DROUGHT RELIEF NEWS
Our
efforts to alleviatesome of the sufferingbroughton
by the
infamous southern
African drought have finally
come
to a close.
Yourresponse
to
our financial appeal
was
highly encouraging,
andmany
lives were saved. Saved lives
can mean saved
souls We are receiving positive reports
fwm
a majority of
the eight
villages
that
received food
assistance
- reports of hungry people accept ing Chris t
because of
th e loving care that has been
shown by Chris

Four

received is
included
(verbatim):
Dear Pastor,
Re: Chr i s t i an ssis tance
Greetings in the name of
our
Ixtrd Jesus Christ, from the membersof the Kabile church; wehope
pray that the Lord
Jesus
Christ is with
you
in your everyday services for him.
The members ofthechurchdoappreciateoveryourkind services offered tous
particularly
in this cr
year of hunger. Yourassistarice in food relief had saved alot of livesfrom death - may the almighty
bless you and keep you
safe
from
the
evil hand.
It
was like a dream to receive
manna
from heaven in the wilderness where there was no sign
of
foo
water. Freemaize seedgiven tous was exactly like the wayIsraelites receivedfood in the desertunexpec

Exodus 16:15.
Through this
kind
of offer in the ten churchesyou run in
our
area put up byyou alone; people
very
little
faith have agreed that you were sent by God - Matthew 26:19-20.
Yours

Night falls
quickly
in
Africa. As
the
sun
goes
down
one
sees
people hurrying home
ward.
It
is
not prudent to
be out
after dark
. . . especially if one
is on foot.
They rush from
their work places hoping to squeeze in a few
errands
before
reaching home; hastytrips are
made
to
the markets
and
butcheries. People
are seen carrying live
chickens
and clearplas
tic bags
filled
with onions,
tomatoes,
cabbages
and rape.
Vendors along the roadside are
selling
groundnuts
and cooked maize.
One
buys what one
needs and
hurries on ,
anx
iously
watching the disappearing sun.
They
are very aware
of
that time
of the day. Night
is coming
As Christians
we too
need t obe aware of th e coming night. Our job is to
tell
others the Good
that
the Saviovm, Jesus Chri st has
come.
Time is growing
short, and many
still
have not heard.
Zambian brothers and sisters
know what it
means to be
physically
prepared
fo r
the
coming
night. W
leam
a
lesson from them.
As
we
read
our
newspapers
and watch
our televisions,
are
we
aware
tha
night is coming? Let's be ready
and
help
others
to be
ready
too We must
work
th e works of Him
sent
Me, as
long as it is day; night is coming, when no man can work.
