Dear Councilmember Huizar:

Established in 1924, Central City Association (eCA) is L.A.'s premier businessadvocacy association whose 450 members employ over 300,000 people throughoutthe Los Angeles region. On behalf of CCA, I am writing to offer our support for theproposed pedestrian bridge across Temple Street in connection with the Da VinciApartments project.

Over the last 15 years, CCA has championed the Downtown Renaissance boththrough its advocacy efforts, and by attracting new residential "development projectsto the Downtown area, In part through our efforts, the Downtown population hasgrown to over 50,000 residents as housing units replace empty lots and dilapidatedbuildings. Despite this unprecedented growth, occupancy rates consistently exceed97%, demonstrating that a substantial demand for housing remains.

CCA supports the proposed pedestrian bridge at the West Temple Street location dueto pervasive public safety concerns, The Da Vinci project is located near a well-known and growing homeless encampment, which the City and private propertyowners have little ability to address given current legal battles, A pedestrian bridgewill allow residents and staff to safely travel between the Da Vinci buildings, day ornight. The bridge will facilitate easy access to onsite amenities while addressing thepublic safety concerns related to the homeless encampment.
