    Introduction

CAP Crew SAR Training Syl labus & Trainin g Record

This book is used to record volunteer CAP Crew Members progression through the CNZ CAP Crew SAR Training Syllabus.

    PURPOSE

The syllabus sets out the minimum standards expected of a CAP Crew Member. Units may increase the standard expected of crew

members according to local requirements by nominating more stringent assessments. Unit Training Officers are to complete the

practical aspects and upgrade the SAR Database (or advise the Regional Office accordingly who will update the SAR Database). It

should also be noted where increased standards have been put into effect.

    RESOURCES

The syllabus makes use of a range of resources to train Crew Members including the CNZ SAR Crew Modules, Coastguard Boating

Education and external agencies (e.g. First Aid Courses). Guidelines are also provided in the syllabus for internal training.

    AIR TIME

CAP Crew Members are encouraged to have their air time logged on the pages provided at the back of this book.

TIME FRAMESThere are no maximum or minimum time frames recommended for Crew Members to successfully complete the syllabus. It is

anticipated, however, that a reasonable period might be 3-9 months at any level; the Crew Members attitude and application and the

Units training progamme, will ultimately determine how quickly a Crew Member progresses through the levels.

    OTHER TRAINING

Crew Members should include documentation of any other training that supports their qualification as a CAP Crew Member. A page for

recording this information appears at the back of this book.
