    Nau mai, haere mai, welcome back to our returning families, and a big

    welcome to our new families!

    I hope you are all well and rested from your summer break, and that you

    actually got to enjoy the sun where ever you were for your holidays.

    We have had a very busy couple of days with all of our wonderful newenrolments. We have had 22 new students start with us this term, spread

    right through out the school. The staff are feeling very grateful that theBoard of Trustees have chosen to fund our extra teacher this year. Our little school is booming!

    Now I have a few dates and reminders that will help us all settle in to the new year.

    Important Dates:

    Meet The Teacher Evening - Wednesday 5th February, 5pm - 7pm

    Come down to the school and have a sausage sizzle on us! Meet you child's classroom teacher, have a look inthe rooms and meet the other parents of our school.

    Full School Powhiri at the Marae - Monday 10th February, 10am

    New students and whanau will be welcomed on to our marae - Rongomaraeroa O Nga Hau E Wha. Whetheryou are a brand new to our community or been here for years, all our welcome to our powhiri and morning

    tea. We would also really appreciate it if one of our new parents would be able to speak on behalf of our newstudents. Please let Marama know asap.

    Procedural reminders for students and families:

    No students are to be on the school grounds before 8.30am. Classrooms will not be open until then,and students will not be supervised before this time.

    Bikes, scooters, roller blades, skateboards, and skates: All children on any form of wheels at school

    must correctly wear a helmet at all times. When arriving or leaving school students must alight fromtheir bikes, scooters etc at the school gates, they are not to be riding their wheels around the school,

    before or after school. Students may ride their wheels at lunchtime, but only in designated areas bythe duty teacher and with their helmet correctly wore. If a student seen to be riding inappropriately orwith out their helmet, they will loose their lunchtime privilege.

    Absentees: It is very important that you (parents and caregivers, not elder brothers and sisters) contactthe school directly if your child will be away from school. We are legally required to ensure that yourchild is attending school, we are responsible for their health and safety during school time. If you donot contact us we must mark your child as truant. So please be proactive and contact us asap withany absentees. We understand that people do forget at times and we can correct an entry after the

    fact, but only if you contact us. We are also legally required to refer students to the truancy officers ifunexplained absences reach 20% (or the equivalent of one day per week).

    If you have any further questions, please speak directly to your child's classroom teacher.
