- Hand over is a project that seeks to provide sustainable, affordable and durable
houses for slum areas in Egypt (http://www.handoverproject.com/ )
- (Hand Over is a sub-division from Ezbet project It focuses on the housing issues and how to replace the existing houses in Abu-Qarn district with sustainable, affordable and durable houses by empowering architecture and civil engineering students/graduates, along with the local residents and teaching them about the sustainable techniques of construction and jointly, they will design and build sustainable houses for slum areas. Hand Over will widen the benefits for Abu-Qarn residents and will serve the main vision of Ezbet project. Ezbet Project is a comprehensive programme that includes different projects and sub-projects to serve the urban and community development in the informal settlement of Ezbet Abu-Qarn on an inclusive scale. The programme has been developed in the last two years under the German-Egyptian partnership between SI- Städtebau Institut- Lehrstuhl Prof. Dr. Helmut Bott (Urban Planning and Design Institute), Stuttgart University, the NGO “Alashanek Ya Balady for Sustainable Development” "AYB-SD", and the Urban Planning and Design Department (UPDD), Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Cairo. It started as and is still a youth-driven project that follows innovative participatory techniques that promote for sustainable community developmental model through academia (students, experts and university staff) as well as more engagement and involvement from the local residents with all its generations. Hand Over is also supported by Pinnacle Construction Projects (PCP) an Egyptian Construction company that provides technical and financial help for the project.)
