Remarks“Hashim introduced me to the beautiful world of Arabic songs.”

- Manuel Antonio Montano

“I have always been entranced by music’s ability to transcend social and linguistic barriers. This fascination drove me to perform traditional Arabic folk songs in the middle of the most conservative campus in America: I wanted men in cowboy boots to hear morning chants written by Sayed Darwish over a century ago; I wanted to leave a fingerprint of Arabic culture.

I worked with a brilliant Egyptian Oud player to teach American student musicians how to play music that was not only foreign in language but in concept as well. Hours went into unlocking the puzzling Arabic Maqamat, but it was amazing to hear an Oud complemented by an upright bass with no guide – it was like two speaking to each other in different languages and understanding each other perfectly!

Our multinational ensemble, Arabic Sizzle, was invited to perform at several official university events and it felt incredible hearing Arabic sounds blare through the large speakers in Texas A&M University’s heart. I knew then that I had achieved my goal of adding diversity to the campus.” - Mohammad Hashim

“To bring a large group of busy students together is normally impossible without some sort of

incentive like free food. However, Hashim managed to turn an extraordinary tragedy into

a remarkable event through persistence and strength of will. His efforts were truly admirable,

and the whole project would not have been possible without him.”

- Kolin Loveless, Student Body President 2010“"There I was, standing center stage in front of a large crowd of university officials and student organization leaders. My voice cracked in nervousness as I gave a speech on selfless service and what it means to be an Aggie as an introduction to the Haiti Relief Concert my team and I had put together. It was a profound moment that humbled me, yet gave me hope to continue, for through the ups and downs of my college years, I was still able to do something that made a difference. It was through this and other experiences that I have come to discover my passion for business as a way of service.

Just as 2010 began, a devastating earthquake hit Haiti. I was struck by a yearning to help and began focusing on productive efforts to assist those in need. I did this through my two greatest passions in life-- music and business. I devised the idea of gathering student bands on Texas A&M University’s campus for a large concert, and donating all revenue for Haiti’s aid.

I immediately contacted the student body president to discuss a plan of action to raise money and awareness for the earthquake’s victims. As the event’s director, I forged a dynamic public relations and organizational team, negotiated and secured a proper venue on campus, aggressively petitioned local artists to participate, and oversaw the proper use of budgeted funds.

Together with my public relations team, we recruited more than one hundred student volunteers to assist in the concert’s efforts, and ultimately attracted hundreds of audience members to what turned out to be one of the most successful and memorable campus events of the year. My dedicated team and I were thrilled to raise over $6,400 for UNICEF’s fund for Haiti’s children. That experience taught me that the community and charitable benefits in business are far greater than any profit." - Mohammad Hashim

HAITIRELIEF

“Through my fascination with the influence of music on people, I learned to love picture. I was taken by the idea of capturing candid moments of bliss, the emotions you witness on peoples’ faces while dancing front row looking at the performer in awe.

I went to every concert I could attend and captured memories. Through social media, I was able to share my collection of students’ emotions and experiences captured, in time for them to relive over and over.

These pictures created a forum for different people to communicate. I bonded with one particular band and followed them around the great state of Texas, covering every show they had.

As a result of the time I spent with them, I was published by accident; one of my photos made the front page of Maroon Weekly, a community newspaper.

I worked for that paper as a freelance photographer after that and I acquired access to exclusive happenings around the city. Those relationships I built sparked by curiosity opened the door for me to influence others.” - Mohammad Hashim

“Hashim continuously brought creativity and professionalism to everything he was tasked to do.”

- Chris Shepperd, Owner/Publisher, Maroon Weekly“

MAROON WEEKLY

"The Haiti Relief Concert allowed me to better understand my career aspirations and goals—I wanted to share my musical passion with fellow students, and found that I could use business savvy and managerial acumen to achieve that very goal. Eager to diversify the music market in College Station, Texas, I began networking with touring indie artists and their management, persuading them to perform in College Station. Using money from my own pocket, I organized successful concerts with various artists. Later in 2010, I met a local real estate businessman interested in the live music industry. His resources, and great managerial skills combined with my deep understanding of the music market and the Texas A&M student body birthed the concert promotion company, Silver Platter Entertainment.

