratory of its kind built in tandem with relevant national policies (the “Phoenix Project”), the university-grade Cryo-EM platform, the SPF-grade animal laboratory, the cooling chamber, the cell laboratory, and the ultra-low temperature freezer. The application and significance of “Lui Che Woo Building” for frontier research in life, cognitive and health sciences will be second to none.

Following Dr. Lui Che-woo’s RMB120 million donation to Peking University in 2017 for the establishment of the “Lui Che-woo School of Life Sciences Foundation” to fund the construction of the Life Sciences R&D Building at the University and support ongoing endeavours of the School of Life Sciences in profound and innovative researches, an unveiling ceremony for the new Life Sciences R&D Building, named “Lui Che Woo Building” in gratitude to Dr. Lui’s enthusiastic concern for and important contributions to the development of Peking University, was held in June at the University.

嘉華國際 2018 上半年已簽約銷售額創新高為未來盈利奠定堅實基礎

增派中期息展管理層信心並回饋股東2018年上半年，受到可入賬簽約銷售減少及香港財務報告準則15於今年生效所影響，集團可入賬之應佔營業額及核心盈利，分別下跌至6.79億港元及3,200萬港元；股東應佔溢利則錄得5.78億港元。惟董事會考慮到未入賬合約銷售總額及各項目良好的建設進度，增加中期股息20%至每股6港仙，以展示對集團穩步發展之信心，並持續為股東帶來穩定回報。

集團維持良好的財務狀況。縱使面對市場利率上升之趨勢，嘉華國際於上半年平均借貸息率為2.3%，較去年全年只是微升0.3個百分點。

KWIH 1H2018 Record-high unrecognized attributable contracted sales

Providing solid base for future profitabilityK. Wah International Holdings Limited (“KWIH” or “the Group”), recorded satisfactory sales as a result of its sound and shrewd strategies deployed in Hong Kong and Mainland China project launches during the first half of the year. As at 30 June 2018, unrecognised attributable contracted sales exceeded HK$18.5 billion, mainly accounted for by K. City and Solaria in Hong Kong, The Palace in Shanghai, The Peak and Royal Creek in Nanjing, J Metropolis and Le Palais in Guangzhou and Silver Cove in Dongguan. Upon delivery of possession of the pre-sold units to buyers for these projects after completion expected to be in the next 24 months, the contracted sales will be recognised, thereby underpinning the Group’s future profits.

Dr. Lui Che-woo, Chairman of KWIH, believed that the Hong Kong’s residential property market remained buoyant due to its strong economic fundamentals and market demands, while in Mainland China the Central Government is committed to sustaining stable development of the property market. On the back of its experience in property development in the Mainland China market and the competitive advantages from our commitment to quality and excellence, the Group is well-positioned to address any challenges by adopting flexible development strategies.

Growth in interim dividend underlines management confidence and commitment to rewarding shareholdersFor the first half of 2018, given that less contracted sales were recognised and the Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards 15 became effective this year, the attributable revenue and the underlying profit dropped to HK$679 million and HK$32 million respectively. Profit attributable to equity holders amounted to HK$578 million. Considering the total amount of unrecognised attributable contracted sales and the good progress of project development, the Board of Directors increased the interim dividend to 6 HK cents per share, up 20% year-on-year, showing strong confidence it had in the Group’s stable development and its ongoing efforts to provide shareholders stable returns.

投資性物業遞增提供理想租金收入集團於2017年中推出高端服務式公寓「尚臻徐匯」兩座，以及其他新增投資性物業，帶動上半年租金收入(包括酒店)同比大增25%，至逾3.25億港元。商業設施方面，香港特色零售餐飲物業J SENSES錄得100%出租率；上海嘉御里和東莞星際匯，開始投入營運，出租率達理想水平，至於屬甲級寫字樓的上海嘉華中心，期內錄得出租率達95%之佳績。

未來，嘉華國際會密切留意環球政經局勢，審慎及積極去面對機遇與挑戰，同時繼續有度有序地執行發展計劃，並以穩健策略增添土儲，推動業務發展，為股東帶來理想回報。

The Group maintained sound financial position. In a rising interest-rate environment, KWIH managed to maintain the average interest rate at 2.3% during the period, slightly up by 0.3 percentage points compared to the 2017 annual average.

