‘Euthanasie en menselijke kwetsbaarheid’

Euthanasie is een thema dat actueel blijft in de publieke ruimte. In het parlement worden momenteel een aantal wetsvoorstellen besproken die de wettelijke mogelijkheid van euthanasie willen openen voor minderjarigen en voor personen met dementie. Een Metaforum-werkgroep van de KU Leuven, met vertegenwoordigers van verschillende wetenschappelijke disciplines binnen en buiten de medische professie, heeft zich over deze problematiek gebogen. Ook de vragen in welke mate euthanasie voor personen met ernstige psychiatrische problemen toegankelijk moet zijn en wat de plaats is van palliatieve sedatie worden in deze Metaforum-visietest besproken. Inschrijven kan voor 15 november via de website. Deelname is gratis. Accreditering voor artsen is aangevraagd in de categorie economie en ethiek.

Euthanasia remains a topical theme within public debate. Parliament is currently looking at several bills that would open a legal pathway to euthanasia for minors and persons with dementia. A KU Leuven Metaforum working group with representatives from a variety of academic disciplines - and not limited to the medical profession - has thoroughly explored this issue. The Metaforum position paper also discusses the extent to which euthanasia should be made available to persons with serious psychiatric problems, together with issues related to palliative sedation. The symposium will be held in Dutch only. Please register online before 15 November.
