I hear that 85 percent of the things we worry about never happen. So why spend all that negative energy on something that probably won't occur? We need to learn to live life on purpose. We are to stop and... And enjoy life as God has given it to us. When we begin to see and experience the minute, we will begin to see the grandeur of God and His vastness. As we focus on the present we will spend less time worrying about tomorrow. Become as a little child and enjoy now... Father God, Block out yesterday, and don't let me try to glimpse tomorrow. I want to make a present out of today. I truly want to observe all that You have given me now. May today be the greatest day of my life because I've enjoyed every moment in it. Amen. Deep Creek Friends Meeting August, 2013

Recently, I had the pleasure to travel with Friends from our Yearly Meeting to the

beautiful and mysterious country of Jamaica. We served alongside Jamaican Young Friends teaching Vacation Bible School in several cities, towns, and villages across Jamaica. Our site hosted over 200 children each day and it was amazing to watch these little ones sing and dance before the Lord. I caught myself joining in with them not

caring how silly or out of rhythm I might be.

As I have worshipped during Bible School with children over the years, in different churches and denominations, various towns, states, and countries, one thing stands out very vividly, their ability to enjoy the moment. I have become so interested in how they can take the "now" and make it a present. Almost two decades of children’s ministry behind me, I often catch myself trying to forget what happened yesterday and what might happen tomorrow and just experience the fullness of today.

In order to capture the essence of the present, we need to give less attention to worries, mistakes, what's gone wrong, general concerns, things to get done, the past, the future, the undone. I’ve learned to tell myself, "Today...I will only think about today. No regrets for the past or future maybes." When you say this all your focus is on the now...you can smile, laugh, pray, think, and enjoy what that moment brings.

I caught myself several times on my adventure in Jamaica soaking in the morning breeze, taking advantage of being unplugged to be just in that moment; listening to the sounds of the city waking up...roosters crowing...a lady sweeping her porch...a man on a squeaky bicycle...and finding Jesus there. I seized the moment one afternoon while rafting down a local river. We stopped for lunch and took a dip in the cool clear water. There was a rock on the other side of the river that seemed

a perfect spot to climb up and jump carelessly from the top. Suddenly, I was overwhelmed with the urgency to jump off that rock…be in that moment…live and trust God...and let go!

Often our anxieties are about situations we have no control over.

Amen.

NNNeeewww SSSccchhhoooooolll YYYeeeaaarrr………NNNeeewww BBBiiibbbllleee SSStttuuudddyyy The new school year is just around the corner!! We have enjoyed summer break with our family and friends but it is time to get back to bag lunches, book bags, and new classes. We’ve also been on summer break here at Deep Creek for our Wednesday night Bible Studies. Now it is time to get back to digging into God’s Word, seeking Him in our everyday lives, and serving Him as part of His body.

On Wednesday, August 21st we will begin our new study by Craig Groeschel , CHRISTIAN ATHEIST: Believing in God but Living as if He doesn’t Exist. This study will challenge us to live lives that reflect who we are as followers of Christ.

Every Wednesday night meet in the church fellowship hall, enjoy a meal, fellowship, and grow together in God’s Word. If you have questions about this study please contact Georgianne. Sign-up sheet for this study is located outside the church office.

Optional Sunday School Class – September and October

You’re invited to join a 6-week Sunday School course starting on September 8th entitled “Sacred Marriage: What if God Designed Marriage to Make Us Holy More Than to Make Us Happy?”

Both couples and singles are invited to meet Sundays at 10:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall; Participants will return to their regular Sunday School classes after the course concludes on October 13th.

“In this six-session small group Bible study, Sacred Marriage, writer and speaker Gary Thomas invites you to see how God can use marriage as a discipline and a motivation to reflect more of the character of Jesus. Your marriage is much more than a union between you and your spouse. It is a spiritual discipline ideally suited to help you know God more fully and intimately. Sacred Marriage shifts the focus from marital enrichment to spiritual enrichment in ways that can help you love your mate more. Whether it is delightful or difficult, your marriage can become a doorway to a closer walk with God.”

Please contact Cathy Shore to reserve a study guide for the course at [email protected] or 336-469-2761.

Food for the Hungry

"I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for Me." Matthew 25:40

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your continued support of Yadkin Christian Ministries in its effort to minister to those in need.

There is a definite need at this time for canned vegetables of all kinds. The ministry is having to

purchase these in order to fill bags for the clients.

