INTRODUCTION

During December, 1984, an airborne geophysical survey

(mag/HLEM/VLF) was flown over a group of 492 contiguous claims in

Teh, Foote, Herbert and Roberta, collectively known as the

Aquarius Resources Joint Venture (see Figure 1).

Based on geological mapping and various geophysical and

geochemical follow—up surveys performed.during 1983 — 84, only

three small claim groups were retained of the original block.

This report summarizes geological mapping of the

retained blocks and trench-testing of ground-located geophysical

anomalies* Reports covering details of the airborne survey and

subsequent follow-up have been submitted previously*f—

[ GEOLOGY

T" Regional Settingl : — ———————————

All three claim groups were mapped geologically during

i 1983 using claim lines for control. Detailed mapping was

^ performed on small cut grids during 1984 to determine thet \

' geological setting of various AEM responses and has been reported

[~~ on previously.i

Regionally, all three claim groups cover portions of a

major, northeast-trending mafic metavolcanic sequence,

^ tentatively correlated with the footwall "Hornblende Schisti

Group" of the Geco Mine Series. The sequence includes numerous

f irregular-shaped gabbro/anorthosite bodies and narrow

intercalations of fine, volcaniclastic metasediments.

All lithologies have locally been partially

^ "granitized", the entire sequence is flanked to the south by

granitic rocks. Major and minor diabase dykes intrude the

^~ sequence.

The Wagush Lake group occurs on the north-south

trending limb of a major open flexure developed in the sequence

that has apparently not affected the Mine Series host

i equivalents, adjacent to the north.

Wagush Lake Groupr~

l The Wagush Lake group covers a north—south trending,

,— moderately east-dipping sequence dominated by mafic metavolcanics

(1). Lithologies include, in decreasing order of abundance:

H hornblende-feldspar gneiss (le), laminated hornblende schisti t..(Ib), massive to pillowed flows (la) and massive hornblendite

i (le). Although intermixed to some degree, lithology le occurs

— predominantly on the west side of the claim group

1 (stratigraphically downsection?) and lithology Ib on the east*

i~ A 50—100 m wide unit of volcaniclastic metasedimentsj

(5) occurs just west of Wagush Lake and is traceable southwards

l for approximately 1.5 km. The continuity of the unit is obscured

^ by overburden to both north and south. Constituent lithologies

; include hornblende-feldspar-quartz gneiss (5f) and quartz-

H feldspar-biotite gneiss.i

The western edge of the claim group is dominantly

' underlain by weakly foliated felsic crystalline rocks:

^ hornblende and/or biotite granite (lOb, lOa respectively). Mafic

volcanics near the granitic body are locally migmatitic (1m).

"~ The eastern edge of the claim group is dominantly

underlain by massive to weakly foliated mafic crystalline rock:

i gabbro (8b).

^ Iron formations of various compositions (oxide facies -

6b, sulphide facies - 6c, stratabound sulphides - 6f) occur at

rtwo discrete stratigraphic positions: completely enveloped in

mafic volcanics in the southwest corner of the claim group (AEM

Zone 16) and related to the metasedimentary unit west of Wagush

Lake (AEM Zone 15).

Foch River Group

The Foch River claim group covers an approximate l km

east-west strike length of interbedded mafic metavolcanics (1)

and metasediments (5), situated between two major elongate gabbro

bodies (8).

Bedrock exposure on the claims is poor except in the

northeast corner, which is predominantly underlain by gabbro.

Claim group geology is therefore mostly inferred from adjacent

areas.

Mafic metavolcani^cs dominate the northern half of the

claim group. The southern half covers a variety of massive

felsic lithologies that have been mapped as quartz—feldspar

gneiss (5a) and felsic volcanic flow rock (3d).

No sulphide occurrences were noted durng the course of

mapping.

Foch Lake Group

The Foch Lake claim group covers an east-west trending,

predominantly steeply south-dipping sequence of, from south to

north (s tratigraphically upwards?): volcaniclastic metasediments

(5), massive gabbro (8) and mafic metavolcanics (1). The

southerly metasediment unit includes: quartz-feldspar-biotite

- * - ; 7r- , *gneiss (5b3, biotite-feldspar-quartz gneiss/schist and minor

•hornblende-feldspar-quartz gneiss (5f).

The gabbro unit represents the eastern end of a major

east-west elongate body occurring at this sediment/mafic Volcanic

contact along a strike length of approximately 4 km.

The northern mafic metavolcanic unit consists

predominantly of hornblende-feldspar gneiss (le) with minor

laminated hornblende schist (Ib). Within this volcanic unit

occurring approximately 300 m north of the gabbro, is a 50-75 m

wide mixed sedimentary unit, consisting of garnetiferous biotitic

gneiss (5d), quartz-feldspar gneiss (5a), hornblende-feldspar-

quartz gneiss (5f) and minor biotite-feIdspar-quartz gneiss/

schist (5c).

Granitic lithologies (lOa, b), including pegmatitic

phases (lOc), occur in all of the above units.

A single showing of oxide facies iron formation (6b)

occurs within the mafic volcanic unit, approximately 150 m north

of the gabbro, and appears related to AEM Zone 6.

TRENCHING

Mechanical Methods

Three areas within the Wagush Lake claim group, across

or adjacent to AEM zones 15 and 16 were stripped of overburden,

washed and channel sampled. Overburden stripping was done with

either bulldozer (JD 450C) or manually with grubhoes, depending

on access and local terrain conditions.

Bedrock was washed with water utilizing a portable

Kornelite WP-20 pump and channel sampled with a Stihl TS-350 "Quik

Cut" powersaw equipped with a diamond - impregnated blade.

Fourteen (14) - one meter samples were taken from two

sections across AEM Zone 15 on claim IB 711025 (Figure 6).

A total of 36 - one meter samples were taken from six

sections adjacent to AEM Zone 16 on claims TB 703352 and TB

703353 (Figures 7, 8). The axis of the conductor could not be

sampled because of restrictive overburden thickness. Those

sections sampled represent an adjacent, apparently parallel

sulphide zone.

Results

All samples but two (2) were assayed for Au, Cu, Zn and

Ag at Warnock Hersey Professional Services in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Two samples were assayed for Au only.

All channel samples returned nil to trace Au except one

which contained 0.01 oz/ton. Ag was nil to trace in all samples.

Cu returned a maximum of Q.24% from the south end of the

mineralized zone associated with AEM Zone 16. All samples

returned only trace Zn.

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Sampling of mineralized zone associated with the

strongest AEM conductors has failed to indicate significantly

anomalous concentrations of Au, Cu, Zn or Ag.

Previous soil geochemical sampling across another

conductor has likewise yielded negative results.
