Assalamualaikum dan salam sejahtera..
Masih belum terlambat rasanya untuk Tok Itam ucapkan Salam Aidilfitri kepada semua. Kita raya kan sebulan.
Teringat Tok Itam semasa Tok Itam belajar di luar negara dulu. Tok Itam mohon daripada penyelia Tok Itam untuk bercuti be-berapa minggu untuk pulang berhari raya di Malaysia. Pulang untuk bersama Mak dan Abah menyambut Hari Raya Aidil Fitri. Pulang untuk menjenguk kedua orang tua serta saudara mara. Maklumlah masa tu dah hampir dua tahun meninggalkan kam-pung halaman. Penyelia Tok Itam merenung muka Tok Itam. Agak lama juga dia
merenung muka Tok Itam hinggakan Tok Itam rasa dia nak marah aku ni. Lalu dia bersuara: ‘I don’t understand you. Why spent so much just to have holiday in your own country when you can spend the money to have holiday in Europe or even USA’. Tok Itam rasa hanya orang Malaysia sahaja yang memahami perasaan balik kampung. Walau jauh beribu batu, pulang beraya ke kampung adalah sesuatu yang memang dinanti-nantikan. Moga roh Ramadhan berkekalan dalam jiwa kita dan semoga amalan kita diterima Allah SWT. Maaf zahir dan batin.

SERIES 5 (Last Series) : MATHEMATICS IN 4IR
The 4th IR is bringing radical impact in the worldwide career
where automation, artificial intelligence and robots are expected
to replace the manpower in many industries. Meanwhile, this
global trend is creating new career opportunities to the universi-
ty graduates where the graduates need to have new mindsets
and implement their knowledge to meet the challenges of revo-
lution in industries. There are some skills such as creativity in
problem solving, multidisciplinary teamwork, developing artifi-
cial intelligence algorithm are not still able to automated. It is im-
portant for the graduates to transmit their knowledge in the con-
tribution of their future career.
Mathematics, a required subject from lower to higher education
levels are always known as fundamental lesson in schools and
universities. However, its roles in the professional occupation is
seldom seen compared to other disciplines namely engineering
and computer science. The use of Mathematics should be em-
phasized to raise the significance of Mathematics in different
fields, especially in this 4th IR era. The contribution of Mathe-
matics can be highlighted in some popular math's games such as
Chess and Go using intelligence computational, Sudoko puzzle
implementing heuristic searching and Origami, art of folding pa-
per, that connected to geometry, topology, combinatorics or
graph theory (Garrido et al, 2010). Since many decades ago,
Mathematics is always a basic acquaintance to solve different
types of problems in artificial intelligence (AI). For instances, as a
self learning algorithm, artificial neural network (ANN) is known
as thinking machine that mimics the behavior of complex human
brain in the field of machine learning. The ANN involves with
computational Mathematics using logistics function namely sig-
moid function. Furthermore, another popular algorithm, fuzzy
sets which are applied in many industries also using the app-
roach of Discrete Mathematics in classification problems. Also,
concepts in Statistics also very useful in many areas and it is ne-
ver been eradicate in real-life application. For instances, the fa-
mous statistical methods - Bayesian Network and Markov Net-
work in machine-learned AI algorithm have given significant con-
tribution in diverse area, especially in medical diagnosis, eco-
nomics as well as manufacturing industries.
A meaningful message - “There has never been a better time to
be a mathematician” had been stated in a business article
"Math Will Rock Your World”, published by a national security
agency executive in 2006. We believe that this is a great encou-
ragement giving to mathematician for their contribution in the
current and future industrial revolution. Therefore, Mathe-
matics graduates in higher education should be confidence with
their theoretical knowledge and character in the growth of 4th
IR in Malaysian.