New development projects to be rolled out to fuel future growthThe Group will continue to expand its business presence with a flexible development strategy. We have acquired 4 new projects with a total attributable GFA of around 250,000 sqm in Kunshan, Suzhou, Jiangmen and Dongguan respectively, by way of joint venture or sole investment.

For the second half of the year, the Group is actively preparing for the application of pre-sale consent for its second project in Kai Tak, for which foundation works are underway. In Shanghai, preparations are being made to launch Windermere while Azure and The Palace III – Le Haut will be launched, subject to market conditions.

Expanding recurrent income property portfolio is set to increase rental incomeRental income (including hotels) for the first half of the year grew substantially by 25% year-on-year, to HK$325 million, following the launch of 2 towers of Stanford Residences Xu Hui, our high-end serviced apartment opened in mid-2017, as well as additional investment properties put to lease. On the commercial front, J SENSES, our specialty retail and dining complex in Hong Kong, registered 100% occupancy rate. Palace Lane in The Palace, Shanghai and J Town in Silver Cove, Dongguan reported satisfactory occupancy rates as operations commenced, while Shanghai K. Wah Centre, our Grade-A office tower, was 95% leased during the period.

Looking ahead, we will keep our development plan on track and replenish land reserves with a robust strategy to drive business development and provide our shareholders with satisfactory returns.



銀娛受惠歷來最佳季度中場表現 2018第二季經調整 EBITDA按年上升 32%

銀河娛樂集團有限公司（「銀娛」或「集團」），於2018年8月8日公佈截至2018年6月30日止之第二季度及中期業績。

銀娛努力不懈推動各項業務增長，提高渡假城的營運收益，第二季經調整EBITDA 錄得歷來最佳成績，達43億港元，按年上升32%，屬連續第十個季度錄得按年增長。縱使期內淨贏率偏低以致經調整EBITDA減少1.3億港元，六至七月份舉行的世界盃賽事曾對博彩收益構成短暫負面影響，然而，憑著持續完善現有及新增項目，重新調配資源以達致最佳效益，銀娛仍再創佳績，第二季經調整EBITDA按季有輕微增長，擺脫向來低於首季的季節性表現。旗下所有豪華酒店的第二季入住率全部接近100%。

回顧2018上半年，集團淨收益按年上升25%至281億港元，經調整EBITDA按年上升34%至86億港元，股東應佔溢利為72億港元，按年增長56%。期內，「澳門銀河™」之貴賓廳及中場博彩收益，分別按年增加45%及17%。非博彩收益為16億港元，按年上升11%。

於本年4月，銀娛已派發第一次特別股息，每股0.41港元，並宣佈於結算日後，即10月26日派發另一次特別股息每股0.50港元，兩次合共分派的特別股息總額為39.3億港元，較去年全年大增5 6 %，實踐了銀娛對股東的承諾，把資本回饋股東的同時，對澳門及集團的長期前景增長抱有充份的信心。

資產負債表穩健流動性充裕截至2018年6月30日，銀娛持有現金及流動投資達429億港元，淨現金為343億港元。負債為86億港元，較去年12月底減少11.35億港元。穩健的資產負債表讓銀娛有能力透過派息把盈利回饋股東，亦可以實現集團的發展藍圖以及到海外拓展的目標。

具前瞻視野拓展增長清晰的發展藍圖銀娛正積極推進路氹的第三、四期項目，聚焦於非博彩業務，提供約4,500間酒店客房，包括適合家庭和優質高端的酒店、廣闊的會議展覽空間、設有16,000個座位的多用途場館、餐飲、零售以及娛樂場等。集團陸續推進橫琴發展的概念規劃，興建低密度綜合渡假城，以使其與澳門的高能量娛樂項目優勢互補。在本年四月，銀娛亦以逾72億港元，完成向永利渡假村作出的4.9%非參與性少數股權投資。

