De Baak Europe “Leading Development”De Baak Europe is concerned with tradition and renewal within a body encompassing 27 European countries and with a population of over 400 million people. Today we experience the most unified Europe since the time of the first century Roman Empire. De Baak Europe is concerned with fostering the leadership that must serve as a guiding principle for this new nation state: renouncing sovereignty, embracing diversity, personal will in the service of the common wealth.

Europe think tankDe Baak has a longstanding tradition of investing in furthering the human side of enterprise. For more than 60 years de Baak has been involved in fostering leader-ship and entrepreneurship in domestic and international companies. Building on this we introduce de Baak Europe think tank. It is an initiative to research and participate in creating leadership for post-crises Europe.

It consists of a core group of 30 members, representing most European member states, a variety of specialisa-tions, with a joint commitment to change, moving towards dialogical, horizontal, responsible leadership rooted in personal development including psychological and spiritual integration.

The think tank is our response to the unprecedented times we all move in, signified by the collapse of financial institutions and markets and by the consequent re-evaluation of corporate governance. We have no certain knowledge of where we are headed. However, it is our firm belief that together we can understand and prepare for whatever the new leadership requirements may be. The think tank serves as a resource for its partners as well as for decision makers, civic and corporate, who embody the new leadership in Europe. It contributes in the form of publications, seminars, faculty, and continuous innovation of the field.

“THE WORLD NEEDS NEW IDEAS, NEW PRODUCTS, NEW KINDS OF ASSOCIATIONS AND INSTITUTIONS, NEW INITIATIVES, NEW ARTS AND NEW DESIGNS. BUT THESE NEW THINGS SELDOM COME FROM ESTABLISHED ORGANISATIONS. THEY COME FROM INDIVIDUALS. - THE NEW ALCHEMISTS”

CHARLES HANDY, IRISH AUTHOR/PHILOSOPHER

Europe Retreat When core competences, goals, and transparent values are called for, when transformational change is asked for: start with your self. Consider making room for reflection, taking distance from daily routines and regular life-style, learning techniques for how to detach from ambition and will: these directions do not lead away from life but, in fact, present the opportunity for retreating into life, towards natural intelligence and intuition. Attending to one’s inner being in a safe environment, alone but with guidance there is an opportunity for insights and the gaining of perspectives that cannot be obtained otherwise and that may prove incalculable as leadership assets. De Baak Europe Retreat offers retreats for a variety of organizations. The retreats are issue related and have practical implications for real life questions.

De Baak Europe Retreats are designed based on the individual delegate’s needs and the context, integrating appropriate activities, resources, and tools to craft a powerful experience of the true self in each and every delegate.

Delegate from the New Delhi retreat in 2009 reports:“Some say that the most important study in this whole life is the study of ourselves. I agree. I don’t think it is a luxury but a necessity. In my work as a psychologist, trainer, coach, I am confronted with all sorts of people with all sort of dilemmas. Sometimes just small things, but sometimes people have concerns on a level where there is no right or wrong answer anymore. They have to respond to their issues in a way which connects their real authentic self instead of ‘what they should do’ or ‘what seems appropriate to do’.To guide this process is a seriousresponsibility. I can only do this by asking myself questions in all openness and honesty. With old-fashioned humility… in search for beauty’.After preparation in the Netherlands I followed the three days Delhi retreat: concentrated, intense, aligned with what is going on in my life. I was guided through my questions and dilemmas and it took me deeper and further. It was a remarkable experience.

De Baak’s International ActivitiesIn addition to its activities in Europe, De Baak supports its partners throughout, China, India and the US.
