Arco recycle: producten dusdanig ontwikkelen dat ze aan het einde van de levensduur gemakkeli jk te scheiden zi jn in de verschil lende materialen waardoor de recyclebaarheid verbeterd wordt .

Arco duramas: een methode om het gebruik van het schaarse massieve hout in de wereld enigszins te beperken door het toepassen van tafelbladen waarbij de kern van een minder schaarse houtsoort is gemaakt dan de daarop aan de boven- en onderzi jde verl i jmde massief houten laag.

Arco hanteert voor al le producten een "ecologisch" beleid op het gebied van grondstof fen, waarbij de toepassing van FSC gecertif iceerde materialen wordt toegepast indien verkri jgbaar.

Per product (m.u.v. de stoelen) hebben we door middel van een logo aangegeven welke van de bovenstaande Arco duurzaamheids begrippen van toepassing zi jn. Het bovengenoemde commitment gaan we aan onder het overkoepelende Arco duurzaamheidslabel. Arco flatpack: waar mogeli jk het f latpack verpakkings-principe toepassen, d.w.z. de verpakking zo plat mogeli jk houden zodat transport niet onnodig belast wordt door (teveel) volume.

Arco lightweight: in de producten zoveel mogeli jk gebruik maken van l ichtgewicht materialen, zodat het gewicht niet onnodig hoog is. Hierdoor wordt zowel in transport als ook de handling door mensen rekening gehouden met een zo doelmatig mogeli jk gebruik van energiebronnen.

Arco recycle : products are developed so that they can be easily separated into dif ferent materials at the end of their l i fecycle and the capacity for recycling is increased.

Arco duramas: a method for l imiting the use of scarce solid wood by manufacturing table tops using a core of less rare wood to which an outer layer of solid wood is glued to the top and bottom.

Arco also applies an ecological policy when it comes to the choice of raw materials where FSC certif ied materials are used when and if avai lable.

Each product (excl . chairs) bears a logo indicating which of the above Arco sustainabil ity concepts have been applied. We are meeting the above commitment under the al l-encom-passing Arco sustainabil ity label. A label that commits us to producing honest , sustainable furniture in order to assure the consumer and al low the product to be ful ly enjoyed for many years to come.

One of Arco’s cornerstones is sustainabil ity. Nowadays, this word has become a trendy term but a long-term vision in terms of sustainabil ity (in the broadest sense of the word) was part of our company’s culture right from the very start . We are a family company that is over 100 years old and regard retaining production in the Netherlands as a vital aspect of our company. It is in our nature to consider rela-tionships with employees, suppliers and customers and also product development from the perspective of sustainabil ity.

We apply the following, important sustainable principles:

Einer der Pfei ler, auf denen Arco stützt , ist Nachhaltigkeit . Dieses Wort scheint heutzutage ein Modewort zu sein, aber eine langfristige Nachhaltigkeitsvision im breitesten Sinne ist schon seit jeher Teil unserer Unternehmenskultur. Wir sind ein über 100 Jahre altes Famil ienunternehmen, das es als von essenziel ler Bedeutung betrachtet , die Fertigung in den Niederlanden zu halten. Es l iegt in unserer Art , die Beziehung mit unseren Mitarbeitern, Lieferanten und Kunden sowie unsere Produktentwicklung unter dem Blickpunkt der Nachhaltigkeit zu betrachten.

Folgendes betrachten wir als wichtige Nachhaltigkeitsmaßnahmen:

Arco flatpack: Wo möglich wird beim Verpacken die Flat-pack-Methode angewendet , das heißt , dass die Verpackung so f lach wie möglich gehalten wird, um unnötige Transport-belastung durch (zu viel) Volumen zu vermeiden.

Arco lightweight: Für die Produkte werden so viel wie möglich leichte Material ien verwendet , sodass das Gewicht nicht unnötig hoch ist . Dadurch wird eine möglichst zweckmäßige Nutzung von Energiequellen in den Prozess miteinbezogen, sowohl in Bezug auf den Transport als auch auf die Handhabung durch Menschen.

Arco recycle: Produkte werden so entwickelt , dass sie am Ende ihrer Gebrauchsdauer einfach in die verschiedenen Material ien zerlegt werden können, wodurch die Recycle-fähigkeit verbessert wird.

Arco duramas: Eine Methode zur Verminderung der Verwendung von knappem Massivholz, wobei Tischplatten mit einer auf der Ober- und Unterseite verleimten massiven Holzschicht und einem Kern aus einer weniger seltenen Holzart verwendet werden.