Also, there is a great need for money. Last week alone the ministry spent $8,000.00 and only took in $2,385.00. Will you please ask the Lord what he would have you to do to help with this ministry? Thank you so much. Phyllis Barnes

Don’t Quit by Charles R. Swindoll

Ingnace Jan Paderewski, the famous composer-pianist, was scheduled to perform at a great concert hall in America. It was an evening to remember – black tuxedos and long evening dresses, a high- society extravaganza. Present in the audience that evening was a mother with her fidgety nine-year-old son. Weary of waiting, he squirmed constantly in his seat. His mother was in hopes that her son would be encouraged to practice the piano if he could just hear the immortal Paderewski at the keyboard. So – against his wishes -- he had come. As she turned to talk with friends, her son could stay seated no longer. He slipped away from her side, strangely drawn to the ebony concert grand Steinway and its leather tufted stool on the huge stage flooded with blinding lights. Without much notice from the sophisticated audience, the boy sat down at the stool, staring wide eyed at the black and white keys. He placed his small, trembling fingers in the right location and began to play “chopsticks”. The roar of the crowd was hushed as hundreds of frowning faces pointed in his direction. Irritated and embarrassed, they began to shout: “Get that boy away from there!” “Who’d bring a kid that young in here?” “Where’s his mother?” “Somebody stop Him!” Backstage, the master overheard the sounds out front and quickly put together in his mind what was happening. Hurriedly, he grabbed his coat and rushed toward the stage. Without one word of announcement he stooped over behind the boy, reached around both sides, and began to improvise a countermelody to harmonize with and enhance “chopsticks”. As the two of them played together, Paderewski kept whispering in the boy’s ear: “Keep going. Don’t quit. Keep on playing. . .don’t stop . . .don’t quit.” And so it is with us. We hammer away on our project, which seems about as significant as “chopsticks” in a concert hall. And about the time we are ready to give up along comes the Master, who leans over and whispers: Now Keep going; don’t quit. Keep on. . .Don’t stop; don’t quit, as He improvises on our behalf, providing just the right touch at just the right moment.

Dancing With God When I meditated on the word Guidance,

I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word. I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing.

When two people try to lead, nothing feels right. The movement doesn't flow with the music,

and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky. When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead,

both bodies begin to flow with the music. One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back

or by pressing Lightly in one direction or another. It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully.

The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person

and gentle guidance and skill from the other. My eyes drew back to the word Guidance.

When I saw "G": I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i". "God", "u" and "i" dance."

God, you, and I dance. As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust

that I would get guidance about my life. Once again, I became willing to let God lead.

My prayer for you today is that God's blessings and mercies be upon you on this day and everyday.

May you abide in God as God abides in you. Dance together with God, trusting God to lead

and to guide you through each season of your life.

Let's continue to pray for one another. And I Hope You Dance Contributed by Shannon Shore

Camp Creek Praises!!

Throughout the past two months during “Camp Creek“ 2013 the children have been meeting every other Tuesday morning for crafts, games, prayer, lessons, and lunch. During these gatherings for worship we have learned how to be followers of Jesus, learning that true followers of Jesus: belong to God, encourage others, do beautiful deeds, know Jesus is with them, love everyone, worship him and know that Jesus is alive!

On July twenty third, during the final meeting of the summer’s Camp Creek, the kids prepared, decorated and served Deep Creek’s own SAM Group (Single Again Ministry) a lunch of spaghetti, salad, desserts and drinks. Each lady was escorted to a seat and served punch by the kids and the kids shared some points they have learned about being Christ followers. After lunch each lady was given a carnation and a care package made by the children.

The children have learned that a true follower of Jesus has a servant heart. Serving these ladies was a way to serve Christ, serve Deep Creek and serve others. This was a beautiful picture of what Christ Love looks like.

Thanks to the parents who helped in making this possible by assisting in food, or volunteering their time, and bringing your kids. Thank you to all the ladies for supporting this ministry and the children by allowing them to serve you lunch and thanks for the tips!

A huge thanks to all the kids for their politeness and hard work and for being a beautiful servant for Christ. I love you all!! In Christ, Angie

July is coming to an end and August is quickly approaching. Summer has been a lot of fun and while the return to school looms, there is still a lot of fun to be had at Deep Creek. The DOGS and Youth have enjoyed time at the softball games this summer. The softball team has been a revival of times past at Deep Creek. This has been a great event for our church. Our team has been successful, but more importantly, it has reached all generations at Deep Creek from its players to its fans (even though we are a little competitive. HA!). Our hope is that others have been pointed to Jesus through our actions. The Youth enjoyed a lock-in in July. We went to the ball game and of course to eat and returned to the church for a night of fellowship and fun. The DOGS group enjoyed their regular outings and time in fellowship together. My spirit is constantly renewed after spending time with the kids at Deep Creek. They are such a fun and loving group of kids with their eyes pointed on Jesus. They are eager to learn and spend time in fellowship together. They have been a true blessing in my life. My hope is that they continue to receive the encouragement and support from those around them as they grow in their relationship with Christ. They truly are encouraging to everyone in our meeting! I am always humbled by the things that God does at Deep Creek. May we recognize his goodness and give him all glory and praise!! Blessings, Jared
