BRIEF SUMMARY

I am a self-driven, motivated person that belief anything in life is possible if you put your mind and will to it. As a

team player I do not wait for something to happen, I belief in making it happen. I started my career in 1990 at

Highveld Steel and Vanadium (Pty) (Ltd) as an Instrumentation apprentice and held the following positions within

I resigned from Vanchem Vanadium Products during February 2009 after 20 years of service with the same

Company, in order to pursue my own business Ventures.

During 2009 until 2013 I managed my own building and construction venture, which included the

acquiring of properties and re modelling of units in order to increase rental capacity.

During 2013 up until present I also full time managed my own Transport Company called Secure Movers

CC, which mainly focuses on household furniture removals and office relocations country wide.

Currently I am looking for an opportunity in the Engineering or Production field in order to retain and

increase my Plant Engineering and Production expertise.

1. SKILLS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

I. Matriculated in 1987 with University exemption.

o Started my working career in the South African National Defence Force during 1988 up until 1989.Completed

my 2 year term as a lieutenant in the School of Engineers ( Genieskool ).

II. Joined Highveld Steel and Vanadium in 1990 as an Instrumentation Apprentice.

o Received the Highveld Steel and Vanadium award for Outstanding Theoretical achievement in 1991.

o Completed my National Diploma in the Electro-technical field at the Witbank Technical College with a

minimum practical training experience of three years.

III. Qualified in 1993 as an Instrumentation Mechanician in the field of “Industrial Instrumentation and

Process Control”. Trade test was completed at Olifantsfontein (MEIATB).

o After qualifying I started out as a Mechanician at Iron Plant 1 and my experience includes working on

Rotating Kilns, VSD’s, Modicon Plc control, Gas Analyses and General field Instrumentation.

o Obtained my second National Diploma during the end of 1995 in the Mechanical Engineering Field with a

minimum of 3 practical training experiences.

IV. Achieved Instrumentation Technician status in 1996 and experience was obtained in Process

Instrumentation and Electrical automation.

VII. Got promoted to Plant Manager Oxides, FEV Smelter, Chemical Plant and Transport Division for

Vanchem during 2005.

o Full accountability and responsibility for 180 people and four business units running as independent financial

profit centres.

o Personnel Structures included, 3 Unit Managers, Four Unit Engineers, Five production Unit Superintendents,

12 Shift Foreman, 12 Mechanical Foreman, 30 Artisans and the rest of the team consisted off Team Members

and utility men.

Total Legal accountability and responsibility as 16.2 for four units regarding Volume , Yields , Yearly Budgets ,

Training , Legal Compliance , Environment Control and Compliance , Management Programs , Internal and

Maintenance and Production Cards, and all SHEQ related matters.

Responsible for the following Plant Related Activities…

o Polyvanadate ( V2O5) batch making facility including Reactors , conveyors and Pan Filters,

1. Filter press unit ( Larox Filter Press) , capable of drying Polyvanadate from 30 % to 10 %,

2. Drytech Flash Dryer unit, using Gascor Gas, back mixer, cyclones and bag house to dry the

Polyvanadate to 1 %.

3. Bulk Pneumatic Handling systems using transfer pots and compressed air ,

4. Ingersoll Rand 650 Cfm Compressor houses with air dryers,

o Hivox V203 Plant, incorporating two reactors using Ammonia gas to re oxidise the V205.

1. Rotating Reactors, support rollers, water cooled Redler Conveyors, transfer systems and bag

house operations.

2. Ammonium Sulphate wet Scrubbing Plant to covert the effluent gas from the bag house back to

Sulphuric Acid with a Sg of 1.5.

o Deamoniator Plant (Vanadium Pent Oxide) converting Polyvanadate to fused Vanadium Pentoxide

this product was mainly exported for the aircraft industry, turbine engine manufacturing.

1. Plant consisted off 4 reactors, Redler Conveyors, Pneumatic transfer systems, 6 electric heated

furnaces using globars, 2 large gas fired furnaces and a drumming station for export.

o Evaporation Section ( Mechanical Vaporation Recompression Plant, MVR) converting the Barren

Waste streams originating from the Polyvanadate plant which is high in Acid , Sodium Sulphate ,

water etc. back into re-usable Sodium Sulphate.