Arco verwendet für al le Produkte eine "ökologische" Polit ik auf dem Gebiet von Rohstof fen wobei die Verwendung von FSC-zertif iz ierten Material ien verwendet werden, fal ls vorhanden.

Für jedes Produkt (außer Stühle) haben wir mittels eines Logos angegeben, welche der oben aufgeführten Nachhaltig-keitsmaßnahmen gelten. De tafel is l ichtgewicht , geheel demontabel en opgebouwd uit duurzame materialen.‘FAT’ is a real no-nonsense table. With its sizeable dimensions and sturdy appearance, it is the direct opposite of the super-thin slim table, also designed by Bertjan Pot. The table is lightweight, can be completely dismantled and is made of sustainable materials.‘Fat’ besticht durch sachlich-funktionales Design. Mit seinen geräumigen Abmessungen und robuster Optik ist er das Ge-genstück zu dem extrem schlanken Modell ‘Slim’, ebenfalls ein Entwurf von Bertjan Pot . Zonder innovatie is minimalisme een doodlopend pad".An innovative sandwich construction of steel and honeycomb forms the basis of the 'impossible looking' Slim Table. Bertjan Pot: "Some will see the Slim Table as imitation or not real, but it is in fact very sincere and pure. All materials are used in the most honest way: metal for a strong construction and wood for tactility and an attractive exterior. tafel nog steeds “onmogelijk” li jkt .Slim+ is the larger version of the super-thin Slim table. This table has a maximum length of no less than 360 cm and its proportions have been adjusted in such a way that the table still appears “impossible”. Slim+ ist die größere Version des ultraschlanken Slim Tisches. Dieser Tisch hat eine maximale Länge von stolzen 360 cm. Englishman Jonathan Prestwich is not some unknown newcomer to the corridors of Arco. For years, well before setting

up his own design studio in 2004, Prestwich had been working together with Burkhard Vogtherr, one of the renowned

household names in Winterswijk. He was Vogtherr ’s right-hand man and had already worked with him in that capacity

on the development of a variety of Arco products.

When Jonathan and Jorre van Ast spoke for the f irst t ime about direct collaboration, it was nevertheless a new step.

Both of them represent the next generation in Arco’s product development . That f irst discussion took place in a London

pub, a not entirely a chance occurrence for two friends and a most appropriate one too.

Arco had a clear assignment . They required an af fordable, stackable, comfortable chair that would suit the hotel and

catering trade as much as it would a private home environment .

Jonathan: “A new design project of ten starts of f l ike that . The cl ient has a specif ic wish and first of al l you discuss

it and get thinking about it in detai l . I always try to f ind ways of creating things that are just that l it t le bit better, more

practical and functional than everything that ’s already around. Pushing the l imits a l it t le farther each time. My starting

point in this is the way we l ive: how people behave and precisely what the essence is of our contemporary l i festyle.

New situations are constantly arising – just think about the prevalent use al l the time, wherever you go, of laptops and

palmtops – and as a designer you have to be in a posit ion to design new items that are relevant , that dovetai l perfectly

with current l i festyles.”

“Coming up with things that appeal to a certain type of use; it ’s that that ’s interesting and which makes for a

meaningful point of departure for new designs. I want to make the sort of new furniture that makes people say ‘Wow!

I could really use something l ike that ; I need this!’”

As soon became clear, the new Arco design was to be an attractive wooden chair. “That is the thing to do today; it ’s

what people want .” The chair must be l ight in weight and, above al l else, very comfortable. The f inal result – Prestwich’s

design for the Café Chair – was honoured by the German Design Council with the 2011 Interior Innovation Award

immediately af ter the chair ’s introduction. The backrest made from a 3D knitted fabric provides most welcome comfort ,

restricts its weight and is responsible for a characteristic al lure. Moreover, placing your elbows on the curved armrests

makes it ideal when using your PC.

Over the years, Prestwich has special ised in designing furniture, seating in particular. “It went that way more or

less by accident , and the more of ten you keep doing something, the better you get at it each time. You’re constantly

involved with it and get more and better ideas.” But designing chairs is also exacting and very demanding. “There

are many possibi l it ies, but you can also make a lot of mistakes. There needs to be a good balance between a large

number of factors: aesthetics, comfort , ergonomics, cost , manufacturing options, materials. . . . This results in interesting

challenges – I prefer not to call them problems or compromises.” Thus the knitted back support for the Café Chair was

a def t solution for a construction that had to be as l ightweight as it was strong. “Ult imately, heavyweight people have

to be able to sit on the chair as well , and people aren’t al l that gentle with furniture in the hotel and catering business.”