集團銳意開拓並積極發掘海外發展機遇，包括日本及菲律賓等地，集團對於日本在2018年7月，通過綜合渡假區實施法案感到十分鼓舞，並將抓緊此長遠而重要的機遇，夥拍摩納哥公國的『蒙地卡羅濱海渡假酒店集團』以及日本的合作伙伴，將世界級綜合渡假區概念帶到當地，與澳門業務相輔相成，並致力推動澳門經濟多元化發展，支持政府將澳門建設成為「世界旅遊休閒中心」的目標。

GEG posts 32% growth in adjusted EBITDA for Q2 2018 on the back of record quarterly performance in mass gaming

Galaxy Entertainment Group Limited (“GEG” or “the Group”) announced on 8 August 2018 its second quarterly results for the three months ended and interim results for the six months ended 30 June 2018.

GEG reported its best-ever quarterly adjusted EBITDA of HK$4.3 billion, representing a 32% year-on-year increase and year-on-year growth in quarterly results for the 10th consecutive three-month period, thanks to its incessant effort to drive business growth across the board and enhancing revenue from the resorts. Despite wins paid out in its gaming operations during the period resulting in a HK$130 million decrease in adjusted EBITDA and the short-term negative impact on gaming caused by the World Cup held during June to July, GEG managed to deliver another feat of excellent results with mild growth in Q2 adjusted EBITDA over the previous quarter defying the seasonal pattern of Q2 being traditionally softer than Q1. All luxury hotels under the Group reported Q2 occupancy rates of close to 100%.

For the first six months of 2018, the Group’s net revenue increased by 25%, year-on-year, to HK$28.1 billion. Adjusted EBITDA increased by 34% to HK$8.6 billion, while profit attributable to shareholders increased by 56% to HK$7.2 billion, year-on-year. For the period, Galaxy Macau™ reported year-on-year growth of 45% and 17% in net wins from VIP gaming and mass gaming, respectively. Non-gaming revenue amounted to HK$1.6 billion, increasing by 11%, year-on-year.

The first special dividend of HK$0.41 per share declared by GEG was paid in April. On 26 October subsequent to the balance sheet date, GEG declared a further special dividend of HK$0.50 per share. The two payments of special dividend totaled HK$3.93 billion, representing a substantial increase of 56% over the full-year dividend paid for the previous year. The special dividend payments underlined GEG’s commitment to rewarding shareholders with capital returns, as well as its confidence in the long-term prospect and growth of Macau and the Group.

A solid balance sheet with ample liquidityAs at 30 June 2018, cash and liquid investments held by GEG amounted to HK$42.9 billion and net cash amounted to HK$34.3 billion. Net liabilities amounted to HK$8.6 billion, a decrease of HK$1,135 million compared to the end of December. With a solid balance sheet, GEG is well-positioned to pursue its development plans and goals in overseas expansion while sharing its profit with shareholders through dividend payments.

A visionary blueprint for development with clear growth objectivesRegarding future development, GEG was vigorously advancing the development of Cotai Phases 3 & 4 with a strong focus on non-gaming facilities. The new phases will provide approximately 4,500 hotel rooms, including family and premium high end rooms, extensive MICE space, a 16,000-seat multi-purpose arena, F&B, retail and casinos, among others. The Group continued to make progress in its conceptual plan for a low-density integrated resort in Hengqin to complement its high-energy entertainment resorts in Macau. In April, GEG completed the acquisition of a 4.9% passive minority equity interest in Wynn Resorts for a consideration in excess of HK$7.2 billion.

