These schools were selected by an independent panel of judges from the fi elds of both education and the military. Their selections are based on each institution’s favorable policies toward our men and women in uniform.

We invited over 2000 colleges and universities to participate in this year’s honors. This year’s response exceeded our expectations and is indicative of the attention being paid to our men and women in uniform by America’s institutions of higher learning. Due to the extensive number of returned submissions, the decision was made to double the number of schools that will be honored in 2008 from 30 to 60.

As a further tribute to those schools whose military-friendly policies set the gold standard for this honor, the judges have singled out Military Advanced Education’s 2008 Top 20 Schools for further distinction. We experienced several ties for this honor and, consequently, you will fi nd 22 schools listed in the Top 20 Schools group.

We would like it to be known that all 60 schools selected for the 2008 Honor Roll scored very high or they would not have been selected. In fact, the difference between the Top 20 Schools and the other schools selected is equivalent to the numerical difference between an A+ and an A-, to use an educational analogy. In other words, all 60 schools scored very high or they would not have been selected.

COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY-PUEBLO

Olympic College was awarded membership in the Navy College Program Distant Learning Partnership program. We have created the AAS in leadership and occupational Studies and AAS in information system specialist degrees that award credit for military training. Responding to demand, in fall 2008 we will launch a new environmental science program to help veterans get training in green jobs. Our Veteran Services Office is proactively preparing for the implementation of the new G.I. Bill in 2009.

HAWAI’I PACIFIC UNIVERSITY

HPU educates about 3,000 military affiliated students with an annual enrollment of about 16,000 at all Oahu major military installations and globally through online courses. JACKSONVILLE UNIVERSITY

The NROTC unit provides an avenue for college students to earn a commission as an officer in either the Navy or Marine Corps. NROTC midshipmen are eligible to earn a full scholarship, with tuition paid by the Navy and room and board paid by Jacksonville University. Active Duty Navy and Marine Corps Enlisted Personnel may apply to attend the university through the Seaman-to-Admiral 21 (STA-21) and Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Programs (MECEP) respectively. STA-21, MECEP and NROTC midshipmen participate together in unit activities.

SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE PROFESSIONAL STUDIES

SC makes it simple….there’s no charge for transfer hours, no proctored exams, and military personnel can take classes when convenient and sit out sessions when needed. SC transfers up to 64 hours of military training toward a bachelor’s degree and will consider military training that has been evaluated at the graduate level to count toward a master’s degree.
