THE LATEST IN CHEMISTRY FROM VAN NOSTRAND
(Formerly Scott's Standard Methods of Chemical Analysis)
Throughout its various editions, this work has been a source of reliable analytical information for general use in the chemical laboratory. Volume I covers each element alphabetically with the exception of certain logical groupings including not only the physical properties, detection, and estimation but also the chief titrimetric gravimetric and colorimetric photometric methods of determining whenever possible. Presented at particular length are aluminum, magnesium, titanium and phosphorus as these elements are becoming increasingly more important. No other work provides such explicit information in such compact, usable form. 1371 pages, single vol. prob. $25.00
DICTIONARY OF COMMERCIAL CHEMICALS By Foster Dee Snell and Cornelia T. Snell
A handy, well organized reference on all chemicals of interest to industry providing formulas, general descriptions, methods of manufacture, infor
mation on common ... impurities or con
taminants, commercial grades, and uses. Written as non-technically as possible for the use of manufacturers and others connected with the chemical industry, it provides as well a unique source of information for the chemist. 673 pages

Stainless Steel Standard Weights
The National Bureau of Standards has developed a stainless steel for standard weights. It has the advantage of being corrosion-resistant, nonmagnetic, and with a density of 8.4 g/cm.8 It overcomes the problem of tarnishing in brass which results in weight changes. The problem of attaining the desired density was overcome by use of an alloy of nickel, 32.4%; chromium, 16.2%; tungsten, 9.9%'; manganese, 1.7%; silicon, 1.55%; and carbon, 0.09%». It has a density of 8.42 g/cm.3 and a magnetic permeability of 1.008. A steel with a density of 8.0 g/cm.3 has also been developed. The 8.0 density has been proposed as an international standard.
New ISA Journal ISA Transactions, a new quarterly
journal of the Instrument Society of America, will be printed and distributed by Plenum Press.
The journal will contain papers devoted exclusively to the literature of instrumentation—measurement, data handling, computation, automatic control, and systems engineering.
All manuscripts recommended for publication are evaluated and reviewed by one of the appropriate 28 technical and industrial divisions of ISA.
The editorial staff is headed by Loren E. Bollinger, Ohio State Unh'ersity.
The subscription rates for each annual volume (4 issues) is $15.00 domestic, $20.00 foreign, and $10.00 to ISA members. Subscriptions may be sent to Plenum Press, 227 W. 17th St., New York 11, Ν. Υ.
Industry Items American Hospital Supply Corp.,
Evanston, 111., has opened its fifteenth regional sales and distribution center at 14848 N. E. 36th St., Bellevue, Washington, near Seattle. It is the third center opened this year, following closely the completion of similar installations in Detroit, Mich., and Charlotte, N. C.
Ames Laboratories, Inc., has moved its operations for the manufacture of organic research chemicals to 200 Rock Lane, Milford, Conn.
Atomic Film Badge Service, Inc., 11-20 46th Ed., Long Island City, N. Y., is providing a gamma, beta, x-ray, and neutron density film badge service.
Barber-Colman Co., Rockford, 111., has expanded its gas chromatographic services to the metal working industry by adding a new Furnace Atmosphere Division to its Industrial Instruments Division.
Beckman Instruments, Inc., has been commissioned by the Jet Propulsion Laboratories of the California Institute of Technology to develop an engineering prototype of a miniaturized gas chromatograph to help solve some of the mysteries of the moon.
The Bendix Corp. has contracted to acquire the business and assets of Greenbrier Instruments, Inc., through a stock exchange. Greenbrier Instruments, located at Ronceverte, W. Va., manufactures process instrumentation, particularly chromatographic analyzers. Greenbrier will operate as a Bendix subsidiary.
Cenco Instruments Corp., Chicago, 111., has acquired the Surgical Instrument Co. of New York and its subsidiary, W&S Surgical Instrument Corp., Bridgeport, Conn. The transaction involved a stock exchange. This marks Ccnco's third move in the past year into the hospital and surgical supply field.
Chemical Manufacturers, Inc., Caldwell, N. J., has developed a fleet of mobile units to bring precision laboratory testing facilities to any area of the country. The mobile units are equipped in accordance with customer's specifications. The units feature environmental control of temperature, humidity, and dust conditions.
Consolidated Electrodynamics Corp., Pasadena, Calif., a subsidiary of Bell & Howell Co., has acquired certain assets of General Kinetics Corp., En-glewood, N. J., and its affiliate company, DeVar Systems, Inc., of Glen-brook, Conn. CEC will form a new operating unit which will be called the DeVar-Kinetics Division and will locate the division in Connecticut. A suitable facility is being sought. This acquisition will broaden CEC's position in the industrial control field.