The Group has been keenly exploring and identifying opportunities for developments in international destinations, such as Japan and the Philippines. Encouraged by the passing of the IR Bill in Japan in July 2018, the Group seized this important opportunity for long-term development and teamed up Monte-Carlo SBM from the Principality of Monaco and Japanese partners to introduce GEG’s brand of World Class IRs to Japan to complement its Macau business. GEG also remains committed to the diversification of Macau’s economy and supports the government’s objective to build the city into a “World Centre of Tourism and Leisure”.

全方位照顧學習和就業需要「五邑大學校董會學生綜合服務中心大樓」是學校的重點項目之一，由著名建築設計師何鏡堂院士領銜設計，樓高三層，建築面積約3,500平方米。內部設有「學生學業指導與服務中心」、「心理教育服務中心」、「就業指導與服務中心」、「招生服務中心和校友服務中心」等設施，照顧學習和就業上全方位的需要，充分體現呂志和博士等創校者「一切為了學生」之人才培養和服務理念。

不遺餘力夥五邑大學作育英才五邑大學黨委書記張焜教授衷心感謝呂博士多年來的大力支持。自呂博士2008年出任五邑大學主席後，一直帶領海內外鄉親推動大學建設和發展。在建校之初，已主動捐資興建呂志和禮堂與呂志和科技樓等教學樓宇。近年，呂博士又帶領「香港五邑大學教育基金會」把基金會多年積累的基金資產，悉數贈予五邑大學建設學生宿舍，並把每年扣除成本後產生的收益，支持五邑大學助學、獎學以及其他發展事項，使五邑大學在30年間發展成一所現代化的大學校園。

Created by renowned architectural designer He Jingtang and his team, the building has a GFA of approximately 3,500 square meters over three levels. It houses the “Academic Guidance and Service Centre”, “Educational Psychology Service Centre”, “Career Guidance and Service Centre” and “Admission Service Centre and Alumni Service Centre” to take care of various needs of students in learning and career, underlining the notion of “All for Students” in the effort of Dr. Lui and other founders of the university to nurture and serve talents.

Sparing no efforts in partnership with Wuyi University to nurture talentsProfessor Zhang expressed sincere gratitude to Dr. Lui’s donations. Since becoming Chairman of the Wuyi University Board in 2008, Dr. Lui has been leading efforts of overseas and local natives to drive the development of the University. During the early years, donations were made for the construction of academic blocks such as the Lui Che Woo Hall and the Lui Che Woo Technology Building. Recently, the “Wuyi University Education Foundation of Hong Kong” under the leadership of Dr. Lui donated its accrued assets in full to Wuyi University to fund the construction of students’ residences. The net annual income of the Foundation was also directed to the University to provide grants and scholarships and funding for other development projects which turned Wuyi University into a modernised college campus over the past 30 years.

As a longstanding companion for art development in Hong Kong, KWIH was honoured with the “Award for Arts Sponsorship” in the “Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2017” presented by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in May as a testimony to public recognition of our substantial contribution to the promotion of the art of opera.

In line with its objective of “benefiting the society with what has been earned from the society”, KWIH has served as the honorary patron of Opera Hong Kong (OHK) since 2013. With the support of KWIH, OHK has launched a promotional initiative entitled “Opera Everywhere”: more operatic performances have been held for the young audience, while education and outreach programs have been organised to train vocal talents for the operatic community. The “K. Wah International Vocal Scholarship”, meanwhile, has played its part in helping local talents to develop into professional singers by sponsoring outstanding undergraduates and graduates to study abroad, so that they can broaden their scope and enhance their performance skills.

This year, the Group continued to support OHK by sponsoring the performance of “Carmen”, the classic opera in four acts by renowned French composer Georges Bizet jointly presented by OHK and “Le French May” on show at Hong Kong Cultural Centre for 5 days from 16 May. The cast featured internationally renowned artists who collaborated to bring this timeless story about liberty, freedom, fate and passion to life.

To help promote the art of opera in Hong Kong and sustain art development in general, KWIH launched an interactive game on the social media and gave away complimentary tickets of opera to winners. The offering was met with enthusiastic response, and it was the hope of the Company that such programs and activities would enhance Hong Kong’s image as a metropolitan city.