2. The units comprised of Heat Exchangers, Allis Chambers Compressors, and High Speed gearboxes

with vibration monitoring sensors, Cyclones, pusher centrifuges, Crystallizers and screw feeders.

o Boiler House, comprising of coal and gas fired Boilers. Alstom 8 ton per hour Boilers complete with

hot well, water treatment and Softeners.

3. Two coal fired Boiler was automated to Gascor gas and they were controlled via Scada.

o Chemical Plant Operation , consisted of various processes incorporating stainless steel steam heated

tanks , dosing pumps , Centrifuges , Smit Ovens , bag houses , Ammonia Scrubbing plant, gas fired

Boilers , Fully accredited 17001 Laboratory on site.

4. High quality Chemical Products was manufactured for the export market mainly into the USA, the

product included, Polymetavandate, V2o5, Sodiummetavanadate, Electrolite for the Vanadium

Battery and various products for pigmenting and ceramics.

o Ferrovanadium Smelter Plant (Fev Plant), this product was manufactured at Highveld Steel due to

power constraints at Vanchem. Vanadium Trioxide which is a powder is fused into Fev with the

adding of Al and Lime. The fused product is rock hard and is used in the Steel Industry for the

hardening of Steel and also in the manufacturing of Tools for the Industry.

VIII. The rest of the operations not directly under my control but of which I also have experience on

relating standby cover, Instrumentation and management supervision are as follow…

o Rotary Kiln Operations, complete with firing fan, Classifiers, tumbling mills, feed table operations,

waste gas fans, Cyclones, leach dam operations etc.

o Ball Mill operation, 100 ton per hour Fuller Vecor mills with; stockpile feed arrangement from a

wagon tippler, conveyors, nuclear density measurement, Soft starters, trommel screens, plastic

piping etc.

o De Watering plant comprising off, Header tanks, Cyclones, Primary and secondary magnetic

separations units, Belt filters, vacuum pumps and a Thickener pumping to a Slimes dam.

o Slimes Dams operations, Storm water dam operation, and Zero Effluent management.

During this period I also obtained my Management Development Programme Diploma at UNISA during the

beginning of 2007, our group also achieved the Best Group award for the year.

Project Management and Control

Since Vanchem is a Vanadium Producing Company the ground bearing conditions, exposure and atmospheric conditions needs to be designed and planned for using the best available technologies and material specifications available. The Ph ranges vary from acidic 2 to alkaline 13; ground conditions are exposed to Sulphuric Acid, Liquid Caustic, Soda Carbonate, Sodium Sulphate, Ammonium Sulphate and all the various elements of Vanadium in the form of Ammonium Polyvanadate , Vanadium Trioxide / Pentoxide , Potassium Meta-vanadate etc. Air conditions and air borne exposure includes the following gasses and particulate, Ammonia, SO2, Co2, NOx, TPM, TSM, and Velocity etc. Vanchem main Projects categories include the following sections …

X. Self-employed after 2009

From 2009 onwards to 2012 I mainly focused on buy properties and renovating the units into compartments in order to yield a greater passive income. This included the following…

Modifying building plans in conjunction with the municipal regulations. Employing a building team in order to build, plaster, tile and paint as per the

requirements of the plan, at the most cost effective manner. Rewiring of properties as per the SANS 1420 code for wireman’s license of South

Africa, this included new DB boxes, lights and plugs. Installation of generators at all sites, with quick change over switches. Construction of new carports and modifications to existing structures. Construction of inner walls, dry walls and wooden decks. Cement work, gulley’s and slabs. Plumbing, including showers, toilets and wash basins. Installation of new geysers, copper piping and finishes. Installation of pre-paid meters, geyser timers, lights and switches. Installations of wardrobes, kitchen cupboards and finishes. Plaster work, painting and scree ting of surfaces. NRHBC compliance.

From 2013 onwards up until present I have been involved in managing my privately owned

transport Company listed as Secure Movers CC, this company was in existence since 2000.

Secure movers CC mainly focuses on the transportation of furniture and goods within the border of South Africa.

Specialize in packaging, transport and storage of goods. Fleet management and fuel control. On time delivery and customer satisfaction. Recruitment and training of staff.
