CHAPTER 11.1The concept and history of "Selfie"

A" selfie " is, strictly speaking, any self – portrait taken with a camera: held in the

outstretched arms, by remote control, or in a mirror. Naturally, such pictures were

created from the dawn of photography as an art genre, and no special term wasn't

used for them.

The word "selfie" comes from the English selfie (himself) and means a photo of

himself in the mirror or just at arm's length

Despite the fact that the word "selfie", which means a picture of himself, entered into mass circulation only last year, such photos were earlier. It is believed that the first such frame was made in 1839. The author of the first in the history of mankind "selfie" is considered one of the pioneers of photography American Robert Cornelius. He took a picture of himself at home in Philadelphia.

However, Russia has something to answer. In the collection of photographs of the Romanov Royal family was found a picture of the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna, the youngest daughter of Nicholas II. In her note to her father, attached to the picture, she wrote: "I took this photo, looking at myself in the mirror. It wasn't easy as my hands were shaking."

Back in the early 2000s, "selfie" was quite common in the social network MySpace. Since 2006, when Facebook's popularity has been growing, using selfies has been considered a sign of bad taste, a relic of the past.

According to one version, the term "selfie" was coined by the famous photographer Jim Krause in the mid-2000s. However, opponents of this theory point to the use of this word to refer to a self-portrait with a compact camera back in 2002: allegedly, it originated on a certain Australian Internet forum. By the way, the latest version supports the Oxford English dictionary, which considers the word selfie Australian in origin.

Since 2010, with the improvement of the technical capabilities of mobile phones and mobile applications photo portrait revives and gains millions of fans. Yes, the term is recognized as official English linguistics, so it can no longer be considered part of the youth slang. Be that as it may, a few years ago, this simple word is still very few people knew, and "selfie" is not isolated in a separate genre of photography-especially the genre of superpopular.

In 2012, "selfie" was included in the list of the most fashionable words of the year. And by 2013, the popularity of this word has increased so much that it was included in the electronic Oxford dictionary (authoritative edition of the English language). And "selfie", thanks to its popularity, in November 2013 appeared before the public as the word of the year.

1.2 Types of "Selfie"

There are many types of selfie. I made the Top-13 most popular types of selfie that are found in "Instagram", "Twitter" or "Facebook" almost every self-respecting celebrity.

1. Liftlook – a self portrait wich done with a mirror located in the Elevator. Alena Vodonaeva and Anna Sedokova like to photograph their reflection in the Elevator.

But the author of the most famous liftlook is the Prime Minister of the Russian. Federation Dmitry Medvedev.

2.Duckface – - another trend in the image of a loved one. Most often girls resort to it: making self-portraits, they artificially protrude their lips forward. In the end, "bow lips" resemble nothing like a duck bill. "Glamorous ladies" think it's sexy. However, Internet users perceive such selfies very negatively. Stars are also often pout, "like ducks". For Example, Riana.

3.Group Panoramic Selfie, - panoramic group selfie, trend 2015. The Chinese have already invented a smartphone that allows you to accommodate more people in the photo, landscape and interior. But the vast majority of users still have to use the capabilities of their hands or a selfie stick. Nikita Dzhigurda -"god grufi". His

page in "Instagram" is full of images of himself against the background of a raging crowd of fans.

4. Relfie, or Relationship selfie, self – portrait with a beloved person. Studies show that this type of selfie often infuriates users. However, the photo of Angelina Jolie with Brad Pit, rather, refers to a successful relfi. How can that be unnerving?

5. Belfie, or Butt-selfie, and in Russian just pop-selfie. Taking pictures of your fifth point people are trying to show it in full glory.

6. Melfie, or Man Selfie. Melfi is what men can say to women in Belfi. Here you will not see a gorgeous view from behind. Just admiring yourself.

Scientists believe that Melfi is one of the manifestations of narcissism. Hashtags of the shocking singer, stylist and hairdresser Sergey Zverev and the poem of the

unpredictable singer, actor and Director Nikita Dzhigurda give rise to some suspicions...

7. Bifie, or Bikini Selfie, is a selfie in a bikini, most often on the beach. The undoubted leader in the number of selfies in bikini is Kim Kardashian. She has so

many of them that their users she managed to nasality eyes. Therefore, as an example, I give our Russian Nyusha, who also likes to pose in a swimsuit on the

camera of her smartphone.

8. Felfie, or Farmer Selfie. Although the term implies photos of farmers with their animals, it is often perceived as a selfie with their favorite Pets (not every celebrity

can boast of farming).

9. Sufies or Shoes Selfie, a photo of your feet in your favorite shoes on a background of asphalt, sea, sky, mountains, and more, that the author's self

imagination. Such a cute Sufis showed his fans Riana:

10. "Just woke up," or Wake up Selfie. During the creation of such a selfie, the main thing is to pretend that you really just woke up. Head on pillow, body under

the covers, hair a little disheveled.

11. Saglie, or Uglies Selfie, in other words-ugly selfie. Fun for those who like to make faces, and for those nasty "alcosafe" and other mi-mi-lichnosti. It so

happened that to describe this kind of selfie from the stars Merlin Manson came the most.

12. Extreme selfie-selfie, for those who are not afraid of height, frost and speed. Most often, in order to make a self-portrait on the spire of a skyscraper or on a

cliff, resort to using a selfie stick, or a monopod.

13. Photos of delicious food, or Foodporn. A bit of " pornography "on the page of Sasha gray in" Instagram " I still found.

1.3Positive and negative aspects of "Selfie"

Positive sides, or how to use "selfie" for good:

Not everything is so gloomy, because in the right hands and with the right approach "Selfie" can be a wonderful tool to work on yourself. They can help to understand themselves, open up new qualities and spaces for creativity, and also allow a person to be multi-faceted.

Not necessarily "selfie" sells a particular person. It may well sell the brand, show new fashion trends or have a certain artistic value, if it is not just people to satisfy their vanity, but real creators.

"Selfie" celebrities allow their fans to feel closer to the idols. Stars share a piece of their lives, write answers and create the impression of relative intimacy with their fans. Good or bad for the fans — it's hard for me to judge, but for the stars it's definitely good. Also, "Selfie" can affect the modern ideals of beauty and show how beautiful can be naturalness, not these first corrected makeup, and then photoshop images (for example, photos before and after makeup).

And finally, "Selfie" can act as a personal chronicler. They show your history of change and development, remind you of the past and can help you avoid past mistakes. If translated into normal language, it is thought in the style of "yeah, red told me explicitly not to face...", "What a terrible haircut!"Mommy, who is this?!""Thus, it is necessary to remember that after the second glass of beer, the phone needs to be hidden!"and so on and so forth.

Sports "selfie" in the style of "before and after" - it is very motivating!

Negative side:

And yet "selfie" is an obsession with appearance and a manifestation of narcissism. People feel like the main characters of the reality show "behind the glass" with high self-esteem. It's like looking at yourself in the mirror all day. Studies have shown that over-passion for "selfie" can have a negative impact on your relationships within the family (or with a loved one), parenting, working environment, and cause explosions of violence.

Another study showed that the excessive passion for laying out self-portraits (ie" selfie") in the Network leads to the fact that in reality a person becomes less sympathetic to others, the degree of warmth in real relationships is also reduced and people move away from each other.
