DECEMBER: BUSY BUT ENJOYABLEDecember 2:A Community Fair was held with l ive performances and 18 game booths just belowTuen Mun Christian Church's chapel. A couple thousand people attended. Bothth e church and the Res iden ts ' Assoc ia tion in that building operated booths. The residents' booth won f i r s t prize. The church's booth i nt roduced the stepsto sa lv ation and Christian l i terature was passed out to some 400 people whopat roni zed the booth.December 15 and 20:On both days, Joyce provided the wedding cakes , r ecep ti on supp l ies and ourr ing bea re rs for the weddings of two Christian couples we have knownoys as

    f o r someDecember 23:

    t ime .

Gary baptized Andrew Tsanq> a high school senior, and a nea rby chu rch used thechurch's bapt is t ry , too.December 24:A new attendance record was se t when about 75 people a t t ended the church's

Christmas program. About 10 people were standing and there was vir tual ly noroom le f t , which means that i f the church hopes to grow, special programs thatmight have that large a crowd wil l have to be given twice. And l as t week, 29people attended Kid's Club. A year ago, 29 would have been the total attendance over the church's th re e re gu la r s er vic es . I t is my prayer t h a t thechurch will soon reach a total attendance of 80 over th e three regular services , and average tha t number by the end of the year.

December 26:A Church Barbecue: I t had been almost a year s ince the church had had a goodchance to share together, so several families took a boat to a campsite on oneof the big islands.

People often erroneously believe that a more px'osperous life is synonymous with acloser walk with God. But that 's not always true as recently released statistics aboutHong Kong indicate. People here are much better off than they were ten years ago. However, widespread petty theft and robbery have only been replaced by more"upper-class" crimes l ike rapidly increasing immorality and ARMED robbery. Moreover, the increase in church membership has not even kept pace with thebirthrate. That is to say. if Christians would just lead their own children to Christ, church membership should be inc reas ing faster than it is.Such slow growth is ver^/ alarming because information on how churches grow hasmultiplied over the past ten years. Moreover, church membership seems to be growingmuch faster under the antireligious government of China than in Hong Kong's free

    society.TUEN MUN CHRISTIAN CHURCH

At this year's annual meeting, besides elect ing board members, the chu rch electedfo ur ju nio r deacons for the first time. Two years ago the church had five Caucasian and five Chinese members. Now ithas three Caucasian members and thirteen Chinese (160% more Chinese than then).

    At t endance i s abou t 100% above t h e n .The church owns about 225% more property and its facilities are about 44% larger

now than two years ago .

The church' s present self-support of about $640 per month is about 390% largerthan two years ago. Finally, two years ago the church provided four weekly group meetings or Bibleclasses. Although th e English worship service has just been suspended , there are nowEIGHT weekly meetings or Bible group s in th e c hu rc h.

COMPUTER LANDImprovement in the church's ability to support itself was helped most by a recentagreement between the church and a computer training school to rent our chapel fromMondays through Fridays, During the week they set up twenty computer terminals inth e chapel and teach about 200 elementary children how to operate computers. Please

pray that this a rr angemen t c an continue smoothly.SPRINGBOARD TO THAILAND