One of the greatest challenges that Prestwich encounters in his profession is that of the price level for the end

result : how to create a design that wil l be of commercial interest . “Natural ly you can create amazing furniture, but it

also needs to have the right price label attached. And that ’s quite a problem nowadays amid global competit ion. You

don’t want to make concessions to quality.” He feels that it is vital ly important for Europe to retain its professional

expertise and manufacturing craf tsmanship, because: “if we let go of that , it ’ l l be vir tually impossible to rebuild.”

Prestwich cites natural phenomena as his major source of inspiration. “Simply look, say, at the make-up of a f lower. It

opens in sunlight , attracts bees to its pisti l and stamen, only to close again at night for protection. It works perfectly!

So right , so beautiful and sophisticated. We’re sti l l unable to copy it .

In reality, we’re al l of us sti l l in the Stone Age working with primitive techniques. Perhaps one day we’l l be able to

grow genetical ly modif ied trees that bear the perfect chairs as fruit .”

Deze stoel behoudt nagenoeg dezelfde kuip maar dan geplaatst in een rond buisframe hetgeen zorgt voor een zachtere uitstraling. Deze optie is zowel mogelijk voor de frame als voor de frame xl. Tevens is frame-R verkrijgbaar in een “adjustable” versie, waardoor het zitcomfort van de stoel nog verder vergroot wordt . Bij deze optie kunnen de zitting en rug vrijeli jk naar voren en naar achteren bewogen worden (niet beschikbaar voor frame-R xl)Frame, the successful classic within the arco collection, has a new variant: frame-R. This chair has practically the same seat but is fitted in a round tubular frame, giving it a slightly softer appearance. This option is possible for both frame and frame xl. frame-R is also available in an “adjustable” version, which makes the chair even more comfortable to sit in. With this option, the seat and back can be freely moved backwards and forwards (not available for frame-R xl.Frame, der erfolgreiche Klassiker innerhalb der ARCO Kollektion, hat eine neue Variante: Frame-R. Der Frame Round hat fast die gleiche Schale, ist aber in einem runden Röhrenrahmen aufgehängt welche eine sanftere Ausstrahlung bietet . Diese Ausführung gibt es für den Frame und auch für den Frame XL. Ebenfalls ist der Frame-R erhaltbar in einer “adjustable” Version, die den Sitzkomfort des Stuhls noch weiter erhöht . Bei dieser Option können die Sitzfläche und Rückenlehne frei nach vorne und hinten bewegt werden (nicht erhältl ich für Frame-R XL.)

The chair is characterized by a metal frame with a fine, rectangular lineament which gives the chair a pleasant light optic. The frame is made of mat or shining chrome or epoxy lacquer. Frame is a chair which can be used not only in residential spaces but also in business surroundings. Im Jahr 2000, entwarf Burkhard Vogtherr den Stuhl Frame für Arco. Zehn Jahre später ist dieser Stuhl noch immer sehr erfolgreich. Der Stuhl zeichnet sich durch sein starres Metallgestell mit einer sehr komfortabelen Sit zschale aus. Der Stuhl hat durch seine feine, rechteckige Linienführung eine sehr leichte Ausstrahlung. Der Rahmen wird in matt– oder hochglanzverchromt ausgeführt oder in Epoxylack. Dieser Stuhl ist nicht nur in einer Privatsphäre einsetzbar, sondern ebenfal ls bestens für den Objektbereich geeignet .

SLOW DOWN Dick Spierenburg 2011‘Slow Down’ is een strak gestof feerde bank die met heldere li jnen en naadloos de overgang van een slanke arm naar een brede rugleuning maakt . Het zitcomfort is informeel en ontspannen, mede dank zij de comfortabele losse kussens. ‘Slow Down’ is de woonversie van het inmiddels zeer succesvolle modulaire

zitprogramma Side by Side, dat met name in de projectmarkt toegepast wordt .’Slow Down’ is a couch with streamlined upholstery whose clear lines make a seamless transition from a slender arm to a broad back. Characteristic are the distinctive soft and inviting rounded corners. The seating comfort is informal and relaxed, also thanks to the comfortable loose cushions.