We started hosting concerts regularly in Bryan/College Station, Texas. However, I found that with new opportunities come new challenges and obligations. I was now forced to strictly manage large accounts and was responsible for yielding target results on big projects. At the same time, I also faced competition, as other, more established promotion companies would often target the artists sought after by Silver Platter Entertainment for concerts. We triumphed over this adversity by catering to niche markets- such as the indie rock and hip-hop scenes that had little presence in the region. This was a risky strategy, and ran counter to my competitors’ standard procedure of hosting the more conservative genres- but it worked. By hosting new, undiscovered artists and catering to eclectic, rather than established, music tastes, Silver Platter Entertainment successfully sold out dozens of shows, and even expanded to larger Texas cities like Houston, Austin, Dallas and San Antonio." - Mohammad Hashim

“I can say, with the utmost confidence,

that Hashim almost singlehandedly

changed the live music scene to

one of the most upbeat and varied

college music scenes in Texas.”

COVERFEST

"This success sparked a desire to continue on the path of sharing my love for music with peers. Thus, I engineered a unique event for students: Coverfest. I noticed the affinity students had for cover songs – people love singing out loud to their favorite songs, and not everyone is into the new and eccentric tunes of unknown bands. I thus decided to host a mini festival that consisted of strictly cover songs. Each band I selected had to choose well known artists and cover their popular catalogs. The event was a frenzy of different genres – reggae, rock and roll, acoustic soul, country, hip hop, and

electronica. Moreover, it was inspiring to see all of the student body represented that night: Greek students, cadets, artsy hipsters, athletes, and even international students. The event turned out to be a great success with the school newspaper giving it a raving review. However, that night represented so much more, as I felt that, through music, I had genuinely brought the school together." - Mohammad Hashim

“An interesting aspect of Cov-erfest was the strong sense of community that was present among audience members and bands alike. A common bond of music allowed for strangers to connect and forge new relationships. There was not a feeling that anyone had to pretend to be someone that they were not.”

What they had to say..."Hashim is a brilliant young man filled with a million beams of potential which radiate through his energy, felt by everyone within a five-mile radius."

“With today’s music industry being such an extremely brutal environment, you have to be cautious of the individuals you associate with. I admit, before working with Hashim I was hesitant of whether or not it would be a beneficial partnership, but I quickly realized that he’s exactly what the industry lacks: A hard-working and trust-worthy individual that delivers a product that consumers absolutely look forward to week in and week out.”

“While I wish Hashim only the best and understand his desire to continue his education, I am truly sorry to see him go. It will be a difficult task filling the void he leaves in my team.”

“Hashim was always a pleasure to work with. He would do anything he could to make sure both his clients (bands) and his customers (fans) walked away happy. His passion for music and hard work helped him become

one of the most respected and well-known promoters in College Station.”

“There are a few visionaries who have the follow-through to achieve their mission. Hashim has been one of the few. In my experience working alongside him in the music promotion business, I have been able to witness

this first-hand.”

“Hashim is a music lover that puts his hard work where his heart is. He’s consistently passionate about projects, and puts his all into each and every endeavor. When he knows a subject, he has an impressive understanding

of it. When he knows nothing of a subject, he researches until he’s as acquainted with what’s in front of him as he is with the back of his hand. I wish him all the best in creating his tomorrow.”

“Hashim’s passion not only for his own aspirations but his appreciation of hard work rendered, is a partnership that is unparalleled to most.”

“Hashim brings an energetic passion to everything he does. Hashim has an amazing natural talent for organizing events while making it look easy.”