To recruit talents in Hong Kong and Mainland China in preparation for business development in the Greater Bay Area for its immense opportunities, KWIH participated in the open talent recruitment gala entitled “Innovating Hong Kong - Global Talent Carnival”, a 2-day event which also featured IT forums and workshops. Over 1,000 job openings were available from the host of local and foreign companies appearing at the event. KWIH’s offering of numerous positions providing excellent opportunities in career development for high-calibre people was, unsurprisingly, met with enthusiastic response. Our department heads were present at the event to brief potential applicants on the prospects of the Group’s future business development in the Greater Bay Area.

銀娛成為澳門首家使用電動巴士的博彩營運商 GEG launches the first electric bus of Macau’s gaming operators

銀娛首辦「環保、健康及安全意識培養週」GEG organises “Environmental, Health & Safety Education & Awareness Week” for the first time

銀娛率先於2017年年底引入電動巴士，經試行後於今年年初正式投入服務，於關閘專線接載遊客，成為首家運行電巴的博彩營運商。相比柴油巴士，電巴以純電力驅動，擁有節能、零排放和降噪音三大優點，不但能減少空氣污染，更可節省能源成本。銀娛計劃逐步增加電巴數量，以支持澳門特區政府的環境保護政策，及配合世界環保發展趨勢。

銀娛首次舉辦「環保、健康及安全意識培養週」，以問答比賽及與多個政府部門和專業機構合辦的各類分享講座，加深團隊在職安健及環保方面的知識和意識。活動更獲澳門勞工事務局局長黃志雄到場參觀當中的展覽，以示支持。

GEG organised an “Environmental, Health & Safety Education & Awareness Week” for the first time to enhance staff knowledge and awareness in occupational health and safety and environmental protection through quizzes and talks arranged with the support of various government departments and professional agencies. Wong Chi Hong, Director of the Labour Affairs Bureau of Macau, visited our exhibition in person in support of the event.

GEG pioneered in the introduction of electric buses in late 2017 and officially put into service to run the Border Gate route, making GEG the first gaming operator in Macau to provide transportation with an electric bus. The electric bus is driven solely by electric power and compares favourably with diesel bus in terms of energy conservation, zero emission and noise reduction. In addition to reducing air pollution, the electric bus could also contribute to savings in energy consumption costs. GEG has plans to increase the number of electric buses as to support the environmental protection initiatives of the Macau SAR Government as well as global environmental trends.

Marriot t SOMA Mission Bay Hotel位處米慎灣第3街和Channel街優越地段，鄰近AT&T球場；整個項目樓高17層，包括250間酒店客房、餐廳、酒吧及商務會議室，預計於2020年夏天落成。不論是看球賽前小喝一杯，或週末相約三五知己享受下午茶，屆時勢必成為區內熱點。此外，酒店延續其對藝術文化的支持，預留二百萬美元用作添置公共藝術作品，藉以推動區內藝術發展。

The foundation stone laying ceremony for Marriott SOMA Mission Bay Hotel, the debut development of U.S. Stanford Hotels Corporation in Mission Bay, San Francisco, was held in March and officiated by Lawrence Lui, President of Stanford Hotels Corporation, Mark Farrell, former Mayor of San Francisco, and other guests.

Marriott SOMA Mission Bay Hotel is situated at a prestigious site at the junction of Third Street and Channel Street in Mission Bay not far away from AT&T Park. The 17-storey hotel, scheduled for completion in the summer of 2020 with 250 guest rooms, diners, bars and conference facilities, is set to become a popular rendezvous in the area for drinks before the game or afternoon delights with friends. In line with its continued support for art and culture, the hotel has set aside US$ 2 million for the purchase of public art works as part of its effort to promote artistic development in the area.

