In the past SNCB was not always open to the concept of Open Data or data sharing

“Een student informatica, Yeri Tiete, had eind 2008 het ingenieuze idee om een mobiel platform te ontwikkelen voor treinreizigers met een iPhone. Deze week kreeg hij het bericht van NMBS, dat net zelf een iPhone-applicatie heeft uitgebracht, onmiddellijk te stoppen met zijn platform.”

Availability of scheduled timetables (planned data)

• Format used is GTFS Standard (General Transit Feed Specifications)
• For free but requires the signature of a contract with SNCB
• Already 270 contract requests since 22/09/2015 (major players, startups, institutions, individuals)
• 24 contracts were signed• 246 awaiting reception from the third party
