INTRODUCING THESITUATION
Room 2 is a Year 3 - 4 class made up of 14students in a well resourced reasonably highdecile Yr 0 -8 school in rural Southland
The reason for implementing this actionresearch was because lower than desired
maths engagement and confidence in thestudents (and teacher) were bound to causeproblems further down the track

School Staff had identified Maths as an areaneeding PD and this was planned to beundertaken in 2009 with Averil Lee
Up to date activities for reinforcing mathsstrategies and knowledge in the classroomwere lacking
The school internet availability frequentlymet problems
The laptops available to children were oftenunable to access reliable and consistentinternet feeds

The availability of a data projector was anissue and that it was in the right place at theright time

Averil came and played many activities with us that wecould use meaningfully with the children
A nice young man came to fix our network system andput everything together again making the internetreliable and easy to access

INTERVENTION IN THE SITUATION
Once this rather obvious area for actionresearch improvement was highlighted itwas decided that several things could bedone
1 Sit down and cry
2 Sit down and drink
3 Actually do something to fix the loomingmess

Averil came and played many activities with us that wecould use meaningfully with the children
A nice young man came to fix our network system andput everything together again making the internetreliable and easy to access
That same nice young man come to fix our laptops andmake them as reliable as the classroom desktopcomputers
