ÆQ: What do you think aboutAurangabad Maha Marathon?ÆA: The Maha Marathoninitiative taken by Lokmat isreally commendable. In today’sbusy and competitive life, people, mostly youths, have adifferent lifestyle, like not goingto bed early and waking uplate in the morning, eating fastfood, etc. Today, youths in their30s have complaints of bloodpressure, many people in their40s have sugar and other healthproblems. All this due to not paying

attentionto theirhealth.This

Marathon will really create awarenessof fitness among youth.

ÆQ: What are thebenefits of Marathon?ÆA: In today’s life, oneis after wealth. Nodoubt one should earnmoney, but not forspending it later onhealth. If your health isgood, you can havemoney. However,

money cannot buy health. Creatingawareness among youths on theimportance of health, is the need ofthe hour. One should be motivated torun and Maha Marathon will surelyencourage thousands of youngstersin maintaining their health. Physical

health affects mental health also.ÆQ: What is your advice to theparticipants?ÆA: Whatever you do, you shouldparticipate in Lokmat MahaMarathon. Competition iseverywhere, but participants shouldhave healthy competition with goodspirit and enthusiasm. Practice beforeparticipation is necessary.Participating in a marathon should bejoyous, rewarding and a safeexperience. However, preparing for amarathon requires a lot of time, discipline and commitment. So sparesome time for that also.——DDrr PPrraanneesshh BBhhiimmrraaoo MMuurrnnaall,,Principal, Govt College of Engg.

AAuurraannggaabbaadd,, DDeecc 22:: Thecommissionerate of policehas imposed ban on the theentry of heavy motor vehi-cles (HMVs) in the city lim-its between 6 am and 12midnight and private travelbuses from 7 am to 11 pm.

However, it is observedthat the order issued bykhaki administration ishardly followed by abovevehicles as they keep onplying in the city limitseven in daytime withoutany fear. The registrationof two-wheelers and four-wheelers from the city andother parts of district is

around 12 lakh. The num-ber of accidents and fataldeaths has also gone upwith the rise in the numberof vehicles. To check acci-dents or casualty, the CPhad imposed the ban.Surprisingly, trucks ladenwith sand, rubbles orcement bags and otherbuilding materials are seenmoving at breakneck speedon the city roads.

The vehicles enter thecity premises fromCambridge School Chowk,Harsul T-Point, BeedBypass, Shivajinagar,Godavari T-Point etc.

Ironically, these vehiclesmove before the eyes oftraffic police. At the sametime, private travel busesalso create nuisance to traf-fic. They have been bannedas the drivers drive thevehicles rashly. They havebeen told to pass throughring road and park theirbuses near parking lot inthe ShahnoormiyanDargah vicinity. Despitethis they are seen movingin the city area in daytime.Traffic police had takenpenal action against theprivate buses, but there isno impact on the drivers.

AAuurraannggaabbaadd,, DDeecc 22:: Thecases of leopards enteringresidential areas in searchof food and water haveincreased. To overcome theproblem, the department offorests (DoF) placed cagesto catch them. However,Conservator of forests(wildlife) PV Jagat clarifiedthat not a single leopardhas been captured so far.

In Gangapur, Paithan,Vaijapur, Sillod andKannad tehsils, some leop-ards were entering in resi-dential areas. As the flockof goats and other cattle isavailable easily in the vil-lages, the chances of leop-ards attacking them aremore. Therefore, thedepartment of forestsplaced cages in these areas, but no leopard was caughtin cages in the last fewdays, Jagat clarified.Similar was the experienceof the department inUndangaon, Fardapur,

Banoti, etc, he said. Two years ago, some leop-

ards were sighted in Waluj,Tisgaon, Kanchanwadi,Cantonment area, etc. Atthat time, the DoF assumedthat it could be a Hyena.Still, the DoF put goats andhens to trap the animal. But the leopard saw thefarmers and rural citizensfrom far away andrefrained from comingnear the cages. But marksof their footsteps wereobserved in these areas.

During the rabi season, itis time to water wheat andother grains. But the farm-ers are avoiding to go to thefields lonely because offear of leopard attacks.

The Gautala sanctuaryhas a record of 14 leopards. They do not come out dueto availability of sufficientfood and water in the sanc-tuary itself. But the leop-ards at other areas are yetto be counted.
