Scope Of This Manual:This manual describes and

provides instructions andparts list for the LINC 282and LINC 282SC SeriesPneumatic Level Control.

Installation:Before installing the level

control, inspect the unit forany damage. Also check theclearance in the piping foroperation. The float on thestandard unit (282-11) musthave 2 3/4" minimum clear-ance for the level control tofunction properly. Checkdrawing on the followingpages to determine the prop-er clearance required onother units. The float armmust swing freely withoutbinding. Use an acceptablethread compound dope wheninstalling the unit to the ves-sel to avoid thread galling.

For direct acting, (increasedoutput on the level increase)connect the supply gas toport "A", port "B" is exhaust.Supply gas must be filteredand not exceed specified limitof cartridge. Air is the recom-mended supply; however, anydry filtered gas may be used.Connect the out port,stamped "C", to the unit to becontrolled.

For indirect acting,(decreased output on level

increase) connect supply gasto the port "B". Port "A" isexhaust.

If a larger volumetric outputor faster speed of response isrequired, a pilot or boosterrelay should be installed inthe output line. The exhaustmay be piped away if desired.The manual override featureallows the unit to be testedwhile installed in a vessel. Tooperate the manual override,push down on the knob. Theoutput pressure should go tothe full supply pressure or to0 depending on whether thecontrol is connected in thedirect acting or indirect actingmode. The knob is springloaded and will return to thenormal position whenreleased.

Product Description:Used as a level control or ahigh or low level alarm. Thepneumatic output can beused to operate valves,sound alarms or perform anyother desired pneumatic func-tion. Any liquid or liquid or liq-uid interface can be moni-tored.

Operation:As the float is moved by vary-ing liquid height, a magnet inthe float arm is moved. Themagnet operates the 282'sthree-way two-position switchcartridge thru a magneticlinkage only. The output issnap-acting from 0 psi to fullsupply pressure or converselyon float movement.The arm containing the mag-net also acts as a counter-weight for the float.As a result, the float is smalland can operate in liquidswith specific gravity of 0.5 orhigher. This small float per-mits economical installationwhere other types of controlswould be cost prohibitive.Direct acting (increase in liq-uid level increases output) orindirect acting (increase inliquid level decreases output)is selected simply by chang-ing the supply pressure andexhaust connections.The SC Series is designedto eliminate the threadedcontrol connection in mount-ing with the use of a boltedring per API recommendedpractice RP14E. The externalcage allows for the installa-tion of the control at any ele-vation.



Float and Float Arm:The float arm must swing freely.Solvent cleaning of the float armchamber may be required incontrol is used in viscous ordirty liquids. If the float is col-lapsed or perforated, unscrewthe float from the float arm andreplace with a new float. Use ananaerobic adhesive to securethe float to the float arm. Toremove the float arm assemblydrive out the pivot pin using a1/8" punch. Be careful not tolose the float arm spacers andbe sure they are in place whenreinstalling the arm.

Pneumatic Switch Cartridge:To service the switch cartridge,disconnect the supply and ventpiping from control Loosen andremove both port adapters.Remove the switch cartridgefrom the body. Do not attempt todisassemble switch cartridge.The switch cartridge may besolvent cleaned only. Reinstallthe switch cartridge using newo-rings. Reinstall both portadapters. Tighten securely.Reinstall the piping. If the switchcartridge does not functionproperly after cleaning, replacethe switch cartridge.

282SCThis rig bolt configuration eliminates the 2”pipe threads on control mount and meets API-RP14E Specifications.

282 FlangedFlanged units are available in 3” and largerand all pressure ratings.

282-13 InterfacedThe interface unit will operate in fluids withspecific gravity differential as low as 0.1.

282 Manual OverridePushing the external causes the float arm tomove, operating the pneumatic cartridge bymanual means.

282 Annulus PlugThe Annulus Plug prevents foreign materialfrom getting into the cavity. Available on allmodels.