GEG was named a Best IR Company (Large Cap) for the third year in a row at the HKIRA Investor Relations Awards 2018 organised by the Hong Kong Investor Relations Association, with Vice Chairman Francis Lui capturing the Best IR by Chairman/CEO (Large Cap) Award, while KWIH won the Best IR Company (Mid Cap) Award for the first time. Decided through online voting participated by over 600 members of the financial and investing community, including local and international buy- / sell-side analysts and fund managers, such awards have been a strong recognition for the clarity of GEG’s and KWIH’s corporate structures and policies with well-defined responsibilities for the management and the directors, allowing the groups to carry out timely, accurate and highly transparent communication with shareholders and potential investors in a diligent effort to safeguard shareholders’ interests. Accolades garnered by K. The first Global Gaming Expo (G2E) Asia Awards event was jointly hosted by G2E Asia and the “Inside Asian Gaming” magazine. Decided through rigorous adjudication by 40 leading figures engaged in different aspects of Asia’s gaming industry, the awards were highly recognised within the industry and in the international market as a commendation of companies and entities who have made outstanding contributions to the gaming industry in Asia. Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer, Macau for Galaxy Entertainment Group, believed the accolades had reaffirmed Galaxy Macau’s status as a world-class integrated resort and pledged to continue to broaden the range of premium entertainment experiences provided in the future.

銀娛於香港《鏡報》舉辦的第七屆兩岸四地傑出企業社會責任獎頒獎典禮中再度獲頒「傑出企業社會責任獎」，備受社會各階層人士的認同，肯定了集團多年來在企業社會責任工作的努力。評選顧問委員會由11名來自不同專業領域的專家組成，根據「股東承擔」、「顧客承諾」、「員工關愛」、「社會聯繫」、「環境保護」及「領導能力」等方面，為兩岸四地的企業評審。

銀娛於暑假以「走進銀河之家，您的第二個家」為主題，舉辦「後勤親子遊2018」，邀請團隊成員帶同家屬參觀後勤區。四場活動共吸引近20個部門，逾200名團隊成員及家屬參與。參觀團先後到達花房、制服房、員工餐廳、員工診所和團隊成員服務中心等區域進行參觀，冀讓員工子女深入認識其工作環境，並透過參觀和介紹，拉近彼此距離，推動家庭和諧。

GEG won the “Outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility Award” again at the “7th Cross-Strait-Four-Region Outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility Award Ceremony” hosted by The Mirror Post of Hong Kong. The award indicated public recognition across the board for the Group’s effort in corporate social responsibility over the years. The adjudication advisory committee was formed by 11 experts from different professions, as corporations from four places were assessed on the basis of “Obligations Towards Shareholders”, “Commitment to Customers”, “Caring of Employees”, “Community and Society Relations”, “Environmental Protection” and “Leadership Ability”.

GEG organised “Galaxy Macau Family Tour 2018” during summer vacation under the theme of “Welcome to Heart of House - Your Second Home”, as staff members were invited to bring their families to visit the back-of-house areas. Staff members from some 20 departments signed up their families for the event, with a total of more than 200 people attending the 4 sessions of visit. The tour took them to the Floral Shop, Wardrobe Department, staff canteen, staff clinic and Team Member Services Center. The children of the staff had the opportunity to learn more about the workplace of their parents, while the visit enhanced family harmony by people closer through the engaging activity.

For the fifth year in a row, staff representatives of the Shanghai Office paid a visit to the “CereCare Wellness Centre for Children”, a non-profit-making private institution in Xuhui District providing rehabilitative education for children suffering from celebral paisy. The volunteers brought monetary donations, gifts and an inspirational song to the children, while staying with them during the rehab lessons.

Our Nanjing staff representatives went to “Nanjing Guxiong Primary School” to learn about the home and school life of the students, presented festive gifts and shared with them the books they had read. The kids in return performed some of the ethnic music they had learned, as all spent a delightful and meaningful time together.

