A man and his son were going through the forest hills. Suddenly, the boy fell down on the trail and screamed with a pain, “Aah!” Surprisingly, he heard the same voice from the mountain, “Aah!” Curiously, the boy shouted, “Who is this?” But the voice replied

the same, “Who is this?” He got angry, and shouted again, “You are stupid!” And again the voice replied the same, “You are stupid!”

Annoyed by this, the boy asked his father, “Father, What is going on? Who is this?” The Father replied, “Son, Pay attention”. The father shouted, “You are very nice”. And the voice responded the same, “You are very nice!” The father again shouted, “Thank you”. And the voice again responded the same, “Thank you!” The son was very surprised but he still could not understand what was happening.

The father explained, “Son, people call it resonance, but this is the truth of the life. The life is a reflection of your actions. What you will give to others, you will receive the same in return.”

Farmer’s SonTHE STORY OF THE

How do you look at life? And the people around you?Are you or them on a wild ride of highs and lows?Let me share the story of the Farmer’s Son (one of the free excerpts from ‘Life is a Game!’) with you to share an other perspective.

One day in late summer, an old farmer was working in his field with his old sick horse. The farmer felt compassion for the horse and desired to lift its burden. So he let his horse loose to go to the mountains and live out the rest of its life.

Soon after, neighbors from the nearby village visited, offering their condolences, and said, “What a shame. Now your only horse is gone. How unfortunate you are! You must be very sad. How will you live, work the land, and prosper?” The farmer replied, “Who knows? We shall see.”

Two days later the old horse came back, rejuvenated after meandering

on the mountainsides while eating the wild grasses. He came back with twelve younger, healthier horses that followed the old horse into the corral.

Word got out in the village of the old farmer’s good fortune and it wasn’t long before people stopped by to congratulate the farmer on his good luck. “How fortunate you are!” they exclaimed. You must be very happy!” Again, the farmer said, “Who knows? We shall see.”

At daybreak on the next morning, the farmer’s only son set off to attempt to train the new wild horses, but was thrown to the ground and broke his leg. One by one villagers arrived during the day to bemoan the farmer’s latest misfortune. “Oh, what a tragedy! Your son won’t be able to help you farm with a broken leg. Several days later a war broke out. The Emperor’s men arrived in the village demanding that the young men come with them to be conscripted into the Emperor’s army. As it

happened, the

farmer’s son was deemed unfit to serve the Emperor because of his broken leg. “What very good fortune you have!!” the villagers exclaimed as their own young sons were marched away to battle. “You must be very happy.” “Who knows? We shall see,” replied the old farmer as he headed off to work his field alone.

As time went on, the broken leg healed, but the son was left with a slight limp. Again the neighbors came to pay their condolences. “Oh what bad luck,” they said. “Too bad for you!” But the old farmer simply replied, “Who knows? We shall see.” As it turned out, the other young village boys all died in the war, and the old farmer and his son were the only able bodied men capable of working the village lands. The old farmer became wealthy and was very generous to the villagers. They said, “Oh how fortunate we are. You must be very happy.” To this, the old farmer replied, “Who knows? We shall see!”

My son, you say you want to be a farmer,And there are many things you do not understand.

Farming is a mode of life and living,And not a job of getting cash in hand.

And not lose faith when dust is rolling high;If you can buy when other folks are selling,

And sell when other folks want to buy;If you can win and not waste time in boasting

And bragging of the things you’ve done’If you can keep your farm work up to season

And still have time to have a little fun’If you can plan a program that will give you

Feed for your stock in any kind of year;If you can break a colt but not his spirit,

So that he will obey through love and not through fear;If you can stay out all night in a blizzard

To keep your stock from dying in the snow;As day after day back and forth you go;

If you can keep your mind at peace while ploughingIf you can meet your banker without whining

Whenever a note comes due that you cannot pay;If you can catch a vision of the future

Through the clouds that overshadow you today;If you can remember every time you need them

Where last you left the hammer, the saw, the screw;If you can work with badly-worn machinery

And not make the atmosphere around you blue;If you can keep your books and tele which project

Of all you have is paying you the best;If you can take some advice from some old-timer

And yet with modern methods keep abreast;If you can raise a good share of your living;

If you can work in filth and not be filthy;If you can be a friend to all about you,

And leave an honored life when you are dead;If you can do all this and keep your manly charm,

My son, you have the makings of a farmer –And you’re the man who’s wanted on the farm
