    WHAT'S MY BASIC PERSONALITY?

    The five-factor model of personality - oftenreferred to as the Big Five - has animpressive body of research supporting thatfive basic personality dimensions underliehuman behavior. These five dimensions aredefined as follows:

    Extraversion. Someone who is sociable,talkative, and assertive. High scores indicatean extravert; low scores indicate an introvert.

    Agreeableness. Someone who is good-natured, cooperative, and trusting. This is a

    measure of your propensity to defer to others.High scores indicate you value harmony; lowscores indicate you prefer having your say orway on issues.

    Conscientiousness. Someone who isresponsible, dependable, persistent, andachievement oriented. High scores indicatethat you pursue fewer goals in a purposefulway; low scores indicate that you're moreeasily distracted, pursue many goals, and aremore hedonistic.

    Emotional stability. Someone who is calm,enthusiastic, and secure. High scores

    indicate positive emotional stability; lowscores indicate negative emotional stability.Openness to experience. Someone who isimaginative, artistically sensitive, andintellectual. High scores indicate a widerange of interests and a fascination withnovelty and innovation; low scores indicateyou're more conventional and find comfort inthe familiar.