銀娛十分重視人才培育，於七月與澳門理工學院合辦「銀娛理工博彩業專才發展嘉許典禮暨培訓計劃啟動儀式」，宣佈開展專才培訓計劃。計劃將為約7,000名員工提供專業資格課程，協助提升其專業知識及工作能力；活動當日亦頒發畢業證書予完成「博彩管理文憑課程」的近50位銀娛團隊成員，肯定他們的學習成果。

In line with its strong emphasis on the training of talents, GEG announced the launch of a professional training programme at the “GEG-MPI Gaming Professional Development Recognition Ceremony and Position Certification Launch” held in association with Macao Polytechnic Institute in July. The programme offers professional qualification courses to approximately 7,000 employees to help them enhance their professional knowledge and skills. At the ceremony, graduation certificates were also awarded to some 50 GEG staff who had completed the “Gaming Management Diploma” course in recognition of their achievements in learning.

KWIH sponsored the “Walk for The Green Earth 2018” walkathon fundraising event to support the promotion of the “no wastage” green attitude. K. Wah staff and their families and friends were among the enthusiastic walkers who completed the 11-km challenge from Pak Tam Chong to High Island Reservoir in Sai Kung. On the way, they enjoyed the beauty of the glorious night sky with glittering stars, while reflecting on the environmental implications of long hours of powered light in the city.

嘉華集團於五月舉行週年晚宴，與在場逾550名集團員工及嘉賓分享過去一年的成果，場面熱鬧。晚會以嘉年華為主題，場內除了有遊樂場經典遊戲「擲彩虹」外，還設有多個民間工藝攤位，包括懷舊龍鬚糖和麵粉公仔，讓嘉賓及同事們回味昔日的香港情懷。

More than 550 staff and guests attended K. Wah Group’s annual staff party in May in a lively celebration of the Group’s achievements in the past year. The evening was run as a carnival event, where game corners and folk art stalls offering traditional games such as “rainbow throws” and oldies but goodies such as “dragon-beard” candies and dough figurines were set up, as guests and colleagues took a trip down memory lane to reminisce Hong Kong of the old times.

Dr. Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group thanked the staff for their hard work in his welcoming speech. “On behalf of the management, I would like to express sincere appreciation to you all, whose united effort has contributed to another year of sound overall operating results for the Company. To show appreciation for the hard work of their staff during the past year, both hotels under the Group organised thanksgiving week events. 嘉華國際致力培育人才，在為期兩個月的「嘉華實習生計劃」，安排16位大學生分別在香港總部、上海及廣州辦公室進行培訓，汲取在職實戰經驗，全面了解集團的企業文化，體驗多元化且富挑戰性的工作環境。計劃更特別安排實習生到上海及南京的發展項目考察，與當地管理層交流，了解行業情況及中港兩地發展房地產的分別。

K. Wah Group featured in the annual dragon boat race again as the “Mixed-gender Team” formed by KWIH and Stanford Hotels International staff contested the “Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships 2018” alongside a number of local and international sides. They were cheered heartily by members of the KWIH staff and management, as well as relatives and friends who came to support them. In the three-day tournament of the Macau International Dragon Boat Race 2018, the GEG dragon boat teams took home two first runner-up and three third runner-up titles.

KWCM organised a two-week internship programme during July in partnership with Fung Kai No. 1 Secondary School. Five Form-four students were assigned to different departments and plants and received individual on-job training by KWCM staff to enhance their knowledge and skills in the profession. The student interns also visited several KWCM production plants and spoke with Joseph Chee Ying Keung, Managing Director, to gain further insights on the industry.

嘉華建材與鳳溪第一中學合辦學生實習計劃KWCM Internship Programme in partnership with Fung Kai No. 1 Secondary School

In line with its commitment to nurturing talents, KWIH arranged internships for 16 university students at its Hong Kong Headquarters, Shanghai Office and Guangzhou Office as part of the “K. Wah Internship Programme” which lasted for 2 months. The interns garnered experience what real-life working was like in diversified and challenging environments, while gaining insights into the Group’s corporate culture. Special arrangements were made for the interns to visit property projects in Shanghai and Nanjing and meet with the local management, so that they could have insights on developments in the industry and how property development in Mainland China is different from that in Hong Kong.
